edelweiss is much more difficult to navigate. It took me ages to work it out.

Tati I'm not requesting anything else for now LOL Still have some 25 requests pending (most will be probably denied, but still)

Good luck Tatiana ☺ I have loads pending but I think I'm going to get declined because I'm not in the US.

message 306: by Jacquelyn (new)

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) I requested some books on Edelweiss but have no idea how I would find out if I was accepted for them or not.. Help?

message 307: by Sarah Elizabeth (new)

Sarah Elizabeth (bookworm_sarah) | 90950 comments Mod
If you go to the page where the review copies are listed -

On the left hand side, under the tabs you'll see three smaller tabs - 'titles' 'downloads' 'requests'
click on requests, and it will bring you to a page with a list of all your requests, and information on whether they have been approved/declined/ or still pending ☺

message 308: by Jacquelyn (new)

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) Thank you so much!!!

message 309: by Mei (last edited Jan 26, 2014 05:40AM) (new)

Mei (meijey) | 3810 comments Hmm..Edelweiss is not exactly user-friendly, so is there a way to edit your profile details when you first signed up? How can I increase the chances of being accepted? I don't know how their system works since I'm a newbie. LOL. Thanks for the help!

message 310: by Jacquelyn (new)

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) I am not so sure myself.. Yeah, it isn't that user-friendly. Sarah probably knows!

message 311: by Mei (new)

Mei (meijey) | 3810 comments I actually found it! In Administration. Hahaha. I'd just like to know if I could update my links -- goodreads and those kinds of websites. Anyway, thanks Jacquelyn!

message 312: by Sarah Elizabeth (new)

Sarah Elizabeth (bookworm_sarah) | 90950 comments Mod
The only way I've found to edit details is to change them in the box that pops up when you request a title or submit a review. I haven't found another way!

You're right about it not being user friendly either, and unlike Netgalley there's no way to know which publishers can only approve requests from US citizens or anything - believe me I've tried!

The only way I've found to get accepted more on edelweiss is to keep up to date with reviews. WhenI have 20 outstanding, I get no new review copies. If I can get it down to 2 outstanding, then I get some requests approved. There really is no way that I've found to work out what publishers want or who they're likely to approve. it kinda sucks.

message 313: by Mei (last edited Jan 26, 2014 06:05AM) (new)

Mei (meijey) | 3810 comments Wow, I have now proven that this website is hard to figure out compared to NetGalley. It's like they don't want their users to. Haha! And I'm from Asia, so that's decreasing my chances now, Lol!

What do you mean by 20 outstanding? Like, reviews pending, waiting to be written?

Thanks for your help Sarah!

message 314: by Sarah Elizabeth (new)

Sarah Elizabeth (bookworm_sarah) | 90950 comments Mod
Yes - reviews not yet submitted. I've been getting through them, but I still have 10 outstanding, so I'm not expecting any approvals any time soon!

message 315: by Jacquelyn (new)

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) Yeah, I really have to read all the ones from Edelweiss but I am in a reading slump and ugh. I will get through it though! (:

It is a website where you an request books that haven't come out yet in exchange for a review. They are free but it does cost a review. I am super bad at explaining Edelweiss so hopefully someone else can help you!

Here's the link for edelweiss: http://edelweiss.abovethetreeline.com/

I think you have to create an account and get it approved before you can look at which titles they have available to request ☺

I got it, but they didn't respond to me until after the book had already come out and I had already purchased a physical copy. Oh well!

message 329: by Dana (new)

Dana | 887 comments Do you guys just copy/paste your goodreads profile onto your netgalley profile? I cant request books yet because I haven't filled out my profile but I feel like my goodreads profile is too informal for a site for "professional readers"

message 330: by Sarah Elizabeth (new)

Sarah Elizabeth (bookworm_sarah) | 90950 comments Mod
You need to put a link to your goodreads profile, but in your netgalley profile you should try to sell yourself as a reviewer - let them know how many books you have so far reviewed, how many followers you have on goodreads/twitter/your blog/facebook etc.and anything else that may convince a publisher to let you read their book ☺

Sure! But I only have time in April, if that's okay?

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments Hey guys! I set up a Netgalley account and want to start reading a few Read Now books to look better when I start to request from publishers only problem is that I cannot find my kindle email address. Do I really need it? Otherwise, how else do they send you the books? Thanks. I am sorry this is probably a really stupid question but I am lost!! :)

From your home screen, tap the little gear in the upper right (settings).
Tap, More...
Tap, My Account

Your kindle account should be listed under the device name 'something'@kindle.com

If you have more questions, with your account you can contact Kindle directly.

message 339: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments @Kurt Yeah! I found it. Thanks so much. It wasn't exactly like you said (I don't have a gear button thingy) but I figured it out. Netgalley's instructions weren't even close how to find it so thanks a lot!! :)

Awesome! What book did you get?

message 342: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments I got Dead Ringers Volumes 1-3 (Dead Ringers, #1-3) by Darlene Gardner . I just finished the first book and it was okay. Not anything great but alright. :)

message 343: by Dana (new)

Dana | 887 comments Oh it was a short book? I just got The Lost Sisterhood by Anne Fortier

message 344: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments Its pretty sure. It has three books in it and I just finished the first one. I think its about 100 pages a book? :)

That's sounds good! Lucky you! I am trying to read a few "read now"s before requesting something! :)

message 345: by Dana (new)

Dana | 887 comments Am I a snob for thinking the read nows' are probably of lesser quality then the requested ones?

message 346: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments @Dana I don't know! I think they might be. I won't say that is snobby though!! :) A friend said that reading and reviewing them is a great way to start and make the Netgalley publishers' like you more. :) Some of the books sound really good. :)

message 347: by Sarah Elizabeth (new)

Sarah Elizabeth (bookworm_sarah) | 90950 comments Mod
I've read some really good 'read now' books, and some really bad ones. Monsters (Ashes Trilogy, #3) by Ilsa J. Bick & Defy (Defy, #1) by Sara B. Larson were both 'read now' and I loved both of them ☺ Escaping Reality (The Secret Life of Amy Bensen, #1) by Lisa Renee Jones was pretty good too ☺

message 348: by Abi (new)

Abi (abi_gr) | 27659 comments Dead Silent (Poppy Sinclair, #2) by Sharon Jones was an okay "read now" too. :)

message 349: by rachel, x (new)

Sometimes it's really surprising what is on there as a 'read now'!
