chucklesthescot OK I've started a new bookblog and I'm a bit baffled, being a pure technophobe, how to add star ratings on to each book review I do on my blog. Help!

I've seen plenty of help on google for letting visitors rate your blog content with star ratings but that isn't what I'm looking for. I only want the star ratings to post on my reviews so that visitors can see my rating out of 5 for each book.

I'd like to use a version that does half stars if possible and I'd love a theme like vampire bats, skeletons or even smiley faces so links to sites that give lots of options would be helpful. Thanks!

Lola (lolasreviews) | 563 comments Search or make a star rating picture with accompanying text and then add those pictures to your blog post. Or you can add a line like "star rating: 4 stars" then you don't need a picture. Using pictures can lead to problems sometimes because of copyright issues.

chucklesthescot That sounds like a nice simple way of doing things for a technophobe! I'm heading off to try that. Thanks for helping me out again!

chucklesthescot I'm back-it worked brilliantly, thank you loads. Yet again you have come to my rescue! x

DeAnna (dee84812) | 671 comments If you want pictures but don't want to deal with copyright issues, I could probably make you something in Photoshop. I'm not very artistic, though, so I'd probably be better off with smiley faces than skeletons. lol I was using a Google image for my stars but got nervous and created my own in Photoshop. They're not as nice-looking, but they're cute and work.

not going to lie :p i paid for my blog to be custom to what i wanted.

I love martial arts and multiculturalism, and my star rate system features little cartoon children wearing little karate uniforms. Im not very pc savvy when it comes to making pages XD so getting a pro with reasonable rates really worked for me =D

Yeah, I just post it like this

My Rating: 4 stars

or whatever the rating is! Its just easier. I've seen the cute little pics, but I like simplicity in my blog as much as possible!

The only $ I pay for my blog is the occasional giveaways I do. And a lot of those are ARCs that I've received for free, but sometimes I buy inexpensive ebooks as giveaways. I know a lot of bloggers that pay a lot of $ on their blogs, but mine is more of a hobby, and any leftover $ I have, I want to buy books! To each his own I guess!

Hi there, apologies for not getting back to you sooner. I've been up to my eyes in blog posts this last week or so.

Thanks for your lovely offer! I do like cartoon smiley faces especially those ones with fangs.

Bee (justabluebee) Well, if you have a wordpress blog, I recommend buying the Ultimate book blogger plugin on Creative Whim. ^^ It's a must have for every book blogger.

This only works if you have a self-hosted blog, though. If you have a free blog (like I do for the time being), you can't use it.

True. But still. It's not that expensive as you might think. A wordpress.com blog costs you more if you buy all the add-ons. I've paid 52,50 dollars for the theme and the plugin I got, both from Creative Whim. That's just one time you need to pay that. And the blog itself costs me more or less 50 dollars a year including my domain name. So it's not really that expensive. And it's really worth the money. =) And you don't have to be afraid your blog gets deleted.

I back up my blog from time to time so I still have all my content even if it does get deleted. I'm so cheap, and I don't really want to have to pay for anything on my blog, except giveaways from time to time, and usually that's only shipping costs.

Kayla De Leon (kayladeleon) Jenny, how do you back up your blog?
