I would use edelweiss but its so bloody complicated. I dont even know how to edit any "about me" section as when i made the profile ages ago i didnt include anything in it. I figured I could flesh it out later but everytime i log on to this site i find its awkward interface rage inducing. Guess ill be missing out on that book.

I find Edelweiss much easier to use. Much. I don't even use Netgalley anymore. Its gotten too complicated and just annoying. I always get accepted on Edelweiss and I love writing why we want to request them. :)

You update it and it stays the same for every book you request, unless you decide to change it again.
I just requested a couple from Edelweiss today for the first time in awhile, but I really prefer Netgalley. It's so much simpler to use, and I get approved more often, too.

I also prefer Edelweiss and get accepted there more. You just go to the main page. Click on "review copies". Then you can click on "request digital RC" (the blue button).You put a description of who you are (and it does save it for next time). Then you can write why you want the book. I love this feature because it lets me explain.
I just say why I want to read the book, if it's an author i am familiar with i say what books i've read. If it's a new author i might say that i've heard good things about the book. I just briefly explain why i want to read the book. And then i make sure to follow through with the reviews.
Edelweiss has their books out way in advance. So it gives me way more time to make sure i read the books before publication.

Do you mean when are you supposed to review them? Or do you mean do they disappear off your e-reader?Right now they have books for june. So they are way ahead. I personally try to review them the month before they come out.
They don't disappear off my kindle. Not sure about Nook or other e-readers.
But they do want bloggers or reviewers. So if you don't have a blog or have not reviewed before on goodreads I'm not sure how that works.

I just checked my stats and its turns out I've only been rejected twice out of 55 requests (I got accepted all the other times) but I have only returned reviews three times at the moment. I just haven't had the time to read any of them yet. :)

And yeah, updating my blog is the most annoying thing. Actually no, scratch that. Writing the review is the worst. What kind of things do you guys say? What do you comment on?

Also edelweiss lets you post reviews for books that you were not accepted for. So I have done that to up my reviews.

Does anybody know why my shelves show up as private? I am curious. Do people have to be my goodreads friends to view the shelves?Oh don't get too excited. The reviews are not so great. i have seen people who spend hours with amazing graphics and content.

Jennifer you probably have your whole profile set so that only your GR friends can view it. You can change it to public, only GR users, only GR friends or never available. :)

I was going to check this out today and you made it much easier. I changed it to any goodreads users. I must have made that profile years ago. I really had no idea I did that.
It doesn't really matter unless you want people to be able to see your shelves. :)

So i'm sort of annoyed that it has been that way. Plus I have done some Best Ofs last week where I posted my shelves. So I'm pretty mad (at myself) that most people couldn't see my choices. Thanks for the info guys. I do like that you can write why you want a book, although I also like the idea of just writing a bio and leaving it. I can confirm that for ebook galleys, only Kindle lets you keep them. Thank God I have a kindle or I would be pretty annoyed. Yes its cool to read books in advance but if you only get to "rent" them, then I feel that they are getting more from you then you are from them. Also just to confirm, does this mean that you don't have any info of yourself on Edelweiss, you just write your reason for request and reviewer stats in the request box?

They were on sale for boxing week, think that's over but even regular price you can pick one up for around $80.

The only one I requested was denied, so I'm still with only 12 ARCs (be jealous, Sarah LOL)

I've gotten more selective with the ones I request. And there's not many things catching my eye on NetGalley lately
