You know what's crazy? I've been trying to write this short-story this whole week, when it only used to take me two days to write a short-story, and I realized that I need to do it all differently. Also I really, really need to get back to writing stories! But now I'm scared it will take me a whole week like this simple short-story! Ugh, help Johanna, I have the illness, Writer's Block, it will kill all my creativity and I think it's progressing! XD lol But yeah, that's what's going on with my writing. How about you? Why can't you write? Do you have the illness, too!?

Ahhh, the dreaded writer's block. :P It depends what you mean by writer's block, though. Do you have no ideas? (view spoiler)[ Go outside, write down what you see and hear. Read the newspaper and write from the POV of a person in an article. Google writing prompts. Find a random sentence in a book and make a story of it. Anything that will inspire you. There are ideas everywhere. (hide spoiler)] Do you just not feel like writing? (view spoiler)[ Honestly, the only way to get through that is to write. Just write. The secret to getting ahead is getting started. - Mark Twain (hide spoiler)] Are you stuck on a scene? (view spoiler)[ Step back and think about what's happening that seems to be hitting the wrong chord. Sometimes you'll need to rearrange certain aspects, change lines, or motives, or characters, and sometimes you'll need to cut the whole thing out. Or consider skipping past it onto another scene. (hide spoiler)] Brainstorming is a good tool, too. Put on a timer, sit down with a Microsoft word file and just write anything that comes to your head.

I'm not sure what you mean about the timing thing. Why does it matter how long it takes you? If you're writing, you're writing - if you want to write, write. There's no limit to how long you can take on something - Tolkien took 12 years to write The Lord of the Rings, and years before that to create all the backstory and mythology. My mum told me something once that stuck with me - it doesn't matter if you take an hour on just one little sentence: if, at the end of that hour, that sentence is perfect, then it was worth it.

Also, don't stress about it. Again, if you want to write, write. There's no law saying you have to write. If you really love writing, really want to write, then you will. Okay, it still takes a lot of self-discipline, and forcing the words out when you don't feel like it, but if it's more of a hassle than an enjoyment, then maybe you're not writing about the right thing. What's really close to your heart? Write about that.

Lastly, don't keep telling yourself you have writer's block. It's partly a mental thing - the more you tell yourself you have writer's block, the more your brain goes, "Oh, okay, I won't write, then." Because essentially saying "I have writer's block," is saying, "I can't write anything," and if you can't write anything, why try? There's always a way to get around writer's block, but there's nothing that kills creativity like giving up before you've started.


Ah, well, that, yes. I'm just lazy. I can write, I even want to write, but I procrastinate. Which is why sometimes I don't think I should have the right to call myself a writer. And I'm in need of some brainstorming, because I don't know what's going to happen next in my stories.
