They can check lots of things, that's why its always best to have your profile up-to-date, and to include numbers like followers on goodreads/blog/twitter/facebook etc.

yeah they meant friends/followers on your blog or Goodreads profile. Also be sure to add if you make top reviewer ect in your country.
