Manny was exhausted he thought as he dragging himself to class. He knew he shouldn't have stayed up last night. Then he remembered his first class is study hall. He can have an extra time for a nap. As he walked in he went to the sofa and began to take a nap.He woke up 3o minutes later.
Ruby rushed into study hall half an hour late. She had gotten into an argument with her aunt Ashlynn before school about how her aunt needed the car so she could drive to the local winery and stock up. Ruby argued with her that education was more important than alcohol but in the end Ruby had ended up walking to school. As Ruby went to take a seat she noticed that the guy in front of her was asleep. Just as she was about to tap him with her pencil, he jerked awake. Startled, she pulled her hand away and started to feel a blush work its way across her cheeks.
Manny heard chair movement behind him and looked. He saw a Blonde girl and smiled. "Hey, I am Emanuel how come I never see you around here before?",He said as he reach out his arm to shake her hand.
Ruby stretched out an ar, to shake hands with him and replied, "I'm Ruby, I... Uh, moved here recently."
She shrugged and looked down at her wrists, pulling her jacket sleeves down to cover up the scars. "It's okay, I guess."
Manny notice her pulling up her sleeve but decided not to ask "You'll probably get the hang of things after at least a month but why don't you sit with me during lunch until you can find some people?"
Ruby glanced at him and asked, "Wait, Really? That would be nice." She tucked her hair behind her ear and gave him a shy smile.
Manny deciding not to push the topic change to a new one "alright do you have any brothers or sisters?"
At that sentence Ruby's smile vanished completely. Her face became hard and she looked down at the table instead of looking at Emanuel. "Not anymore."
Manny instantly regretted asking that question "oh I am sorry we don't have to talk about this we could just talk about... clowns" since that was weirdly the first thing that came to his mind.
Ruby cracked a smile when he said clowns, "Alright. I've always found clowns quite scary, myself."((Sorry, last post for now.))
(( Yay, I missed you welcome back))Manny sighed with relief " yeah me too but don't tell anyone it my might ruin me" he laughed.
Ruby laughed and at that a teacher gave her a pointed look and shushed her. "Your secret's safe with me."
"Good cause it would suck if it got out" snicker Manny. "but enough about me asking question you turn" with a raised eyebrows.
Ruby pondered what to ask him for a few moments and then said, "If you could live anywhere, anytime, where and when would it be?"
Manny thought about it and then decided "France during the renaissance age of the 1920's with my camera the pictures would be priceless and the music would be good too,You?" Answer Manny.
Ruby thought hard about it and replied, "Australia in, like, twenty years... Not sure why, it just sounds like an adventure." She shrugged.
Manny laughed "oh so your adventurous like Nancy Drew or Indiana Jones?" He smiled "But that cool I am sure the land is fantastic out there".
Ruby smiled and said, "I really have no clue what's in Australia besides platypuses and poisonous snakes and insects. I just want to go somewhere else."
"I get that feeling I been in this town my whole entire life my dad has this Diner since he Married my mom and he never wanted to expand and Me I just want to see change" Manny sighed then shrugged. "Oh well things will be different when I do things".
Ruby nodded nodded understandingly. "Change can be a good thing and a bad thing. Alas, you can't have good without the bad."
Ruby nodded and muttered, "You have no idea." She looked at him and matched the smile on his face. "I'm glad I met someone cool at this school."
Manny shrugs, "There are some other cool people you just haven't met them all and you wouldn't say that if you met my siblings I feel like I would be dork by association".
Manny laughed,"oh stop it you" to emphasise the point he threw his arm and pretend to blush. "But seriously total dorks all 4 of them it like I am the only one who obtain the cool genes".
Manny looked at her for a still moment of all the times he held composure this was not one of them he laughed so hard people in far off island heard him.
Ruby looked at him for a second and then couldn't help it, his laughter was contagious. She started to laugh too. "I'm gonna guess that's a no?"
Manny gain some breathe but still snickering " I have a family of 6, 7 if my brother gets back from college we have a total amount of 4.5 bathrooms including the bathroom in the diner and it will be a miracle if I know what hot water is if I don't get up early in the morning".
"Oh, Jesus. I live alone with my drunk aunt in a house approximately the size of this room." Ruby wasn't sure why she was telling him about that, but it felt good telling someone, even if he thinks that she's lame because of it.
" Oh god when I go visit my drunkard of an Uncle Henry he acts like the bathroom IS his apartment its horrible" Manny said not even flinching when she told him that.
Ruby felt like the weight of the world was lifted off of her shoulders, knowing that he didn't judge her because of the conditions she lived in. Her face broke out into a grin. "Exactly! I had to walk to school today because my aunt 'needed' the car, that's why I was late."
"Oh, wow. That's really nice of you, you don't have to do that. I didn't mean to make you feel obliged to do anything for me." Ruby said, hoping she hadn't sounded needy.
"Its no problem I am practically begging you I need someone to talk to on my way here besides my sister" Manny said as he pleads with her with puppy dog eyes.
Ruby looked at his ridiculously adorable puppy dog look and laughed. "That would be amazing, thank you."
Manny smiled " Thank you here my number so you can text me you address later" he wrote his number on a piece of paper.
"And I am warning you my sister like to ask question and annoy the hell out of new people so you have been warned" Manny said in a dead serious voice with a bit of humor in it.
"I think I can handle it," she said, but she wasn't quite so sure. She still didn't like talking about her family, but figured it would be fine.
" And if she weird you out I can tell her to shut up and if she does it again I can stop the car make her walk the rest of the way to school." Manny joked knowing full well his parents would skin him alive if he did that.
"Jeez, no don't do that! She'd probably hate me for the rest of my life!" She said, but she was grinning because she thought it was thoughtful that he'd say that.
