Lilo Abernathy (lilo_abernathy) | 7 comments Hi. I've recently created a new version of my book that updates the cover. Now, on my main book page (which is the newer version) none of the lists that it is on shows up.

This is my main listing with the new book cover. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
I'd like this version to show the lists that it is on.

This is all the lists associated with the old cover.
https://www.goodreads.com/list/book/2...

The problem is that everyone is going to the new listing and they don't see the "lists" that the book is already on.

Lists show which ever edition(s) have been voted onto it. New editions do not replace old ones on lists.

Edit: and this is not something librarians have any control over.

Someone else got to a couple of the lists from 213 before I did; I deleted or edited the rest.

Too personal?"

That is actually a consideration list for a YA committee:

Lobstergirl Oh, okay. Is Taysha some pronunciation of some acronym?

Amanda | 2442 comments Lobstergirl wrote: "Oh, okay. Is Taysha some pronunciation of some acronym?"

It's actually a Caddo Indian word.

From the link above:

'TAYSHAS' takes its name from the Caddo Indian word meaning "friends or allies." Written texas, texios, tejas, teyas or tayshas, the word was applied to the Caddos by the Spanish in eastern Texas, who regarded them as friends and allies against the Apaches.

Not sure what's going on with that one.

Looking at the tag, it's possible it's a sort of personal favorites, but I don't know

225: Looks like it's exactly what it says: a list of everything one wants to read. A bit odd, but not really a problem.

message 217: by Pisceschick (new)

Pisceschick | 34 comments I haven't worked enough with Listopia to know the ins and outs, so I thought I'd post this one here... It's a list of a particular author's books (2), made by that author. Since it says it's only for her books, does that fall under the promotional flag??

https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/7...

Also, is there info anywhere on what's acceptable or not in Listopia? I didn't find anything in the manual about it, other than the publisher imprints bit. Thanks!

That's because it's not primarily a librarian concern: all users can add and vote on Listopias. The guidelines are therefore on the page you see when adding a new one: https://www.goodreads.com/list/new

Posts with links to individual users will be edited or deleted. Such content should instead be sent to support via the Contact Us link on the Help page. Particularly if you believe a user is violating the Terms of Service, which librarians cannot do anything about.

What may be posted in this group/thread is a link to a specific Listopia and a list of books (or just one, if that is the case) that do not meet that list's original guidelines.

message 226: by Renske (new)

Renske | 12222 comments 235 Could that list be about the book (or film) Matilda by Roald Dahl?

message 227: by Lobstergirl (new)

Lobstergirl I don't know. I'm not familiar with either one.

message 228: by Abcdarian (new)

Abcdarian | 26579 comments Yep: "Matilda has read a variety of books, especially at the age of four, when she read many in six months" (list follows): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matilda_...

message 229: by Lobstergirl (new)

Lobstergirl Oh. There you go then.

message 231: by Dee (new)

Dee (deinonychus) | 16 comments Why is this list marked as static?: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/8...

With the exception of the 2009 (https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/3...) and 2011 (https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...) lists, which are also static, all the other New York Times annual lists are votable, and there don't seem to have been many problems in keeping them clean.

Unless there is a good reason for treating the new list differently, can it (and the other 2) be unmarked so people can vote for their favourite books out of the 100? Thanks

message 232: by rivka, Former Moderator (new)

rivka | 45177 comments Mod
It was created and set as static by Goodreads staff.

message 233: by Dee (new)

Dee (deinonychus) | 16 comments rivka wrote: "It was created and set as static by Goodreads staff."

I see. That's odd, and a little inconsistent, but doesn't apply to the 2009 and 2011 lists, both of which were created by users.

message 234: by rivka, Former Moderator (new)

rivka | 45177 comments Mod
In general, if asked to do so, supers will set as static any list that should not have other books added to it. That's what static lists are for.

message 238: by Kim (new)

Kim Rose | 4 comments I added a book to a YA list on Listopia without realizing it was for YA. The book is not appropriate for this list. Can someone please help me remove it? Thank you.

message 241: by Lobstergirl (new)

Lobstergirl Pls delete. Seems like not a serious list. Someone testing how to do a list.

https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/8...

message 242: by SparksofEmber (new)

SparksofEmber | 40 comments That test list has been voted on by a fake "test" user with a dozen "test" books hosting a "test" giveaway. I've emailed support. What's crazy is all the people adding his fake books to their lists and entering the giveaway.

message 243: by SparksofEmber (new)

SparksofEmber | 40 comments So the reply from support was that it was a GR staff test list and sorry for the confusion. It's gone now but a memo stating it was a staff test would have cleared that up. ;)

This list: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/7...
has several books with the wrong cover showing. I'm not sure how to correct that?

message 244: by Lobstergirl (new)

Lobstergirl Maybe start a thread in "book covers" for it? It's probably due to either an automatic cover change, or a librarian cover change. The question always is, which cover is right for that ISBN? And if multiple covers go with that ISBN, you'd want to revert the improper cover change and create an Alternate Cover Edition.

message 245: by SparksofEmber (new)

SparksofEmber | 40 comments Will do - thanks!

Lobstergirl https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/8...

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

But the book is not going to be published until the year 2105, so is it really eligible for a listopia?

The Best of Martha Cooley? She's only written two books.
