WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE CHARACTER IN THE WHOLE SERIES ? AND WHY?
Tyrion by far my best as he uses his misfortunes to advantage. and his interlect over brawn
Tyrion Lannister is one of the smartest characters and that makes him my favorite. He is also kind; Although he is a Lannister, he rarely lies and showed clear respect to Sansa when they were married. Basically,I think he's the only one who struggles to keep the kingdom safe.As for his appearance these are his words: "Never forget what you are.The rest of the world will not.Wear it like armor,and it can never be used to hurt you."
There are many for me and all have come as surprises.Obvious ones would be Dany and Jon, Arya and Tyrion. They are the heart of the show and I think in a lot of ways the author's favorite. That's the sense I get when I read their parts.
The others mostly include Jaime. He has such an amazing transformation and it's truly been awesome to watch/read it. I always shock people who are just beginning the series when I say, "that guy? The one who tossed the kid from the window? he's my favorite." Freaks them out a little.
Then of course there is Bron...sigh. LOVE him. And George Martin said there are big things in store for him as the books move into the final two so that makes me excited. Great dry humor.
Stannis, Davos, Theon, Jorah, the Spider. These are all great in their own rights too. Book 5 intrigued me because I began to like this Rheagan but I'm not sure what I think of him yet.
I'm sure the series will keep surprising me. That's what I love so much about it. I may end up hating characters I love now.
I have to say I did groan aloud when Cat came back from the dead. Half the crap in the books is her fault!

I was stoked when GRRM said in an interview that his favorite characters are the same as mine...Then I thought about Tyrion's fate...
Pettir Baelish is my favorite. I just want to see how far is he going to get, and if he gets even a little close to sit in the iron throne i will be chering for him with joy.Then there is other characters i also love like Jaime Lannister and Rhaegar Targaryen.
And The Hound, in this case i like more the tv show series version of the Hound.
There are so many dimensions to the great characters in this series, it is hard to choose who is the best. You find that even the worst ones, like Jaime or the Hound, have some very redeeming qualities in book 3,and the noble ones, like Rob and Catelyn Stark, can get mad and chop off a head or slit an innocent person's throat out of vengeance. As you find out more background on Jaime, you see he was actually quite valiant, and maybe the name "King Slayer" was a bit harsh. And he's so witty & good looking in the tv series...but he did push a little boy out of a window, maiming him for life, to save his own ass, & enjoys having sex with his own sister.The Hound killed an innocent young boy like hunting down an animal, and hit a young girl, just because he was ordered to. But he actually protects both Sansa and Arya Stark from the Lannisters too, and tried to unite them with their families.
I guess I would have to say that my favorite characters are the strong women in this book: Catelyn Stark, Ygritte, Tyrion's mistress Shay, Margaery Tyrell and her grandmother, Lady Olenna.
And, of course, Daenerys, mother of dragons.
It's a tight two way tie between Tyrion, because he is full of with and possibly one of the only honorable characters in the series, despite his retched upbringing, and Arya because damn her storyline is interesting and she has overcome so many odds stacked against her.
Tyrion of course, but otherwise Little finger and Varys a little. Little finger because he has been pulling the stings sins the beginning and even if he never will be able to sit the iron throne he will probably en up controlling the seven kingdoms. And I think Varys has been working with Little finger.
So many people choosing Arya and Tyrion....I mean i get it, Tyrion was designed to make people ennjjoy him, he's the classic 'overcome adversity. high wit, enjoys books etc' cliche you see in most good books, it's a shame since that really wrecks the character for me, if he was a little more self absorbed i'd enjoy him more
Arya is the usual 'small child most overcome odds against her and create her own strength blah blah' you seriously see this character in a lot of books, harry potter, lord of the rings to name a couple.
not saying they aren't good characters, i'm just saying they were designed to be liked
don't get me started on Dany; arrogant, obnoxious as hell, you can taste the self absorption that starts to come off her as she continues to make other people do things for her, i can't even remember a single time Dany actually did something without getting other's to do it for her.
My favourite has to be Cersei, in every single book she's had an amazing story, nothing boring, yeah she's a twit but who actually cares? people go on about her incest (which the stormborns did to keep their family pure if i remember correctly) but who actually cares, it's a medieval stylized book, everything she did was to prove herself good enough for her father and her family. She honestly is the most capable character in the books (apart from Tywin, he's just too bland for me)
Brienne of Tarth - Loyal to the bone and one of the very few heroes in the book. Plus i'm a sucker for strong female warriors.Sansa - I just love reading from her POV, GRRM really captures a young girl and translates it really well. I do nothing but root for her because of all the crap she goes through.
cersei Lannisterbecause she has a strong character and she is a very brave and funny women (not necessary smart though)
after her is probably lady Olenna
finally tywin , he is a fearful man
I also like Daenerys and Arya, I think Dany is bold and brave, a very strong character and Arya as well, any normal little girl would break down with the deaths of almost all her family, but not Arya who wants revenge, she's very stubborn and also very clever.
To differentiate here, I have two types of favorites: the most interesting, and the one I genuinely like the most.
Most interesting: the Cleganes, and Theon
Genuinely like the most: Tyrion in 1st place, then Arya, Jon, Bran and Davos tied for 2nd lol

