Thanks, Natalie! I've been pondering the idea for a while, but just today ran it by the other mods. I hope it turns out to be a great feature for the group.
Maybe if the other mods - and everyone else agree - we could even do this for Christian Fiction series? I guess it all depends on how many BotMs everyone would like to see on here...
And great choice, Natalie. I've been wanting to read that series for a while!
I think I'll nominate The Amish Midwife, book one in the Women of Lancaster County.

@Natalie: I think we're gonna suspend the author rule, at least for the first month. That way, it would be easier to get the Group Read set up... I guess I can always nominate another if the other mods want to do it differently.
That's the fun of starting my own suggestion - I can bend the rules from time to time. =P

If we do the author thing I think it should only apply to the series read and not have anything to do with the Amish read . So since we have not had any author in this group then we could nominate any.
I like this and will think about a series. Personally I like the random drawing. It gives everyone a chance.

@Lorie - I think that's fair.
If everyone likes using Random.org, we can certainly use that. I just know that a lot of other groups use the poll to choose group reads and I figured I'd just throw it out there as an option. =)

A Promise for Miriam by Vannetta Chapman, The Pebble Creek series. I think the third one in that series just came out last week or so.

I would like to nominate:
The Secret by Beverly Lewis
I've been wanting to read this series since I bought it 2 years ago and I never got around to it!

I think I'm going to nominate the 'Sisters of the Quilt' series by Cindy Woodsmall which starts out with When the Heart Cries
Yay! I'm so glad that everyone likes the idea. I didn't want to step on any toes when I suggested it. Lol. ^-^;

Good point, Kate! Does anyone know if Kate Lloyd's series is finished yet? I'm also not sure about Mindy Starns Clark's. I know there's a new book coming out in August, but I'm not sure if it's the last one. Someone might need to do some investigating...
I did a little bit of research and it doesn't look like Kate Lloyd's series is finished yet. She has another one coming out in 2014. Mindy Starns Clarks has another one coming out in August like you said Rachel, but I didn't find any more after the fourth one. It looks as if she'll be starting another series after that fourth book, so maybe that's evidence that she'd finished with it? I'm not sure...
Natalie, it looks like you'll probably have to nominate another book. =/
Also, if needed I can also nominate another book...

I would also like to nominate Fields Of Corn by Sarah Price as I currently have the series waiting to be read.

Natalie wrote: "@Brittany: Just to be clear, would we be discussing each book in the series while we're reading it in addition to the other group read that month?"
I would think so. We'll probably have our own little discussion thread while the other Amish read has its own thread.

Thanks to all of you guys who participated in nominating books. I truly hope this new idea for the group turns out to be beneficial!
According to Random.org, our series read for the next three months will be...
5.) The Secret by Beverly Lewis
Thanks for nominating it, Rachel! I read this series a couple years ago and it was great. I'm looking forward to a great discussion. :)

I've read all in that series but the last book so it will be good for me to get to finish a series.
My library has all 3 books in this series so I will be reading this one. My library doesn't have the other books so I am going to have to pass on reading those. I am over my book buying limit.

I have a Nook I bought it before the Kindle allowed downloading of library books. I was going to wait until my e-reader no longer works to replace it. I have noticed that Amazon does seem to have better pricing and more variety of free books than Nook. I have been debating whether to go ahead and get a Kindle.

That's the plan! If you can think if a better way to do it, feel free to suggest! I just figured a month would give everyone time to read through it...

Correct, it won't be until October. So don't worry, Natalie, you won't be missing out on anything. :)
Hello all. As you can see by the last entry it's been a while since this topic was visited.
What do you think? Should we revisit a series read (over a couple months) in addition to our regular monthly read?

I was thinking we'd only consider completed series. We have started a number of series in our group-read, but some of us don't get to finish the series.

In addition to our regular Books of the Month (one Amish read and one Christian fiction), we're going to try to have a series to read over the next few months.
For Example:
August - The Secret by Beverly Lewis (Seasons of Grace #1).
Then for September, we'd pick up with the next.
September - The Missing by Beverly Lewis (Seasons of Grace #2).
October - The Telling by Beverly Lewis (Seasons of Grace #3)
Then, in November, we'd have a new series to read!
By doing this, we can read a whole series within a few months rather than reading one book, then waiting another six months for the sequel to be eligible!
Rules for Nominations
1.) Any Amish series is eligible.
2.) One nomination per person.
3.) If two people nominate the same series, each person's vote counts. So the series will feature twice in the list to give each series an equal chance.
4.) For this month, nominations will be open from the 11th to the 18th. This gives you one week, including today.
5.) Please don't nominate a series we've already started. Check out our previously read books here: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/4...
6.) Only nominate the first book in a series.
7.) Please only nominate a series that has been completed.
8.) Lastly, since this is a new feature for our group, feel free to post your feelings and future suggestions for how the thread or read should run!
Note:We're trying to decide whether or not we should put up the series everyone nominates in a poll and have everyone vote, or if we should stick to our usual routine and use Random.org. Please let me know what you guys would prefer!
