Rhonda @Ezi - I'll be gone to a doctor appointment from 8:45 a.m. (same time zone as you) until whenever, so I might not be with a computer for choosing time. Also, we'll be leaving town Friday night, so probably won't be able to start reading until Monday.

Review
Rose lives in a place called the Edge it’s a place between the non-magic and magic worlds. Not everyone can cross between the worlds but the Edgers however it has made them outsiders they don’t fit in with the either place. For Rose isn’t been a rough life, tormented in school growing, her grandfather is an walking corpse, she’s been looking after her little brothers since she was sixteen, and her boyfriend tried to sell her when he learned she could flash white . Rose has a rare ability that typically only noble bluebloods have which has put her on guard.

So when a handsome stranger shows up she assumes he’s after her just like all the others. She agrees to go with him if he can complete three challenges. However Rose has no plans to make it easy. As if the blueblood noble isn't enough to worry about hound like creatures are hunting in the Edge forest seeking magic users. When Declan saves her brother she allows him to stay with her because he offers protection from the strange creatures. As Rose learns about the monster hunting in the woods she will have to team up with Declan to save her family, and together they will have to put it risk their lives to save the other.

I really love Rose she’s smart, stubborn and isn't afraid to say what she thinks. The chemistry between Rose and Declan is hot like white flash. Through the book we learn both Rose and Declans back stories. I like how each of her brothers is also magical one is a lynx changelings and the other a necromancer. We get little bits of their story woven into Roses story. We also get to see some of her grandparents in the story which just enhance the story.

I've had this one on the shelf for ages and I mean ages to read but never seemed to get around to it. This week’s words with friends challenge it was a perfect fit so I decided to dive into the world of the Edge. The edge is an action packed adventure filled with monster hounds, magic, swords, handsome men and stubborn girls. I honestly had a hard time putting down my kindle I was sucked in right from the start I ended up staying up most of the night till I couldn't keep my eyes open. I found the concept for On the Edge new and exciting the story is captivating from start to finish very well written. This is my first book by the talented Ilona Andrews but I’m an instant fan and look forward to reading the rest of hers. Definitely one of my favorites of the year a must read series for anyone who loves urban fantasy.

WotW: Quit - Location 66% "That," she said firmly. "Quit it."

Hubby is at a football season opener party...I'm only 20% into my book:(

OF COURSE I'M WATCHING. But we need clean drawers to wear next week, and so I'm home folding clothes. Hubby is out watching the game.
I fold and watch.

BTW, who the F**k is this Terrence Williams aka 50/50? Dropping all those great passes.

message 369: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments I know that was pathetic. I was so worried poor Dez and Romo were out of it for a minute. Relieved they're ok. The defense looked great tonight.

message 370: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) | 205 comments good job mandy! I'm at about 20% in my book. planning to finish tuesday or wednesday

message 371: by Rhonda (new)

Rhonda Okay, so I have Romo and Dez on my fantasy team and I must say, while they won the game, it was not so great for fantasy. Dez netted me only 2 points when typically he's Romo's favorite target. I hope their friends again by next week.

I hope everyone had a good weekend. I'm a football fanatic so my weekend was near perfect.

message 372: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments The Giants had Dez shut down. Miles Austin was our go to receiver last night. I'd expect a big game from both Romo & Dez next week though.

message 373: by Rhonda (new)

Rhonda LOL - yea, I noticed that, but as my luck goes my matchup had Miles Austin. It just wasn't my night. I'll be starting Romo and Bryant every week though. Their my best pair and overall, I'm sure they'll do well.

message 374: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Sickle (thereadingdiaries) | 1343 comments I can't get into football. Maybe it's because during the Raiders my die hard bleed silver and black husband was screaming and yelling up a storm. He's so passionate he makes watching any sport annoying. I also told him he should of taken Peyton for his quarterback. He's old but still has what it takes to put up lots of points. Gotta love fantasy football. Do you play for money Rhonda?

message 375: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments Lmao my youngest says the same thing. Says he hates Sundays cause me and the hubby yell too much at the TV.

message 376: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Sickle (thereadingdiaries) | 1343 comments My three year old comes from the other part of the house and yells when daddy yells. It's kind of cute but I think he's cultivating a raiders fan.

