Since someone kindly nominated the two books in the same category, which would split the vote, I've opted for Gregory's Story , but A Life Apart is also nominated in the Best Cover category amid some very tough competition, so if any Complainers would care to vote for it there, please feel free! I've had loads of Facebook compliments for the covers, and I feel Oliver Frey/Zack deserves wider Goodreads recognition too!

Rick | 15796 comments ARGH!

I haven't even gotten The Warrior's Boy yet and now I see that Boy of the West End and Desert Studs are being listed. I'm soooo behind in my Kean/Frey books it isn't funny anymore! sob

In the Zack books Boy of the West End won't be out for awhile yet so you have plenty of time to read Boys of Disco City, Boys of Two Cities, and Boys of the Fast Lane and What's a Boy Supposed To Do. I see you have rated the first "Boys of…" book Boys of Vice City.

Also if you haven't read Roger's books A Life Apart and Gregory's Story I would highly recommend you read those first. Also Roger's saga of the Second Punic War Thunderbolt: Torn Enemy of Rome and the fantastical and very sexy Felixitations is magnificent also. There are others but these could keep you busy until Bruno Gmünder gets around to publishing Boy of the West End.

Being such a prodigious reader, with college wrapping up you could probably squeeze these books in between your three exams, 2 short response papers and your history paper.

Of course after graduation you might be missing some of your non-fiction reading especially history so then I'd suggest The Complete Chronicle of the Emperor's of Rome, Forgotten Power Byzantium Bulwark of Christianity, Pirates - Predators of the Seas: An Illustrated History, the "Life in Ancient.." series and what the heck I'd suggest everything at:
https://www.goodreads.com/author/list...

Although I suppose you could skip Roger's Theory Test For Car Drivers because we wouldn't want you driving around Ohio on the left side of the road. :-)

I don't think you need any luck so I won't say good luck with your papers and the test but best wishes finishing these last few items before donning your cap and gown.

Wow, that's quite the sales pitch, Preston. I am trying to decide which to celebrate my freedom from course work with: Boys of Disco City or A Life Apart. I did love both Thunderbolt:Torn Enemy of Rome and Felixitations so it might be A Life Apart, but I love the thought of flying down to Florida to visit my dad with my copy of of Boys of Disco City open so the casual peeping tom can look over and see the beautiful illustrations by Oliver Frey. Decisions, decisions, decisions...

I'm literally laughing out loud at the thought of your father seeing the magnificent gay art of the legendary Zack (Oliver.) I can't decide if this is evil or not but I know it's outrageously funny!

He might actually enjoy Oliver's 50 page scifi comic book The Terminal Man 9.8 x 7.8 x 0.3 inches on heavy stock. It's amazing art in color "When the spaceliner Arcadia crashes in a planetary system unknown to man, a very strange hero steps up to lead the surviving passengers in a quest for their safe return to Earth
– Cross: computer, virus, man…"

Rick | 15796 comments Oh I certainly enjoyed The Terminal Man and Hot For Boys: The Sexy Adventures Of Rogue, but I enjoyed Bike Boy and Bike Boy Rides Again even more. My dad might like The Terminal Man but, alas, I fear he might not appreciate the art in Boys of Disco City. Still I was thinking about all the people on planes who love to be nosy and look at what you're reading. I'm sure they'd love Oliver's glorious art.

Roger Kean | 17278 comments Oliver. reading this over my shoulder is blushing so hard he just had to go downstairs and have another look at the apricot tarte tatin I just baked to go after the chateaubriand we're having tonight with friend Mark Pitter, whose mother was the model for Patience in "Knowing Felix".

I'm blushing too. hate giving you guys such a hard time…

Now! I want this book now! Smiley

message 75: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments Oh, Lori, thank you for that. Monika says the same, but I still have to work on it and for the past two weeks I have been embroiled in helping my mother move house, something that should soon be complete, this week I hope, so I can get back to Harry… or as his Afghan companions know him, Left-tenant Haaryvan. :-))

Preston | 20148 comments Roger wrote: "Roger wrote: "You can read the description and first chapter of Harry's Great Trek..."

