message 2601: by Tati (last edited May 14, 2016 08:39AM) (new)

Tati Nah, Edelweiss is not for me. I'm much happier with NetGalley. I tried Edelweiss a couple of times, without much success, so I deleted my account and decided to stick with NetGalley.

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments @Jennifer - Exactly! It's 100% easier to get approved on Edelweiss than Netgalley. It doesn't work on a ratio or stats. I swear it's 100% what you write about wanting to read that book. And it's really not that difficult to navigate once you're used to it.

@Tati - I did the opposite! I deleted my Netgalley account because it was too much bother. They're virtually the same anyway so it's more about what suits you.

message 2603: by Tati (new)

Tati I''ve almost begged for a book on Edelweiss and didn't get it. Never felt that what I wrote mattered, and that made me give up on Edelweiss

message 2604: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments @Tati - Really? Oh. I don't know what gets me approved then. My blog isn't that big and it's not my ratio because it'd be like -10% ATM!

Irena BookDustMagic | 1344 comments I'm same as Tati here.
Begged for books four times, got approved zero times and then gave up.

I have more luck with Netgalley. I think I've been more times approved there then declined, and now and then I got wishes granted.

I'll stick to Netgalley and will delete my Edelweiss acc (I'd do that before if I knew it was possibe).

message 2606: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments I'm really confused by Edelweiss now. I have no idea what their approval requirements are. Of the 150+ books I would have been approved of, I've literally only be declined three or four times. That's why I love it so much!

message 2607: by Irena BookDustMagic (new)

Irena BookDustMagic | 1344 comments I don't know.
maybe I am just not good when it comes to presenting myself in that message that you send to publishers when sending a request.

Rachel, can you please just post briefly what do you write in your message so I could compare?
I would really appreciate it.

message 2608: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments Maybe that's it?

And sure, it's the least I can do! I normally just state why I want to read the book - maybe I've loved previous books by that author before (I'll occasionally link that review, if I have), or all my friends love it, or because I love that genre. If there's an obvious pitch to the book (like they're saying its for fan of Marissa Meyer or a "Gone Girl meets the Maze Runner thriller"), I'll mention that and say that it feels like it's been pitched directly at me (so they know I'll most likely enjoy it). I also make sure to sound super enthusiastic, every time, so they know how badly I want to read it.

Oh, and I make sure to post my reviews on there all the time. Even if I didn't have a review copy of the book. You can search for books, kind of like Goodreads, in the search bar, and I just link up all my reviews, all the time.

Hope that's helpful!

Irena BookDustMagic | 1344 comments ohh, thanks!
I never even tought about posting my reviews in request.
Thanks, maybe I'll give Edelweiss one more chance before deleting it, and would try to compose my request in similar way you are doing it, with links.

Thanks Rachel! :)
You're really sweet and helpful.

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments Naww, thanks Irena! I hop it works out for you. HarperCollins dropped some galleys a few days ago so you might have a chance with them. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

They are actually the ones who declined me but I'll try my luck again.
There's nothing to lose, if they don't approve it's like I didn't even request the book and that's it. :)

I do the same as Rachel. I sometimes submit reviews for books that i was not approved for. And I explain why i want to read the book, if i love the author, what books i've read. and then i make sure to always submit the review before the release date.

This doesn't work for all publishers. There are some publishers that don't accept or decline and just leave your request pending.

I also like that you can request the book more than once. So if you don't hear anything back you can send another request.

I don't even have a blog just review a ton on goodreads. And I get accepted a lot on edelweiss.

message 2614: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 47 comments I always get accepted for Harper Collins but have heard it is not as easy for some. I think once you are in with them then they approve you for everything. But not really sure how you get in with them other than to maybe submit some reviews for their books that you were not approved for. Then they can see what your reviews are like.

message 2615: by Tati (new)

Tati Rachel, I did what you suggested, posted reviews for the books I could find on Edelweiss, wrote why I wanted the book, to no avail.

As it's pretty difficult for me to get turned down on NetGalley, I deided to focus on NetGalley and let Edelweiss go.

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4452 comments Have you tried requesting off EW from Simon and Schooster? They are the only ones that have a prove me without it being for a blog tour.

Thanks Jennifer!

Maybe that is the case, maybe if you wrote some reviews and they tought they were good, then maybe they approve you based on their experience with you.

I'll try to follow your advices and see what they'll say.
