Pam (tinypami) Magonia is on Edelweiss :D I didn't know this site before reading this topic so thanks! I hope they're going to accept my request *-*

They're pretty lenient, to me at least. Out of the fifty or more books I have requested I have only been denied twice.

Dana | 887 comments I would use edelweiss but its so bloody complicated. I dont even know how to edit any "about me" section as when i made the profile ages ago i didnt include anything in it. I figured I could flesh it out later but everytime i log on to this site i find its awkward interface rage inducing. Guess ill be missing out on that book.

Yeah I don't like Edelweiss. They hardly ever bother accepting or denying me. But I like Netgalley's updated site. I don't know how to use Edelweiss, so if anyone's up for giving me a tutorial, go for it XD

message 1756: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments I find Edelweiss much easier to use. Much. I don't even use Netgalley anymore. Its gotten too complicated and just annoying. I always get accepted on Edelweiss and I love writing why we want to request them. :)

You can change your about me whenever you request a book. It took me forever to figure out ... You update it and it stays the same for every book you request, unless you decide to change it again.

I just requested a couple from Edelweiss today for the first time in awhile, but I really prefer Netgalley. It's so much simpler to use, and I get approved more often, too.

Rachel, how do you get accepted for them from Edelweiss? Is it just what you write about each book or what? And what kind of things do you put in your review?

message 1759: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 47 comments I also prefer Edelweiss and get accepted there more. You just go to the main page. Click on "review copies". Then you can click on "request digital RC" (the blue button).

You put a description of who you are (and it does save it for next time). Then you can write why you want the book. I love this feature because it lets me explain.

I just say why I want to read the book, if it's an author i am familiar with i say what books i've read. If it's a new author i might say that i've heard good things about the book. I just briefly explain why i want to read the book. And then i make sure to follow through with the reviews.

Edelweiss has their books out way in advance. So it gives me way more time to make sure i read the books before publication.

message 1760: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 53702 comments Mod
Is there a specific time limit on the books?

message 1761: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 47 comments Do you mean when are you supposed to review them? Or do you mean do they disappear off your e-reader?

Right now they have books for june. So they are way ahead. I personally try to review them the month before they come out.

They don't disappear off my kindle. Not sure about Nook or other e-readers.

But they do want bloggers or reviewers. So if you don't have a blog or have not reviewed before on goodreads I'm not sure how that works.

I ditto what Jennifer said about what she says and I don't know why I get approved. I just checked my stats and its turns out I've only been rejected twice out of 55 requests (I got accepted all the other times) but I have only returned reviews three times at the moment. I just haven't had the time to read any of them yet. :)

message 1763: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 53702 comments Mod
Okay. Because Netgalley lets you have the book for 55 days before taking it away and then you need to re-download it if it hasn't been archived.

And yeah, updating my blog is the most annoying thing. Actually no, scratch that. Writing the review is the worst. What kind of things do you guys say? What do you comment on?

message 1764: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 47 comments I also love writing why I want the book. I am crazy like that.

If you want here are the books i've gotten from edelweiss. Feel free to look at the reviews for the ones i've read.

I guess writing why wouldn't be so bad. Can I just say 'the cover looks good?' XD

It says your shelf is private.

message 1768: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 47 comments Also edelweiss lets you post reviews for books that you were not accepted for. So I have done that to up my reviews.

message 1769: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 53702 comments Mod
How are you bothered to do that?

message 1770: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 47 comments Maddison wrote: "It says your shelf is private."

Are you sure? It shouldn't be. But if you can't see it and want to just send me a friend request.

message 1771: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 53702 comments Mod
Okay I'll do that :)

message 1772: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 47 comments Maddison wrote: "How are you bothered to do that?"

I don't do it often. But I have done it a few times for publishers that I wanted to approve me. When I first started I wanted to better my chances of getting accepted. Now a few of the publishers know me and accept me for all of their books.

message 1773: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 53702 comments Mod
Wow that's awesome. I really want to see what kind of reviews you write.

message 1774: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 47 comments Does anybody know why my shelves show up as private? I am curious. Do people have to be my goodreads friends to view the shelves?

Oh don't get too excited. The reviews are not so great. i have seen people who spend hours with amazing graphics and content.

message 1775: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 53702 comments Mod
I don't know.

Haha I just can never be bothered reviewing.

message 1776: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments Jennifer you probably have your whole profile set so that only your GR friends can view it. You can change it to public, only GR users, only GR friends or never available. :)

message 1777: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 47 comments Rachel wrote: "Jennifer you probably have your whole profile set so that only your GR friends can view it. You can change it to public, only GR users, only GR friends or never available. :)"

Thanks. I was going to check this out today and you made it much easier. I changed it to any goodreads users. I must have made that profile years ago. I really had no idea I did that.

message 1778: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments It doesn't really matter unless you want people to be able to see your shelves. :)

message 1779: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 47 comments Rachel wrote: "It doesn't really matter unless you want people to be able to see your shelves. :)"

Well I hate when I go to someone's profile and it shows set to private. So i'm sort of annoyed that it has been that way. Plus I have done some Best Ofs last week where I posted my shelves. So I'm pretty mad (at myself) that most people couldn't see my choices. Thanks for your help.

message 1780: by Dana (new)

Dana | 887 comments Thanks for the info guys. I do like that you can write why you want a book, although I also like the idea of just writing a bio and leaving it. I can confirm that for ebook galleys, only Kindle lets you keep them. Thank God I have a kindle or I would be pretty annoyed. Yes its cool to read books in advance but if you only get to "rent" them, then I feel that they are getting more from you then you are from them.

Also just to confirm, does this mean that you don't have any info of yourself on Edelweiss, you just write your reason for request and reviewer stats in the request box?

message 1781: by Sarah Elizabeth (new)

Sarah Elizabeth (bookworm_sarah) | 90956 comments Mod
There are 2 boxes when you request a title, one for your info, and one for specific reasons why you want to read that particular book. the box with info about yourself is saved so that you don't have to put it in again for every book you request ☺

message 1782: by Dana (new)

Dana | 887 comments OKay thanks Sarah! Also is it like Netgalley where it is emailed directly to your kindle? ( sorry for all the questions)

message 1783: by Sarah Elizabeth (new)

Sarah Elizabeth (bookworm_sarah) | 90956 comments Mod
Yes, you can either download to your computer (like netgalley which expire), or send directly to your kindle (which you get to keep) ☺

I want a Kindle!

message 1785: by Dana (new)

Dana | 887 comments They were on sale for boxing week, think that's over but even regular price you can pick one up for around $80.

message 1786: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments @Jennifer All's good. As long as you got your profile how you want it now. :)

I should probably stop requesting too, I have loads again. Going to take some real work to get through them all!

Same but some of them look so good.

Tati The only one I requested was denied, so I'm still with only 12 ARCs (be jealous, Sarah LOL)

I had gotten so good at getting through them all, now I'm snowed under again. Just can't stop myself from clicking that little 'request' button. It's an addiction.

These Violent Delights (Robin) | 779 comments Seeker (Seeker, #1) by Arwen Elys Dayton is on Netgalley and it's currently available as read now, until it reaches 500 then its request

message 1799: by Tati (new)

Tati I've gotten more selective with the ones I request. And there's not many things catching my eye on NetGalley lately

message 1800: by Tati (new)

Tati Robin, I tried to read that, but I DNF.
