rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments @Irena Never had that problem before but its why I always check the descriptions to see of it says "only ePub and PDF" or something. Then I just don't request it.

@Tati Lucky you! I have been meaning to read Stolen Songbird (The Malediction Trilogy, #1) by Danielle L. Jensen for ages!

Stolen Songbird is my favorite read of 2015!

Irena BookDustMagic | 1344 comments Sorry girls, I won't be able participate in a buddy read tomorrow because I'm going on a short trip tomorrow morning and I simply won't have enough time. I'll read it at my own pace then ...

Ah, too bad. But I think we can still discuss it, even though we read at different pace :)

Enjoy your trip, Irena!

message 2213: by Irena BookDustMagic (new)

Irena BookDustMagic | 1344 comments Thanks Rachmi! I'll definitely check the thread when I come back on Friday and discuss it with you guys. You'll probably already be done with it by then, though...

Irena BookDustMagic | 1344 comments I got approved for The Secrets She Keeps.
I'm so happy because I didn't think I would but I requested it anyway couse I wanted to read it.

Guys, there's something I noticed: since I uploaded my picture in the profile I feel like I got more approvals.

I always had my blog button as my profile picture ☺ I hope you like the book!

message 2220: by Dory (new)

Dory (fishthatreads) @Irena it could be to show you care about how your account looks like, you are building your profile, not there for the one book to get it over with. Heck, I'd trust a profile with a picture more than one without. More welcoming, unique and such.

message 2221: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments @Irene Aha! I feel like that sometimes but I always give it a go. May as well! :)

@Irena Good for you! I hope I do too. Updated on Netgalley or Edelweiss?

message 2222: by Irena BookDustMagic (new)

Irena BookDustMagic | 1344 comments @Rachel On Netgalley. I don't have Edelweiss account so every book I post I got is via Netgalley.

message 2223: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments @Irena I thought so! I didn't think Edelweiss had account pictures so I got confused. :)

message 2225: by Rachmi (last edited Mar 24, 2015 07:23PM) (new)

Rachmi | 4882 comments So I just was declined by Entangled Publishing, they said in their email via NetGalley that there are two criteria for approving requests: 1) does the requester have stats listed in their profile, and if so 2) have they reached their reviewer quota for that title yet?

What I want to ask you guys is what does stats listed in reviewer profile mean? I already include how many friends I have in GoodReads, how many followers I have in my blog (not much, though) and etc. Doesn't it count as stats? or it isn't enough for the publisher?

I'd think that was enough, but I have no idea if that's correct or not. I think it depends on the publisher...

message 2228: by Marga (new)

Marga (margaraawr) | 1550 comments Some publishers also wanted number of page views and comments (though I didn't put any). Sometimes, they need specific number of followers, too.

message 2229: by Marga (new)

Marga (margaraawr) | 1550 comments I second, Irene. :)

message 2230: by Rachmi (new)

Rachmi | 4882 comments I think so too, Irene. But it's quite confusing for me whenever they decline and stated their reason. I feel like what I already put on my profile isn't enough :D

message 2231: by Irene (new)

Irene (raenne) | 4856 comments It could just be that they're out of arcs or that they don't think you have enough followers :) Or you just didn't get lucky. It's kind of a lottery from time to time ;)

message 2232: by Rachmi (new)

Rachmi | 4882 comments Marga wrote: "Some publishers also wanted number of page views and comments (though I didn't put any). Sometimes, they need specific number of followers, too."

Page views and comments? I never heard of it before. It'll take a lot of effort if I put it on my Bio because it means that I have to update it regularly, right?

message 2233: by Marga (new)

Marga (margaraawr) | 1550 comments I think most of publishers indicate what they're looking for in a blog. But yeah, sometimes you just got lucky. :)

message 2234: by Rachmi (new)

Rachmi | 4882 comments True! I tend to avoid big publishers because they often decline me or publishers that almost always decline me in the past. But then once in a while I just can't help myself if I really want to read books they have :D Just like five minutes ago, St. Martin's Press approved my request of Delicate Monsters by Stephanie Kuehn .

message 2235: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4452 comments Rachmi: if you update your page views and other stats every other week or every month it should be enough.

message 2236: by Rachmi (new)

Rachmi | 4882 comments Jackie wrote: "Rachmi: if you update your page views and other stats every other week or every month it should be enough."

The problem is I rarely update my bio, maybe once in three to four months :D Because there isn't much differences in each month. But I think I'll try every month now, as you suggested.

message 2237: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments @Rachmi A lot of publishers want average monthly views (on your blog) and ave. comment numbers. It helps them to see if you get a lot of publicity. The higher your stats, the more likely you'll get approved. I update my bio once every three months or so and leave a "updated last: [date]" comment at the bottom so they know how recent the stats are. :)

message 2238: by Rachmi (new)

Rachmi | 4882 comments @Rachel, It makes sense, I think. Do you just write your average monthly views and comment numbers in your bio just like you write how many followers you have on your blog?

message 2239: by Irena BookDustMagic (new)

Irena BookDustMagic | 1344 comments @Rachmi I think in this case they reached the number of arcs provided via Netgalley.
I'm not sure though but in my case I don't have any stats on my bio but I still got approved by them.
It could be differen kind of criteria though because I view books manly to find ones that could do well in my country.
I do review them and I still don't have book blog (but I will have pretty soon though) and if you look at my profile my stats are not that impressive at all.

message 2240: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments @Rachmi Yes. I just add those stats to my bio.

@Irena I agree. I only have my stats on my Edelweiss account. My Netgalley one is pretty bare.

Yes, I think in my case it's mostly because the number of arcs they provided. It's just that stats thing is new for me.

At first, the main thing that I have to keep in mind is the ratio. And I always try to keep it in at least 80% but then it doesn't guarantee my approval either. I guess I'll never know which one they approve or decline :)

message 2242: by Dory (new)

Dory (fishthatreads) 1) I got my first auto-approval, not a big publisher. But still. Its something to me :)

2) Im trying my best to raise my read-to-review ratio as high as I can, but yesterday I got like 6 long waited approvals and now I am filled to the brim.. and then there are the library books *looks at the stack*. Being a biblio-addict is a pain.

3) But it has been growing.. almost 60% on NetGalley, and 100% on Edelweiss (I only got two books there).

4) I wish that when you got declined, they were more specific why. Instead of emailing us an entire list, couldnt NetGalley/Edelweiss offer like a multiple choice thing? I just want to know why when I dont get approved.

5) What do you just mean by stats on your bio?

6) I have a book blog, but I kinda gave up on it. I bookstagram though, @fishThatReads :)

message 2243: by Irene (new)

Irene (raenne) | 4856 comments Number 4 is actually a pretty good idea that wouldn't take too long for the publishers.

It does look good, and has such a pretty cover!

I'm pretty much completely free apart from the GBR's, but I can't do saturdays. (11th, 18th, 25th) Do you have a date in mind? :)

Irene (raenne) | 4856 comments I can do today, 10th, 12th, 15-17th, 19th, 21-24th, 26-30th. So yeah, pretty open as well. You decide :)

How's the 12th, then? :)
