I love this reminiscing Eve is doing of past Christmases. Her ice skating with Mavis was heartwarming.

I could really see Nadine and Baxter. It really seems like a good fit. They would keep each other on their toes.

Good description!
Potential for a few new members to the outskirts if Eve's family. DeWinter, Lonna, her "helper" at HPCCY, Mavis' Fegan.

Wow, that's the first major faux pas she's made, that I know of, in the 20 or so years of writing this series. Thanks Dawn, at least now I know it's 'not me'.

She's made several errors:
1. Calling Morris "Morse" in two books
2. Introducing Harvo, the fiber specialist and then referring to her as Harpo in the last two books.
3. There was an error in this book, near the end where she stated "Monty" instead of "Nash"
The Morris/Morse is listed as errata on her J. D. Robb website.

I didn't see that until you mentioned it. She and Eve are gonna bump heads down the road.

Don't throw tomatoes at me.....
I thought this one was a little boring. I loved the Mavis moments where her story was really revealed for the first time and Eve's obvious emotional growth moments (how she handled Lonna, her reaction to Dennis Meara and subsequent explanations to Roarke). The mystery was just flat for me. I guessed who had killed the girls from the beginning. The procedural for this one had a bit of repetition. I struggled through the last two chapters.
Sorry...I'm normally 4 or 5 stars for these books.

Thank you for that! I so agree, this for me, was a 'meh'. That, plus the errors in the book has pretty much convinced me that this will be my last Robb/Roberts book.

@Jonetta, was the Morris/Morse thing Nora or an editing issue?
I also hear from some reviews that there are some major editing issues in the hardcover.
No way will it be my last as I've enjoyed most of the last few. This one just didn't do it for me.
Dawn, I read these books first for the mystery/suspense so when that falls flat, the other elements have a greater burden in providing some balance. Unfortunately, the relationships and other characters didn't assume that burden.

Regarding errors in the book...
Here's where we are seeing the cost shaving in the publishing industry. It's not just a problem for self-published authors. Major publishers have shrunk their ranks and I fear they're having copy editors also assume responsibility for the proof reading. I'm seeing this stuff routinely in books published by the top ten houses.
What a shame.

The Morris/Morse is a continuity issue. Nora should have definitely caught this as it was near the beginning of the series. However, her editors should have DEFINITELY caught this.

Azleen, do you realize you've already rated it 4 stars?

Initially, I found myself kinda wishing Eve had just left things as they were in a way. But if you look at it from the families of the victims, I guess it had to go the way it did. I just felt sad when I closed the book on this one - and not just because I have to wait for the next one.

You mean not tell the parents/families about finding the children's remains?

Oh no, I think that the notifications were entirely necessary. People need to know what happened to their loved ones no matter what. I was thinking more along the lines of the murderer. I believe I am all hard line when it comes to crime and such, but in this case, I am not sure I would have followed through with the legal process if I had been Eve. It seemed to me that it was resolved. However, the families of the victims deserve their day in court and have a right to know that he is being punished. This is one of those situations, where I believe I am more of a Peabody than a Dallas.
Oh, I understand. I'm not sure how I feel about that. On one hand, she had to convince herself that he really was mentally unbalanced. After all, it took a lot of plotting to pull this off. On the other hand, the only thing that changed was the venue for his incarceration and a well-meaning, good doctor probably lost his license.
Tough call. Thanks for raising this point.

Yes, PLEASE! But what would it be? I cannot even imagine Eve becoming a mother. :-0 It would really shake things up if she killed another character, although, I would hate that.

Eve has always been at the forefront of an investigation. So it'll be interesting to see her on the other side (not dead mind you, just unable to get help or find clues).
