I just finished The Rithmatist and I'm interested to see what everybody thinks about this new magic system, the quality of the book, thoughts on the younger age direction, etc.

I loved it.Interesting story, likable characters, unique - and quite complex - magic system... I could hardly put it down. I didn't mind the protagonist's age at all, and I thought he was well written.
Overall, it was a really engrossing read.
I thought that the magic system was a little hard to completely understand. Where in his other books he explains to the point that you could probably use the magic system, in this one I felt as if we knew just enough to read and understand the book. Maybe it was just me though, who didn't completely understand all the defenses, etc.
But it even has sketches for each different strategy!
I know, I may just be stupid. I did actually draw some of them out.
It's just a bit more complex than the others, that's all. But that's why I like it so much.