The first chapter you posted is good but in order to decide if I'm going to really like it you'll have to post some of the sex scenes.

Hmmmmmm… oh, very well, wait for the link! I'll post something the minute I'm finished with the day's labor at the Trinket Central distribution point of my mother's new apartment :)

message 78: by Rick (new)

Rick | 15796 comments Re: Harry's Great Trek - looking good. I can hardly wait. Although I'll probably want to read A Life Apart and Gregory's Story first. I think that I'll be getting to A Life Apart after I finish The Battle of Corrin. ;)

message 79: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments You'll get a richer picture with Harry if you read the other two first. :-))

Preston | 20148 comments Roger wrote: "You'll get a richer picture with Harry if you read the other two first. :-))"

A richer picture? I haven't even seen one picture of Harry yet. Where are you hiding his 8" x 10" glossies?

message 81: by Rick (new)

Rick | 15796 comments Preston wrote: "A richer picture? I haven't even seen one picture of Harry yet. Where are you hiding his 8" x 10" glossies?"

Yeah, inquiring minds (er... eyes) want to know (er... see). ;)

message 82: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments In fact Oliver has been collecting faces to inspire his notion of Harry, although I think an old school friend of mine is in the main running. But there is also Arshan to be included as well, of course, as Jolyon. The first three-face cover.

Unfortunately, I don't pay him for the work, and he needs to earn us our pennies, so Harry's Great Trek is taking time to conceive and execute. Watch this space!

message 83: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments I posted another chunk of Harry's story to satisfy Preston's demands for something a bit raunchier…

message 84: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments The fifth instalment of the adventures of Gil Graham & Mike Smith Boy of the West End is out now in paperback at Amazon.com; will be later in Feb for Amazon.co.uk. I expect when the ebook versions come out they won't have Oliver Frey/Zack's illustrations as the paperback do, due to Apple refusing to sell them with pictures…

message 85: by Preston, Moderator (new)

Preston | 20148 comments So screw Apple and put the porn art in the ebooks.

Amazon rapidly delivered my copy of the paperback and it's almost as beautiful as Roger's Mona Lisa smile in the photo above. My barely adequate review if you can call it a review is at https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

message 86: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments That's my Moaning Lisa smile.

This is my normal smile…

Thank you for the warm review, Preston!

message 91: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments Announcing a piece of pure trash writing by my friend Rod Bellamy, a novel so awful publisher Bruno Gmünder invented a new brand for it (art by Zack, who has disowned the story even though he enjoyed painting the cover…) It should be out some time late summer.

front for scale…

and back…

message 92: by Preston, Moderator (new)

Preston | 20148 comments You say the cover art is by Zack and yet it is signed (just above the young man's hand on the left side of the cover) Oliver Frey with whom you have been romantically linked.

Have you been using pillow talk to gather insider information on this competitor's book after "Zack" [although signed Oliver Frey] "...has disowned the story even though he enjoyed painting the cover…"?

You say this writer Rod Bellamy is your friend and yet you openly attack him for his "pure trash writing". Some friend. I'm glad I'm not a friend of yours that I'd be maligned like that.

message 93: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments Preston, I am always exactingly honest toward my friends' efforts. Bruno Gmünder wanted a trash-pulp fiction novel and Rod has given them exactly that. As to the Huffington Post-style smear campaign regarding my "romantic links" to Oliver Frey (who thinks he's legendary homosexual gay artist Zack), I simply have no comment to make :::sniff:::

message 94: by Preston, Moderator (new)

Preston | 20148 comments That Bruno must be bad news. What's he like a skinhead with piercings and tattoos all over riding a big bad Harley and smoking dope all day?

Sent a PM? Good because this is the Roger Kean and His Books section not the Rod Bellamy fan club. Let's keep this on topic. Harumph!

message 100: by Rick (new)

Rick | 15796 comments Well, I suppose we could start a Rod Bellamy fan club.

But I really need to read the book first. ;)