Four way tie! Arya, Sansa, Bran,and Dany. I look forward to their point of views most of all.

Oh she's one of my favorites. She started out whiny but she became super strong. She is equally as interesting as Arya. I also love Bran which seems to be a very unpopular character. I've never met someone who actually listed him as a favorite character. He was the first pov chapter we got in the book and I loved him from the first page.
My favorite characters are Brienne and Sansa because even though they endure hardship they still believe that honor and loyalty will win out in the end. They still believe in the whole "Knight in Shining Armor" thing.
Without a doubt: Tyrion, he's witty, clever, honourable and sooooo underestimated by his environment.Jon Snow: the underdog who'll show the world what he's capable of (some of this also goes for Tyrion).
I like Arya's determination, but she's carrying things too far. I don't mind a spot of vengeance and violence now and then, but it's becoming an obsession... she seems to be losing something of herself along the way. Sorry for the psychobabble :-)

I know the favorite is Tyrion with most people, and he is my favorite also.I love his storylines, they seem to move the quickest out of the other characters. And I love that he is a Lannister. He has the Lannister name, but doesn't really act like one. (in most cases) He hates his whole family, excluding Jaime. He has the wits and cleverness of Tywin, but does things that his family doesn't approve of.
Despite the fact that I hated him for the first two books, Jaime quickly became my favorite after the third. He's got a bit of Tyrion's wit, and you realize after a couple POVs that he relied on bravado to keep people at a distance, since he can't/won't explain all the vows he's broken and why. It's been interesting to see how he navigates interactions with other characters after losing his sword hand and thus that projected arrogance. A seemingly simple character became complicated, and like some others have said, his current 'redemption' arc is fascinating.And Davos is a close second. Because he's a loyal guy and the only 'good' character in the series. (Okay, the only good guy with some sense to him...looking at you, Ned.) He's the only one I can think of who doesn't have ulterior motives.
Doran Martell is my favourite Westeros Lord. He is smart, has more than one plans ready and really cares about his people more than any other leader. He wants revenge, has wanted revenge for 15 years or so... But he waits, plans and would rather not try so long as the odds are against him. His feelings come second to the welfare of the Dornish people. Even the noblest of the Westerosi Lords thought their Houses' pride and glory were more important than the lives of the common men that would be slaughtered in their game of thrones.

