AUGUST - Summer Eights Challenge (Mods Off/BAP Challenge)
Note: (POSSIBILITY) This is a MOD challenge, which our team designed. So this means we can earn EXTRA BOOK POINTS for our team if we can complete the challenge! We can also used cupcakes earned through puzzles (and we have a bunch) to replace any books we cannot finish!
Rebecca, we haven't decided that about the cupcakes on the August Challenge... but sure, why not?
Whoops! Sorry Mods, I definitely jumped ahead on that one. I'll change it to a possibility and see if that's decided later in August. Just trying to motivate the team ;)
From the Mods:Please Note:
In the Spell-It-Out section, for each letter read books with titles (only the first or starting word will count), series names, authors (both first or last names), character (first or last name), that begin with letters that correspond to letter of the phrase or term you choose. You may ignore the indefinite and definite articles (a, an, the, etc.)
Yayy!!Here is the spread I made to keep track of our books read. It's just like the one Wendelin made for the 7% challenge
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/c...
For the spell it out portion of the challenge, should we tell the group ahead of time we are going for a specific letter? Say I read a book for B and before I post it someone else does the B and the book I read can't fit in any other catagory-which is unlikely since the challenge is pretty vast but just in case it could happen...
Yeah I think that's a good idea. In the spreadsheet you can post books you're planning on reading (just put them in italics) and that way people can try to plan around it so there aren't duplicates.
Thanks Rebecca! The spreadsheet will be a huge help. I lose track of these challenges quickly if I don't write things down.
This will be a lot of fun. It has structure but is less restrictive now that we don't have to read so many for each category.
Let me know if anyone has problems accessing / editting the spreedsheet. I think I have all the privacy settings off, but I could be missing something.
I added 6 books to be read to the spread sheet... I am in hopes of reading more then that in august, I will be recovering from surgery I will be having on the 30th so hoping I will not be so down that I cant read!
@Hope - do you mean the minimum requirement for each category? Nope, it one book total per category. For example, if we all decided to read books with beach covers we could technically read 1 book in each of the other 7 categories and 68 in that one. I don't forsee this happening per say, but its possible.
So the bottom line is to complete the challenge we need to:
1)Read at least 1 book per category
2)Read a total of 75 books
Finished my first book last night!
. Added it to August birthstones since it has a black cover and figured the spell-it out will be much easier to fill in.
Added in a couple of books. 1 finished, 1 currently reading. Will think about what else I have to fill up gaps.
I added The Shunning by Beverly Lewis to the Eights. Wasn't sure if we were including "the" or not though. If it hes to be moved we can....also couldn't change text to purple since I'm on the kindle. I'm away visiting my sister in MD but will be back Sat. Hope to get in some reading time though!
Seems like we've read 22 books. Books read said only 17... Could someone count again in case I see strange things?^^@Nancy: The Shunning has been purplified :D
Wendelin you are correct. I just completed "Liar, Liar".... posting from my cell so I can't change the text colors. We have read 23 books 52 to go!
I noticed that yesterday but wasn't sure if Rebecca was maybe just keeping track of the read books. 23... that's a good start for just 1 week. :o)
Wow you guys have been reading like crazy!! I need to step up my reading (too many fun things to do on vacation). We're approaching the halfway mark of August and have read 35 books!! Woohoo! Only 40 books to go, we can do this :)
Anddd we have all the categories filled so we reached that requirement!
Lets go Purple!
Hey purple team. We're doing AWESOME with the August challenge! I hope everyone's enjoying it and motivated to read read read :)Just a heads up, the Mods are still working out the kinks for the upcoming September challenge (they will post the final challenge with rules, questions, etc later).
However, here are the basics. We will be choose books to fit these 3 categories:
◈ A Book a Day Keeps the Boredom at Bay Reading Challenge.
◈ One A-Z challenge posted in NBRC.
◈ Plus one more from any other of our NBRC challenges.
So as of now, we can start looking through the extra challenges and see which ones we'd like to work on.
NOTE: We do not have to FINISH any of these challenges, just have books to fit in them.
Woohoo! How are we doing on the spell-it-out books? I added a K book I had finished, just to make sure that one is filled in (I left your post in there Vikki). Don't we need to complete all of the letters?
Jazz is correct! Just need to read 1 book per category. The limit is more that we can only read 15 books for spell it out.
Woohoo we're doing awesome!!! So close to our goal :)-I made a thread for the Septmber challenge which shows the rules and where everyone can ask questions and plan!
