Did you anticipate Reyes appearing to grab the bullet out of mid air? Why do you think Charley is so afraid to use the key to his apartment? Where does Cookies fear of shooting a gun in front of other people come from?

I was hoping that Reyes would make an appearance! He's pretty good at knowing when Charley is in danger. :-)

Ah, why is Charley hesitant to use that key? She is afraid that he is the arsonist and is keeping her distance?

I think most people have a fear of shooting a gun. I know I would choke. I held one in my hands once and it was terrifying!

Brandy (grim_darkling) | 70 comments I think in the back of my mind I'm always expecting Reyes to come save Charley. And I'm always happy when he makes an appearance ;)

I think Charley is afraid to use the key because she knows getting closer to him while suspecting him to be the arsonist is too conflicting. And maybe she doesn't know how to feel about seeing him in his own space and on his turf. Also, I think she might be afraid of her feelings for him, because they are so strong.

I too agree with there being a general fear for people shooting a gun. Most ppl don't know everything they need to know about them and that can be scary. I know I am afraid, mostly because they are so dangerous.

Ines (slayraa) | 684 comments Coming from a country where it's quite hard to get a gun or actually see a gun, I completely understand Cookie in her fear, just don't get why she would own a gun. If I ever see a real gun, I'm not even sure on how to react.

I agree with Brandy, it's conflicting and it's Reyes' space. Not to mention that she always tries to evade him (which is a thing that changed and made me love this book even more). He gets so into her that she just avoids him, I think I can understand that, it's like she loses herself around him.

I always anticipate Reyes appearing when Charley is in trouble, which means I get disappointed a lot! lol

I had a feeling that Reyes was close by, now that he's able he going to stay as close to Charley as he can get. Which is going to be a good thing since she still doesn't have full control of her powers.

The key...part of it's because she's conflicted because she suspects he might be the arsonists. And the other part is she doesn't want it to be all on Reyes terms.

Shooting the gun...like you all have said it's a scary thing to pull the trigger. To hold life and death in your hands. I actually have my concealed carry license and have been through the class just like Cookie has. I got my license after a woman I worked with was attacked and my husband and I both took the class. They do teach you that you should never draw a gun unless you have to and are prepared to use it. For me, the only time I could imagine actually using a gun would be for defense of my loved ones, but I have doubts that I would actually be able to use it. I'm a pretty good shot at a target, but an actual person...I just don't know.

Stephanie (thirstyflea) | 223 comments I LOVE that he caught the bullet in his hand, so sexy, so Reyes....

I agree about the key with you all- a combination of the arson case, but also using that as an excuse to keep her distance from Reyes, on his terms, on his turf. They barely know each other and are wildly attracted to each other, I think Charley fears "the next step".

I don't blame Cookie's fear of firing a gun- that's some serious stuff, and she's just not a gun kind of person. But I understand why she wants one- how else is she supposed to try to protect her daughter and her supernatural best friend? She's reaching, ya know? She doesn't know what else to do- everything that Charley has been through, and Cookie hasn't been able to "help". I'm not a gun person, but believe if someone has to have one, they sure better be trained every which way possible to avoid accidents. I like that Cookie's class is on gun safety- so perfect.

Meredith Moore | 2 comments I agree with Stephanie about the key. I think that the key represents a new level to their relationship. That means full access all the time. As far as Cookie and the gun issue. I think that she just doesn't want Charley to always have to be the protector, she wants to be able to keep everyone safe too.

Stephanie and Meredith- You both nailed it! I agree completely!

Meigan I kind of expected Reyes to appear, not that I a mindreader or anything. Anytime Charley's life is threatened, he naturally appears. Gives me goosebumps, that one...

As far as the key is concerned, I would think Charley would be hesitant based on their history. Every time things seem to be going right between them, some force or outside factor seems to interfere and Charley steps back. Maybe she doesn't want to get too close too fast because things are finally starting to settle for them and they are on good terms for now.
