Yes, I was approved for one (before the flags) and then got told off for downloading it because I wasn't in the US and had broken their territory rights. Got a right telling off from the pubicist when it was her who had approved me! Got told that because I was the one who had actually downloaded it I was the one in the wrong!

Then why did they approve you in the first place?!
That was my question. they obviously didn't read my profile as it clerly says that I am in the UK.

Not really true. If you click the 'read now' and it is not listed as for your country, you are in theory breaking the publishers territory rights, and they don't take kindly to that. I wouldn't risk it personally, especially not after the telling off i got before.

I don't do "read now" that often. And most of the ones I've seen don't specify the country. I live in Canada and have been approved for titles from publishers in the UK before (for example).
I really feel like if they don't want people to click on the "read now" then they shouldn't put it there in the first place (or mark that people not in the country should not click on the book).

Okay. I won't do it then! I really wanted Red Rising but I don't want to risk breaking the law or whatever.

Good job. Congrats!

Maybe just don't read it and instead of a review just message them saying it was accident and you are really sorry and have deleted off your kindle and all that. :)

Well done! :)

I would say that this is a perfect opportunity to read it :) After all the review will be posted on the Internet, so worldwide support. At least this is how I see it.

Out-of-region requests will likely be declined due to territory rights."
This is what it says on my page.
IMO they should either decline, make it "read now" to specific countries or simple just write "Only for members in the US" or something like that. Preferred. What kind of word is that! That's just my opinion though.
And yay Tatiana! :D I was there, but I'm up to 11 again..... Haha :D

Hmm, I just took a look at the terms of use, but couldn't find it. Whre did you find it? :)

This link also says that you can request books out of region and it is up to the publisher to approve you or not so I am thinking if you do get approved, it would be the publishers fault.

Thanks :) I found the latter myself though :)

I'm a bit confused towards the territory rights.
If a title is available as Read Now, but says:
"Members in Australia are preferred.
Out-of-region requests will likely be declined due to territory rights."
-Does that mean I can legally download, read and review the book even though I'm not in Australia? (Australia's an example here)
If I request a book that is "Australia are preferred," but I still get accepted, can I legally download, read and review that book?
Thanks in advance,
Irene
Hi Irene - That messaging on the title page is referring to actually Requesting the title. Since most publishers have rights for a title in a particular territory, that means they can't always approve readers outside of that territory. BUT, if you are accepted then you're certainly welcome to download and read the title since the publisher gave you permission by approving your request.
-I asked them on facebook, but am not sure if you can see the link :) https://www.facebook.com/NetGalley/po...
hmm, maybe they should tell Merit Press that then. they're quite happy to shift the blame if their territory rights are breached, even if it was them who approved you.

Yeah, sounds like they should take a look at the terms of use :|
How do you write a good BIO for netgalley when your getting declined.

If you're getting denied I would look at your ratio as well and see if that's it. I've found that I normally get denied because of it.

The numbers help, but I don't think the ration is that important... WHen I was around 60% is when I got the more approvals.

Now, though, I'm finding NetGalley to be really slow, both in title addition and approval decisions.

My percentage is now finally at 90% and I have been getting declined a lot.

I'm just about to read it now. I'll probably spend the rest of the night reading it :)

I'm sorry! I was shocked to see the email.

When I Hunt Killers went Read Now on Netgalley, I added it and requested its sequel and finale. I receieved both Book 1 and 3 but denied book 2.
Now Game (book 2) is Read Now and it's been added to my Netgalley shelf, but I can't download it because it still says request declined.. that's not fair.

I wonder why they would deny you for book 2 if they gave you the rest? I've never had the problem with the declined switching to read now so I have no idea if there's a solution :(
