I think if she'd been made to feel less ashamed of being born a vampire maybe, it wasn't the blood so much as the acceptance of her nature that it represented when Lachlain let her drink. And her new belief that she wasn't evil because she was part vampire.

I have to agree with you Susan the Lykae are my favorite too, and like you I started a little early on reading it as well. This was my first time rereading it so I guess I was a little too excited to get started. I still loved it as much as the first time maybe more because I knew what was going to happen. I'm not looking forward to the next book it was my least favorite but here's hoping I love it the second time around.

So many fun surprises in this book and it's amazing all the little hints and clues KC wove into the story that then come back around later in books like Lothaire and Pleasures of a Dark Prince. (Love that scene at Val Hall that we see from Lachlain's POV, then we get to see it from Garreth's POV in his book.)
You know who continues to intrigue me is Kristoff. Emma's first cousin, legitimate king of the Horde, Lothaire's half-brother (though we don't know that at the time.) Can hardly wait for his story.
Who also stands out for me in this book (besides Lachlain and Emma) is Nix, Regin, and Bowen, of course, but also Furie, even though she is only ever referred to and has no dialogue. I feel for her fictional self, chained to the bottom of the ocean for millennia. I'm also glad that KC has pretty much put Annika in the background since AHLNO.

Yeah. I love this book too. My first IAD book and I've reread it several times already.

This is the first book where I read ahout the scheming betrayer Lothaire, immediately I knew I love him. This book was not exactly stellar for me, but it was a platform to introduce characters and pairings that kept me hooked to this series.

I agree with you Arianne. She gets into one fight with Cass (I think that's her name) and there are no other conflicts about her being their Queen. Do you think the reaction was minimal because most of the Lykae were supposed to be in the United States and perhaps hadn't heard the news yet?

I think it was because a) the Lykae hold Mates as sacred and b) Lachlain and Bowen were amongst the only Lykae who knew and they were keeping it a secret until Lachlain could lock it down with Emma.

Kinda want to start on the next book now... also one of my favs.

Agreed!
I finally started this. I am already falling back in love again. I think the beginning is very iconic and unforgettable. Cole puts us right in Emmaline's place. Would you want your mate to be some barely human, beastly man, who is chasing you like a predator? I couldn't stop reading this the first time, and I only wish I had time to fall into this book and read it straight through right now. Unfortunately, I'm having to squeeze it in amongst other stuff right now.

*daydreams* First impressions are everything and that one floored me. Its one of the most memorable moments, it introduces his type of character from the very beginning. One that I love! Can you imagine your first encounter to be this hot sexy alpha male barreling toward you with such focus *fans self* HOT HOT!! And i simply adore Emma! They are a perfect match!

I know I would love to see them have children!

Book Description:
Acclaimed author Kresley Cole introduces a sizzling new series with this tale of a fierce werewolf and a bewitching vampire—unlikely soul mates whose passion will test the boundaries of life and death.
A mythic warrior who'll stop at nothing to possess her...
After enduring years of torture from the vampire horde, Lachlain MacRieve, leader of the Lykae Clan, is enraged to find the predestined mate he's waited millennia for is a vampire. Or partly one. This Emmaline is a small, ethereal half Valkyrie/half vampire, who somehow begins to soothe the fury burning within him.
A vampire captured by her wildest fantasy...
Sheltered Emmaline Troy finally sets out to uncover the truth about her deceased parents—until a powerful Lykae claims her as his mate and forces her back to his ancestral Scottish castle. There, her fear of the Lykae—and their notorious dark desires—ebbs as he begins a slow, wicked seduction to sate her own dark cravings.
An all-consuming desire...
Yet when an ancient evil from her past resurfaces, will their desire deepen into a love that can bring a proud warrior to his knees and turn a gentle beauty into the fighter she was born to be?
Participants should feel free to post their thoughts on the book, post questions for the other readers, and to join in on the discussion of Lachlain and Emma's unforgettable romance.
