Akeylah the movie sucked horribly. the bool was fine though

Akeylah oops. book

NoraReads The movie was okay..But the book?!! oh my God amazing!! it's one of my all time favorite books!.

Inyourgravity The movie was...Oh well, I wish they feature actual meaningful moments..

Nightshade6 I liked the book a lot better.

Sherry Stevens I know I'm completely out numbered here, but a different opinion. I could not get into the book. I did not enjoy the first person narrative and found the transitions between Mel and Wanda difficult. I actually appreciated the movie. Just like most book to screen play, there was a lot left out but it was a good companion to the book. I found the story a lot more tolerable in movie form. I definitely think this was a story that was better as a movie than as a book. I would have went straight to screen with it and skipped the book.

Konstantina I loved the book and although they left out some important parts in the movie, I liked it a lot because you could understand the plot without having read the book.

message 58: by Jami (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jami I liked the book, so when I had a free night with the house and the remote all to myself, I watched the movie. Or, actually, I watched part of the movie. I got more than half way through, got up to go get something to drink, played some Angry Birds, and ended up falling asleep. In short, the movie was a Snoozefest. And I was looking forward to this movie :(

Kiran I enjoyed the book a lot more than the movie, I find the movie cheesy and cringe-worthy. I didn't enjoy the movie at all.

Kiran Kk the book was really good but the movie was bad..even though i didnt expect much from the movie,it was difficult to watch...

Crystal I LOVED the book and could not put it down. The movie however, feel waaaay short for me. I know they can't put everything in a movie but there was so much they left out. If you hadn't read the book I think the movie would have just confused you.

J. Barneck The book was pretty huge (651 pages not 300-400). The best part of the book was the internal dialog between Melenie and Wanda. So to start with, there were two issues to overcome in translation to a movie:

1. Internal dialog in a movie is hard to pull off.
2. Turning long books into a single movie is hard to pull off.

I think they tried their best and the movie is as good as they could make, but the book was far superior.

Can someone tell Stephenie to release another book already?

Suchi I liked both the book and movie. I agree with Amanda, I would recommend both the book and the movie.

Anthonyl I loved the book. Easily a favorite of mine, read it a couple of times. The movie, didn't do the book full justice and missed out on a lot of backgroud information. In saying that I enjoyed the movie for what it is, and would happily watch it again and I hope Stephanie writes another sequel soon. BTW from the end of the movie it looks like the next story will be even better, more action packed etc...

Tracie the book was ok, the movie was terrible. If I hadn't read the book first I probably would have left the theater in the first 30 minutes. I stayed because it was laughable and I wanted to see how everything played out on screen.

I LOVE the book! I really liked the movie too but the book if definitely better. Books are almost always better than the movies, it's a given. I didn't think the movie was as bad as everyone I've talked to is saying though. I also look at movies from the film standpoint not the you-ruined-my-favorite-book standpoint, so maybe that's why.

Andrea I loved the book, in my opinion it was much better then the book. In the movie you can't see the relationships as well as you can in the book....the book was easier to understand and it didn't immediately go into Wanda being in Melanie's body like in the movie....the book explained things and made it understandable.

Lauren Loved the book, hated the movie

message 69: by Zoe (new)

Zoe I absolutely loved this book. One of my all time favorites. I just felt like the movie was really lacking. They could have done so much better with it and it just really disappointed me, because I loved the book so much. I'm not normally one of those people who always say that the book will always be better than the movie. Most the time I don't have any complaints about movies based off books I've read. In fact about 90% of the time I love the movie just as much as the book, or sometimes even more. For example Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks. I loved the book and I loved the movie. In this case though I just really did not like the movie at all. Which upsets me because I had such high expectations for this movie.

It was quite some time ago that I read the book, probably when it first came out and I really liked it. I just saw the movie last night with my husband and we both thought it was creative, futuristic and just plain good.

I do not remember how the book ended, but to me the movie was really good. I look forward to a sequel of The Host.

Erin O'Riordan The book bored me - there was just so much waiting around in it. The movie removed a bunch of the waiting, and it captured some nice moments from the book. The book was just okay (I think I gave it three stars), but the movie, definitely, did not suck.

Janese Jackson I loved this book when I first read it years ago (still love it now) but I was wary when I heard a movie was being made. So much of this story is thought processes and Wanda's gradual love for humanity that I knew it wouldn't translate well to the screen. The movie was awful.

karinughhh Fola wrote: "I really liked the book but I think they just didn't translate it correctly into the movie."

I agree totally! The book was amazing, but the movie just didn't have that...

message 74: by Aimee (new) - added it

Aimee I loved the book but the movie was really disappointing to me. The pacing was rushed and the relationships between the characters within the movie were unbelievable to me.The ending though, in the movie, I think was done beautifully!

karinughhh Yeah I agree! The ending was find very well!!

