Michael Linn | 11288 comments William, Mike Linn here.I`m new here, but I have a library of over 500 baseball books.Do you have anything specific in mind, a book about something or somebody. They all have pitching of course, but I have biography`s on lots of pitchers, Koufax, Walter Johnson, Cy Young, etc. Why don`t you go on like Amazon and make a list and I can tell you if inside it is what you may be looking for.

Zinnbeck Try "The celebrant : a novel" by Eric Rolfe Greenberg. It is a fiction book about Christy Mathewson and a baseball classic.

message 5: by Mike (new)

Mike (mike9) | 6455 comments Try Cup of Coffee. It's about 18 different pitchers who had very short careers.

message 6: by Mike (new)

Mike Reuther | 124 comments Read Pat Jordan's "The False Spring." Not only is it a great book, but it really gets into the mind of a young pitcher who struggled mightily to harness his talents.

message 7: by Zinnbeck (new)

Zinnbeck Others include "Kings of the hill" kind a YA book.

"The head game : baseball seen from the pitcher's mound" by Roger Kahn

"High heat : the secret history of the fastball and the improbable search for the fastest pitcher of all time"

Zinnbeck Mike do you have a book list somewhere? I would be interested to see how much of of our collections match up. My collection has a lot of biographies, and a strong focus New York in the 1950s. My list can be found at librarything under the same name.

Mike (mike9) | 6455 comments Not sure which Mike your asking but I've got 500 baseball books that I own listed on here. I've read them all and I still have more to list. Take a look at what I have. You might find something interesting. Anything I rated 3 is a good read. A 4 is considered a must read and a 5 means you must own a copy of this. Let me know what you think.

message 10: by Mike (new)

Mike (mike9) | 6455 comments By the way I probably have over 100 that I haven't read yet.

message 11: by Zinnbeck (new)

Zinnbeck Mike I am still going through your list of books I scanned about the first two hundred. I noticed a few of the Pete Golenbock team histories those are awesome. I have the Cubs, Dodgers, Mets, Red Sox, and Cardinals/Browns. Also saw a few Sabr publications like Uncle Robbie, you can almost never go wrong with that stuff. What I didn't see and it might be there is not a lot of fiction and nothing by Marc Okkonen. Over good collection so far, I will try to take look at the rest soon.

Here is a link to my colleciton. http://www.librarything.com/catalog/Z...
I don't rate many of my books but I catalog the heck of them.

Mike (mike9) | 6455 comments I only add what I've read, so I have about 100 to go. I don't know if you've ever read anything by Ronnie Joyner and Dave Bozman , they write biographies on older lesser known players like Gus Zernial and Don Gutteridge. Really good stuff. They don't have Isbn numbers so I'm adding them manually. I think McFarland publishing has a lot of good ones too.

Mike (mike9) | 6455 comments Wow! I just went through your list and I'm shocked that I have some that you don't ,

Mike (mike9) | 6455 comments If you haven't finished looking at my list, I've added another 25 I found.

Thanks Lisa...placed my order yesterday.

Wanted to post a comment here as I have just read a GREAT fictional book on a young pitcher...But the thread was started by the author of that book! So no spoilers until I post my review later today.

Michael Linn | 11288 comments In a previous conversation about books, there was a mention of the book "THE TEAMMATES', and I mentioned that it had been filmed much like Lawrence Ritter had recorded his talks in " THE GLORY OF THEIR TIMES ." For those of you who have ESPN CLASSIC channel, it`s on this morning from 8a.m to 9a.m.

Mike (mike9) | 6455 comments Hey Mike, I just checked out your latest blog about Bill Veeck and while I always thought it was a great story I never really believed it. Even if Veeck had the idea to stock a major league team with Negro League players there's no way he would have told Landis. Everyone knew Landis was a racist who vowed no blacks would play in the majors while he was alive. Even Branch Rickey didn't challenge him on this point. Landis always said in public that there was no ban on blacks so all Veeck had to do was sign someone and With the media coverage Landis would've been powerless to stop him. It's always been a great tale but I put it right up there with Ruth's calling his own shot. Veeck was just to smart to go to the Grand Wizard and give him a heads up that he was going to break his number one rule.

message 28: by Michael Linn (new)

Michael Linn | 11288 comments Like I said, when I read this book I knew most Veeck facts and didn`t think they could turn up something new on him. This was new to me. Whether it`s true or not, Veeck is still dead, so.......
Mike Linn
p.s., but more important, did you like the blog?

Harold Kasselman | 19194 comments Why wouldn't he? It is easy to read and well written with an interesting topic. I'm telling you to write a novel or even a short story.