Dez will always have double coverage because he is that dangerous.

you want to have Jason Witten on your team. he will always be Tony's go-to guy. I freaking love that guy.

@Mandy: Payton Manning was a BEAST. seven touchdowns and NO Interceptions is enough points to put someone ahead for weeks in Fantasy football.

@Jenne: my daughter asked me "Mommy, whose my team? Daddy's Giants, or your Cowboys?"
My poor kids were so confused. Life got easier when hubby went to Sports Bar with other guys in our neighborhood

message 378: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments Lmao I forgot your hubby was a New Yorker! My dad lives in Houston so he's a diehard Texans fan. We talk mad crap during the games because he hates the Cowboys. Hunter joined in last night it was soooo funny. He texted my dad to see if he was watching and dad said yeah but I don't like them. Hunter texted him back that's why they're America's team because people who don't like them watch them still. I let him stay up past bedtime to finish watching for that comment!

message 379: by Rhonda (new)

Rhonda I do play for money and this year I'm really out there playing in 3 leagues. I'm an old Raiders fan and I had Terrelle Pryor on one team. The pundits said he was no good, but I gambled and played him. Heck he got as many points as Romo, so it was a good gamble this week.

I scream and yell too, which draws raised eyebrows from my husband. I'm the football fan in the family.

One of the reasons I love it is because I can get out a lot of stress built up through the week. Scream, yell, stomp my feet, etc. It's a great stress reliever! I'd be that way whether I was playing fantasy or not.

Seattle Seahawks are my favorite team, but I still love those sloppy Raiders.

message 380: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments My fantasy team sucks this year! I have crappy RB!

message 381: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Sickle (thereadingdiaries) | 1343 comments My heart goes out to the Raiders. I told my hubby they ever superbowl we will go but I so far haven't had to follow through.
I used to love the Seahawks but my hubby has pushed my love of football out the window. He keeps telling me to get a raiders tattoo like him.

My hubby plays a family game and never wins we just hand money away I like to say. His other game is work they play for money but bragging rights are what they really want.

I never though of it as a good stress reliever. Maybe I won't get so angry when he's screaming and yelling.

How are you ladies doing on your reading?

message 382: by Rhonda (new)

Rhonda I have 4 tattoos and want for more, but I'm positive I will NEVER get a tattoo of a logo, football or otherwise. Don't let him convince you! ;)

My reading this week has barely started. I think I'm 60 or so pages into a 348 page book. The Saturday family reunion out of state and my football filled Sunday took care of any reading being done. I'm hoping to make some progress this afternoon - but tonight is football night. I'll be reading in earnest tomorrow. Thank goodness I won't be away next Saturday.

*Whew ~ swipes hand across forehead.*

message 383: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Sickle (thereadingdiaries) | 1343 comments My hubby told me I was in luck tonight doubleheader. Oh boy I'm so thrilled. I should be able to read a whole book without him saying two words to me.

I have a rose and pair of dragons but I have many more tattoos I want. I want to do something bookish like a owl and stack of books. Maybe one day.

message 384: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments My first tattoo was a back piece, angel wings. I guess I figured I'd go all out lol.

I want a tattoo, but my husband the physician freaked out.

Don't worry Rhonda, I am still reading my book and I am going to watch both Monday night games. 1st to see how RG3 will do, and also Mike Vick.

second, i am curious to see how the Houston Texan's look after they copied Jerry's Big Ass Jumbo Screen TV for their stadium

message 386: by Rhonda (last edited Sep 09, 2013 02:14PM) (new)

Rhonda I'm excited about tonight. I have Alfred Morris (whose fun to watch), the Redskins kicker, and the Texans tight end. I don't think they can save me in FF, but watching is still a lot of fun.