I totally agree with everything you said. I watched the movie first and I thought it was amazing. and then I read the book and I only started getting really hooked half way through. I loved both the book and movie, although as always the book is better than the movie. I just wished that they described the eyes better in the book.

although I have to say that I liked Jared better in the book.

Melissa I thought the book was amazing! The movie was alright but it wasn't awesome. There were some scenes that they didn't put in the movie but I wish they did. The scenes they skipped were the ones where Wanda is more integrated with people. A scene they didn't do is when Wanda and everyone else were in the cafeteria and she didn't have anywhere to sit, stuff like this where she's left out and usually someone lets Wanda join them, to make it feel like shes really one of them.

Sammyd Fola wrote: "I really liked the book but I think they just didn't translate it correctly into the movie." I agree!!!

Sammyd I agree!!!!

Widnieisnow The movie bored me to death. I fell asleep in the theatre. However, I adore the book. I've read it 3xs, and I will read it again.

Maria i thought the movie was a complete joke. the adaptation was beyond horrible and the script was so cheesy it made me want to vomit.

Elaine Ossipov Absolutely the Book was so much better than the movie, there's really no comparison, almost 2 different stories.

Taunya Orlando Worst movie adaption ever. I love love love the book and was so disappointed I didn't even finish watching the movie. I hope they don't do the same to Divergent!

Sarah I loved the book and but just liked the movie. In my option books are always better than the movie so I wasn't that surprised the movie didn't live up to book. My sister (who hadn't read the book said she really liked the movie). So really I don't think the movie was bad...it just if you read the book and loved it you do notice stuff they left out.

message 85: by Lisa (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lisa Book obviously was way better. I know they only have so much time in movie, but I feel they cut out alot of emotion building in the movie. I think the movie was also overhyped cause of previous success by Stephanie Meyers so the bar was set too high as well in avg movie goer which could have backfired.

message 86: by Jen (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jen I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I thought that there were definitely quite a few things that just didn't translate to the movie and thus made it a bit more confusing. Things obviously have to move quicker in a movie but it could have been done better. I did enjoy the final seen though when Wanda thought she was dying - I thought the actress was pretty good.

But I don't like that it is left open for a possible sequel. Why? Seriously I loved the book and even thought it was better than twilight because it seemed more developed. I sometimes think that all the author sees is dollar signs though, I mean honestly. Well she will run out of stories soon since she hasn't been writing anything else really.

Judith I loved the story and characters in the book. The movie was too short to truly get a a true feel of the world and problems that Wanda had to overcome. The movie wasn't able to covey the depth in the book.

Wandahost This one of my favorite books, so for me to be please with the movie, it would had to be like 20 hour movie.

Madalena Pereiro That's not a bad film but it's nothing comparing with the book.
LOVE THE BOOK!!!
The film doesn't have all the details of the book which changes the whole story and that piss me off!
It's impossible to put all the details but they should NEVER, EVER CHANGE THE MAIN STORY!!

Jessica I read the book back when I was in high school and I still remember the plot pretty well (given that was almost 3 years ago). I really enjoyed the book but when I recommended it to people I always said, "The first 14 chapters are completely boring, but it gets good after that!" And with a review like that, not many of my friends decided to read the book. Then I watched the movie, and I have to say that I like the movie better than the book! This is the first and only instance where this has happened to me! I liked the way the movie portrayed what one of the little aliens looked like, (I could never really picture it) and I loved the ending better in the movie. The ending in the book just seemed to fall flat with me; how Wanda got this child's body and Melanie got to live happily ever after. It just didn't seem right to me. But the movie, Wanda and Melanie both got their men and they started a revolution! The movie just left me feeling better after I watched it. I like to feel like if we were to take a peek into the character's lives five years from now everything would work out, and I feel like it would in the movie's version rather than the book's version. I'm just a sucker for happy endings I guess!

Sophie Thomson I really like the book.I really like the movie. I think that they di a great job turning the book into a movie because its not the easiest story to do that with. I do think it lacked a bit of love between Ian and Wanda, she just suddnely came out with i love you at one point and that was it until she got her new body, and it could have done with a bit more communication between Wanda and Melanie BUT that doesnt take away from its a good adaption for a pretty hard story to do so with and no movie will ever be the exact same as a book.

Kaila Podzikowski I honestly think NON of the producers or actors of the movie actually read the book. Literally so many things were different. I understand how it’s necessary to condense to create a movie, but they changed things unnecessarily and completely ruined it. First of, talk about awful casting! Ian is supposed to be a strong, huge, beautiful man with black hair and blue eyes and they picked this wimpy looking dude. And Wandas new body is supposed to be small and blond. And Melanie should be tan, brown eyed, and I pictured her a lot more fierce looking. Aside from awful casting, I think that they completely missed all the key points to all the relationships. Wanda and Melanie’s love for each other, how much Wanda loved Jared and Jamie, Ian’s insane love and protective drive for Wanda. It kills me because I love the book so much, but I never want to watch the movie again.
