The Beginning: Thump! Martha woke suddenly. It was the middle of the night and she knew something was in the attic and had woken her up.
The next morning, Martha asks her grandmother “Did you hear that noise in the attic last night?”
Her grandmother says, “That might have been the trunk I had opened earlier.”
After her grandmother tells her what the noise was, Martha asks, “What happened to my parents? Does that trunk hold anything that’s related to my parents?”
“They died in a car crash when you were only a baby,” Martha's grandmother replies sadly. “The trunk has the things they left.”
“You’re lying Grandma, because I know that my mom died of a disease, but I really don’t know what happened to my father.”
“Please calm down Martha. Please don't ask, I don’t want to talk about it.” Helen walks out of the room.

After the talk, Martha decides to go up to the dusty attic so she can look around. Once she gets there, she sees an open trunk, its lid blocking the open path. When she sees the trunk open, she notices a red cloak and some pictures of different people wearing what looked like the same cloak. As she reaches toward them, her grandmother calls her down to lunch.
As soon lunch is over Martha decides to go back up to the attic to look at the cloak some more. After Martha gets up to the attic, she thinks to herself, If I put on the cloak, then I will get into trouble. If I don't, I'll be fine...
“Martha, what are you doing wearing that cloak?”
“I was curious, so I decided to put it on.”
“You are in big trouble.”

“Why is there a red cloak in the attic?” Martha asks suspiciously.
“It’s there because, when I was little, my mother… or was it my grandmother… gave the red cloak to me and I will soon pass down the cloak to you. Also, I was told that there are magical powers when someone uses it.”
“What is the cloak used for? What is the power?”
“I can’t tell you that, but the secret is about the history of the Red Wood Forest and the trees. The only way to learn about the secrets is to go on an adventure around the world.”
Martha wonders what kind of adventure would be necessary and what she'd have to do.
That night Martha was thinking to herself if she should go or not.
The next morning at breakfast, Martha tells her grandma that she’s going on the adventure. After an excellent, yummy breakfast, they start to pack the red cloak and some different clothes into a small bag.
Once they get into the car, Martha's grandmother says, “When you get to the airport, you will be on your own, but you have your cell phone with you, right?
Martha nods.
"When your plane lands in London, there will be a man named Joe wearing a blue jacket waiting for you. He will tell you the first clue to the mystery.”
While on the plane, Martha reads the books her grandmother gave her: “Guide to Deciduous Trees” and “Guide to Evergreen Trees”.

Traveling:
When Martha lands in London, she sees a man with a blue jacket and a named tag that says 'Joe'.
After she sees the man, she thinks to herself, Was this the man my grandma told me to find to get the first clue?
So Martha goes up to the man and asks “Um… excuse me, are you the man that has the first clue to the history of the Red Wood Forest?”
“Are you the girl that’s supposed to collect the clue from me?” The man narrows his eyes at Martha.
“Yes. My name is Martha;” replies Martha.
"Yes, yes I do have it." Answers the man.
“So what’s the first clue?”
“ I’m tall and have hands that can’t pick up anything; when you step inside, you’ll have to look and see what you might find inside of me."
“Ok, got that Martha?”
“Yes, I got it.”

As she was figuring the riddle out, she realizes that a clock has hands, but can’t pick up any thing at all.

The next thing Martha realizes is that the answer had to be Big Ben.
After Martha figured out the answer, she told Joe. “Joe, I think I figured the puzzle out!”
“Ok, what do you think it is Martha?”
“I think it’s Big Ben in London!” Martha answers.
“Yes, you’re correct.”
So Martha and Joe walked to Big Ben to find the second clue on the history of Big Ben.
“Look, there’s a place where you have to get tickets.” Martha blurted out. “Should we get tickets?”
"I think I can arrange a tour.”
“Ok, thanks."
After buying the tickets, Martha and Joe decide to look around.
Then Martha asks, “Why don’t we split up so we can find something about the first clock tower- it was built in the 13th century.”
“Ok, I will go left and you will go right, so that way we can cover more area.”
After they split up, they both started on different areas of their section to look for anything about the original Big Ben. An hour after they started looking, Martha finds an alcove with some remnants of the first clock tower.
“Aha! I think that I found the second clue!”
So Martha takes out a pad of paper so she can report it for Joe. Once Martha finished writing the information down, she went back to the main lobby to wait for Joe.
Another hour goes by, and Joe finally comes back.
“I couldn’t find anything. Did you find anything?”
“Yes, I did,” Martha replies. “I found out that the first clock had hands made out of cast bronze and one of them is still here in an alcove.”
