It is ourselves, not technology, that cause issues. Because we are afraid to turn shit off.

In a short answer, I would say because society is generally pessimistic about the future, unfortunately. I would honestly like to see a dystopia where not everything was doom and gloom, merely trying to improve upon society (a sort of hash between utopia and dystopia, I suppose; I'm sure those exist somewhere).