Both characters face adversity with humor and grace, refusing to become victims or to give up no matter the circumstances. Tyrion is the perfect pint-sized Byronic character, exquisitely flawed yet also exquisitely principled and caring. He is the least valued and most valuable Lannister, and also for me the wisest and arguably the most courageous. He is no less a scoundrel than his brother and sister, but a more exuberantly well-rounded scoundrel, by gosh, and one I've unabashedly rooted for since first meeting him in print. There are tarnished heroes and shining villains aplenty in George RR Martin's wonderful saga, but none so tarnished or shining as he. Arya is the daughter I would love to have. Shrinking violets and blushing damsels be damned--there's a great queen in the making!
Tyrion Lanister, and Jon Snow.
Of course I love Arya, Jon Snow and Daenerys, but one character I love to hate--Cersei. She is very well crafted, with her love for her children, her brother and her blinding ambition. There is no depth she would not sink to for those she loves, or to rid herself of those she hates. Intriguing, to say the least.

I admire Jon Snow and the deep sense of honor he face unbelievable hardships with.
Arya, Littlefinger and Daenerys

Has to be Davos since he is, in my eyes, one of the few characters whose actions and thinking may be characterized as "Lawful Good" - or is as close to it as an ASOIAF character can get.In terms of depth, development and generally having interesting POVs (I have not read AFFC and ADWD yet), Jaime Lannister.
Oh, and Stannis seems fun, too.
Arya, hands down. I love her tenacity, her spunk, everything about her. I so looked forward to her chapters. I love many other characters, but she is my favorite.
Howland reed. He's barely mentioned so far, but he's going to have one of the biggest parts to play for sure. He's the only good guy left who really knows what happened at the end of Robert's rebellion
obvious choice: Tyrion; but honestly I love Euron Crow's Eye, that man has sailed the world and then some, has all sort of exotic things and is just a badass pirate
If I only had to pick one, I would choose Sandor Clegane, otherwise known as the Hound. I like that he is brutally honest with other characters about the things he thinks and feels, regardless who hears it. He humbles himself terribly by not wanting to be called a knight, is quite the protector of Sansa and Arya from the Lannisters. Whether one wishes to see him as a good person who has done terrible things, or a despicable man who is capable of doing good, he is very human. Although I am reading Feast for Crows, I am hoping he will show up later in the books. Please, don't know one tell me whether he does or does not. Greatly appreciate it!
My favorite is the Queen of Dragons
Ser Barristan Selmy, for being one of the noblest and upstanding characters throughout the entire series. Sandor Clegane, for his cynical attitude towards knighthood and yet espouses the qualities of a knight better than most knights despite not being one himself.
Davos Seaworth, for being one of the honest characters.
Hodor, for being Hodor.
Tyrion for having smart answers for almost all questions.
Undoubtedly the Queen of Thorns. Her barbs and put downs are spectacular. She has a shrewd mind and a keen wit and it just generally a badass.
Wyman Manderly because his baking game is strong
I like Tyrion because of his intelligence, wit, and basic sense of compassion.

The Queen of Dragons, she has evolved into a major character.
Tyrian, a great diplomat who has faced adversity and hatred throughout his life for his disability, yet treats others more fairly than he has been treated himself. His wit and compassion are qualities that set him head and shoulders above those around him, despite his small stature.Daenary's for her amazing transition from vulnerable child and oppressed female sold to the Dothraki - to an impressively strong, forward thinking and fair leader. Who needs the Suffragettes when you have Dany!
Lady Olenna Tyrell. A true wolf in sheep's clothing. Outwardly a sweet old maid, inwardly a conniving mastermind who brings down a twisted man child of a King and disrupts the Kingdoms causing a great war!
Sansa. She was a high born lady, with a soft and fragile disposition. The hell she has been through would have broken many but she carried on quietly, keeping her mouth shut, despite the overwhelming emotional pain she had to bare. Instead of being broken by her brutal experience, she learned from even the most terrible traumas that affected her and rose like a phoenix from the flames. Sansa is easy to under estimate. She doesn't not come across as shrewd and keeps her cards close to her chest. With the help of Arya, she was able to thwart Little Finger's manipulative machiavellian plans.
To be fair, there isn't a character I don't like in this amazing book series!
Arya. She constantly reinvents herself and takes no prisoners along the way.

Roose Bolton is a complete badass with that ability to always be completely calm and even though his voice might be almost a whisper, people know to better shut the fuck up when he has something to say. Love him.
