Why the hell do we have to know about Earthworld, or Jim Halliday’s entire friggin life story, or a list of every single thing Wade has researched in his life??? The book is much longer and clunkier than it needs to be. So far I’m not seeing the appeal. (hide spoiler)]

Ok, I have begun. Chapters 0-3 (view spoiler)[ I liked the footnotes in chapter 0, but I'm glad they didn't continue through the rest of the book because I think it would make it slower to read. The OASIS sounds like it could be fun, but not if it takes over people's lives. The idea of a world trashed and people losing themselves in virtual reality is so much like what is happening now. I like that it's so realistic in some ways. (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 4-6 (view spoiler)[ It was interesting in chapter 5 to see the history if Halliday and the Oasis, but a little boring. Wade is definitely obsessed with the egg hunt. I feel bad for him because it's all he has. Indodnt want to stop ay chapter 6 because I want to know what happened while he's in class! I'll probably read early tomorrow so I can find out :) (hide spoiler)]

Because of the learning comment and the fact that Wade can't go anywhere else. I was so excited when he won. And then I thought that girl might take the key from him. Since I didn't have time to read yesterday, here are my thoughts on Chapters 13-18 (view spoiler)[ I can't believe the Sixers killed Wade's aunt and all those people! That was so crazy! I knew once he got involved with Art3mis, it wouldn't go well. Wade should've been keeping a lower profile and working harder on the jade key. Also, when Wade and Aech were in the chatroom and the magazines fell, that had to be someone invisible watching them. Maybe I-rok? (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 19-21 (view spoiler)[ Agh, another (kind of) cliffhanger! Art3mis has the jade key and I want to know where it is! Wade has been totally sucked into the OASIS. I'm glad he's exercising and eating healthy, but I worry for him that he doesn't interact with the real world at all. Can't wait to read tomorrow! (hide spoiler)]

I'm doing a combo listen/read. I think Wil Wheaton does a great job narrating. The world building might be more boring if I was just reading it, but there is something about his voice that makes it fun and interesting.

29% (Chapters 0-10)

(view spoiler)[First thoughts... thank god that info-dumpy world building is over! I mean, I like learning about new worlds and I get that this particular one needs a bit of explaining, but 60 pages is a bit too much. I felt like I was sitting through a history class, and not the kind you think is okay because the teacher is great.

After we got out of history class I really started to like this story. Wade is a good MC so far and I'm hoping we get to see more of him and Art3mis as friends (because I really liked their dynamic until she figured out his lie). I'm also interested to see how the other gunters might come into play later on in the story. The Sixers were mentioned too much in the history class to be brushed off.

The quest for the easter egg looks like it will be a fun one, but I have a feeling it won't be as straight-forward as we're led to believe. There's going to be a twist. There has to be! (hide spoiler)]

Ch 11-16 - (view spoiler)[ Whoa. I can't believe they just blew up a bunch of people. Well, I mean I can believe it, but still. There were other options to get at him. I guess it isn't like his aunt was a loving relative; Wade was already on his own.

Ch. 1-10: (view spoiler)[ I have to admit I'm still kind of confused. There are a lot of video game references that I'm not privy to, which was one of my concerns going into this book. It is still interesting and suspenseful, though. I like the 80s references, however. And when Wade mentioned Spielberg, I thought how cool it must be for the author to now have a movie adaptation of his book directed by Spielberg himself. I bet the movie's going to be amazing.

The world seems rather sad and hopeless. Or is it just Wade's life/world? It seems that his entire days are spent sitting in his van and living virtually and playing video games for hours on end. He needs to get off his ass. I do like him as an MC, though. He's the underdog, and I love underdog stories. (hide spoiler)]

And holy shit. I knew the Sixers would come into play but I wasn't expecting IOI to blow up a bunch of people because Wade wouldn't help them... Crazy bastards...

The idea of the High Five teaming up was interesting and although no one seemed to really like it I have a feeling they'll be forced to work together at some point. At least Wade, Art3mis, and Aech. The stack of magazines that fell over in the chat room is very suspicious. (I'm not sure I trust Aech because he brushed it off so casually.)

Wade's move to Columbus also sort of concerns me. That's where IOI's headquarters are IRL, right? I'm scared some security camera or IOI agent saw Wade enter his new apartment and that he'll be discovered.

The Sixers are completely crazy. I can't even believe they would blow up the stacks like it was nothing. The way Sorrento talked about poor people made me hate him even more.