There's not much that's funnier than a freaked out husband. When I was a kid if my parents told me not to do something, I made sure I got out and did whatever it was with extra zeal as soon as possible. I guess I'm still a bit of a rebel.

Seriously though, it's sweet that he worries about things like that. I think tattooing is pretty safe as long as you go to a reputable artist who follows all the safety/health requirements.

@Mandy - I know that Ezi is in Texas and you are in California with your military husband, but I'm curious now as to whether or not you're a native Texan?

My daughter, Carody, 21, was married in October to a great guy who is also in the air force. They are stationed in Sumter, SC. Anyway, in that short time, he's been in Korea, (they married at the tail end of his tour while he was on leave), he was home for 11 months and he's now in Afghanistan - left in May and will be back in November. I think she's getting a great big taste of what it is to be a military wife!

I hope this weeks reading is good fun for all.

message 390: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Sickle (thereadingdiaries) | 1343 comments I was born and raised in Boise Idaho. I've never been to Texas but the hubby keeps talking about retiring in Houston so I can have the beach. I wanted to retire in Newport Oregon but it rains so he can't golf. Either way that's a long way off like 13 years lol.

It's not easy being a military wife so I applaud the wives that can do it. I'm spoiled my hubby is a flyer so when he deploys its only for 70 days at a time and once a year. We also are stuck for his whole career in CA due to his plane is at a two bases. The nice thing about being a military wife is they have a great support system.

Hmmm I know some doctors with more ink than all of us together I'm sure. I kind of wish I'd done gothic wings on my back.

Week 8: Word: Quit

Book: Unleashing the Storm by Sydney Croft
Finished: September 9, 2013
Unleashing the Storm (ACRO, #2) by Sydney Croft

Rating & Review: ★★★½
Tom Knight aka Ender was sent to bring in “The Animal Whisperer” Kira Donovan to ARCO headquarters within 48 hours or kill her if she refused. She just had too much power to be left out in society. This normally wouldn’t be a problem since Ender never bonds with anyone. In fact, his longest relationship was 48 hours. So Ender figured he will seduce Kira and/or kill her if necessary. But after having sex with her every 3 hours for a day, Ender comes to see there is more to Kira than ARCO realized and that he didn’t want to kill her. That left Ender with one option: Convince her to come into the fold of ARCO. But Kira is as stubborn as Ender, so he has his work cut out for him. Meanwhile, Kira’s need to mate every few hours was keeping Ender really busy as he tried to stay one step ahead of the Itor operatives also after Kira.

Also in this book, we have some movement with Creed and Annika, Dev and his “ghost” situation. I don’t know if I cared about Dev’s heritage, but I certainly like Creed and Ani, and I was happy that they were taking steps in admitting what they feel for the other. But the bulk of the story was Kira and Ender whom I enjoyed as much as Remy and Haley in book 1.
Kudos to the authors for managing to make the heavy emphasis on sex work because the sex is tied to the character’s gifts. So they aren’t solely having sex for pleasure. I really like this series and can’t wait to read book 3.

Quit: “Two of my guys quit suddenly a couple of weeks ago.” (Pg. 8)
Pie: “She’d been cleaning, cooking and baking fruit cobblers nut tarts, cookies.” (Pg. 227)

Book choice: Red Dragon Red Dragon (Hannibal Lecter, #1) by Thomas Harris by Thomas Harris

My Letter: T
Date Finished: 9/11/13
Rating ★★★★

Review: Red Dragon lived up to it's reputation and I truly enjoyed it. The characters were 3 dimensional and believable. The dialogue rang true. The plot was compelling and moved the story along at a good pace. Action scenes were good too. I liked Will Graham, but he was almost overdone with so much brooding and darkness, almost too damaged, but note I said 'almost.' I really liked Reba too. I was just a bit disappointed with the ending (view spoiler) That being said I did like it and the little things were so little that they didn't ruin it for me or lead me to frustration. I will read the next in the series. I would recommend Red Dragon and might even read it again.
