Demi (demirae) | 3 comments Hey I'm 17 years old and a huge HUGE book lover. I love all the fandoms such as twilight, hunger games, vampire academy, city of bones, divergent etc.. I love everything supernatural themed book but I have never read or scene the Harry potter books or movies.
I know I know it seems impossible but as a kid my mother was very against me watching anything with magic.
I went to watch the first movie the other day and I have a problem where if I watch the movie I can't read the book and it got me wondering if I should read them.
I haven't read them cause it's from a kids point of view but I'd love to know what other people's thought are on why they are so good. Or am I to old to get into them?
Thanks :)

David Estes (davidestesbooks) Absolutely! I read them at around age 26-30 and thought they were awesome!! Definitely worth a read and by the end of the series they're more YA than middle grade so they're perfect for you :)

Hope this helps!!

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 66 comments For sure yes! Even though they are a younger reading level they are still a beloved series with memorable characters, amazing themes, unforgettable plot twisters, and haunting endings. Rowling is perhaps one of the best writing of the 21st century because of we vivid imagery and characters! The Harry potter series is definitely a must!

message 4: by Ela (new)

Ela Most definitely YES! I started the series at around 11 or 12 and love every single book. I own the books in hard cover in two different languages in fact. I've reread them as an adult and still love the story, characters and how it's written. The books later on (Goblet of Fire and on) in the series are not very kid-ish at all in fact. I would strongly recommend you read them.

David Estes (davidestesbooks) Couldn't agree more!! They start as middle grade but become more YA as the series goes on :)

Mary Emma | 2 comments The answer to this question is always yes! I read them for the first time when I was 16, and I absolutely loved them! Definitely give them a shot.

message 7: by Olivia (new)

Olivia Absolutely I am 13 and I have already read them all 5 times over. I own the books and movies but as always the books are better than the movies. After my mum saw how much I loved them she decided to read this new phenomenon by J.K Rowling for herself she absolutely loved them and she is 36. So I absolutely recommend you read them I don't believe you are ever to old.

message 8: by Hulou (new)

Hulou | 10 comments Another amazing thing about the Harry Potter books is they grow with the readers. The first few may seem a bit younger but by the thirdish book it's a lot better! Not that the others aren't amazing but if you're worried about them being childish.. they seem to grow up. Amazing books and a definite read!

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 66 comments I agree with this comment entirely! The way Rowling wrote the books, you saw not only her characters grow and mature, but her writing as well.

Julia | 432 comments I had a different experience with Harry Potter.

I am not a kid. I read a lot of science fiction and fantasy and have for many years, YA and adult. When I picked up the first Harry Potter I couldn't figure out what all the fuss was about. I read it, but thought I'd read lots of better novels about teens/ kids coming into their magic/ powers. Then another teacher convinced me to keep reading until #3. It was Dolores Umbridge that sold me on the HP novels. She was a villain I could understand and appreciate.

message 11: by Alba (new)

Alba Of course!!! Harry Potter is the best saga I've read. The best book was the third book but the last one is fantastic too. In my opinion, Harry Potter is for all ages. You have to read Harry potter, you are going to love them!!!

Dee I didn't read them until I was 19, and now I'm re-reading them at 23. I definitely recommend them. I've noticed a lot of things I didn't notice the first time around, and there were a few things I missed even the first time around.

I started reading them when I was already in college. Ten years have passed and I've re-read the entire series about five times or so. Number 1 favorite series EVER for me.
