Andrew | 5 comments Hi, I’m Andrew, a writer and doctor. My second novel, Fortunate, (just released) is about a semi-bereaved young GP who runs away from home to accidently become a ‘heroine’ of a revolution. Then complications set in.

It’s also about lost love, lost land, and … may be … their re-finding.

My first novel, The Ghosts of Eden, was shortlisted for the 2011 International Rubery Book Award and won the 2010 Waverton Good Read Award . I've tried to make Fortunate another absorbing read. Do let me know if you agree, or even disagree. Once released, a novel is no longer the author's own. Readers enter its imaginative landscape to be enchanted, or bored, or intrigued, or shocked, or ... . For a writer, all comment/conversation is welcome after the long solitude of writing 100,000 words in what feels like a lonely cave.

Both books are set in sub-Saharan Africa. If you ever visit Uganda, take a canoe out to the beautiful Njuyera-Sharp Island on Lake Bunyoni where you will find the ghosts of my grandparents' garden. The story of the island is told briefly here.

Fortunate is set in Zimbabwe where I have worked.

I have a blog here on Goodreads: Andrew's blog

Andrew | 5 comments Thanks for your welcome, Karen. I have just passed on your website details to a friend who loves any book/novel set in or to do with gardens. I've just started the Kindle version of 'Gardens - an essay on the Human Condition' by Robert Harrison. Sounds heavy and academic but there are some gems in its pages about gardens and what they mean to us.

I lived/worked in Uganda for three years so your stuff looks interesting to me.

Andrew | 5 comments Thanks for your interest Patti. I hope you'd find some familiar places amongst the pages of The Ghosts of Eden! There's Kampala, the area around Mbarara and the Rwenzori Mountains.
