message 53: by Cosmic Sher (new)

Cosmic Sher (sherart) | 2234 comments Heidi, we used to make those too and add red food colouring to half the mix, then we twisted them into striped candy canes. Those were some of my fondest childhood holiday memories. :D

It was awful, awful stuff. That summer my "cool" uncle tried to slip me a drink but it happened to be that, and I couldn't do it, so gross. *shiver*

Cosmic Sher (sherart) | 2234 comments Our we verging into the realm of gluttony yet? Or are we still envious... desiring of the chocolate & cinnamon goodies?

message 56: by Cosmic Sher (new)

Cosmic Sher (sherart) | 2234 comments Oh, good point Cinnamon.

message 57: by Cosmic Sher (new)

Cosmic Sher (sherart) | 2234 comments Dark chocolate, with a higher percentage of cocao bean, is indeed higher in antioxidants and can also boost the seratonin levels in the brain. Cinnamon is great for leveling out blood sugar spikes & dips, and can be put into the same class as hot peppers in that it revvs up the metabolism.

I once had a dark chocolate truffle with both chili pepper (cayenne) and hints of cinnamon. It was delightful as well as pretty good for the system.

I do not love Starbucks for its corporate mentality. That said: I adore their espresso truffle mocha with sugar-free hazelnut syrup. (I actually went out and purchased their mocha powder so I could save $$ and make something similar at home) I also really like their green tea frappacinos with melon syrup. But, these have so much sugar that it wrecks me for the rest of the day. (sigh)

Cosmic Sher (sherart) | 2234 comments Usually if a truffle is strong and rich it means, for me at least, that I don't have to gorge on the entire package. One or two is sufficient for pleasurable fulfillment.

Félix (habitseven) Chocolate? I go away for a few hours and you're still talking about chocolate?

message 60: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments Eating Play-Doh is a memorable treat, although the colors are for aestetics only, not flavors

message 61: by Cosmic Sher (new)

Cosmic Sher (sherart) | 2234 comments And you figured this out recently, Kevin?

You are surprised by this Larry? Didn't you know the world revolves around chocolate?

(arches eyebrow at both of them)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments I have heard that the color red does.

message 63: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I know that, Sherrie. I was just talking to myself. :)

Félix (habitseven) Cinnamon, sugar, and butter is my favorite toast topper.

I know. Nobody asked.

It's pretty incredible, RA. It's been mesmerizing. Not unlike watching a unicyclist juggling.

Hot chocolate (homemade, not the powdered kind) with cinnamon is DA BOMB!

message 70: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Mexican hot chocolate too...yum. I brought a 73% dark chocolate fair trade bar of deliciousness to work to guard against you people today. Yesterday was harrowing.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Champurrado. I'm pretty sure that's what I got on New Year's Day at the lodge on Petit Jean Mountain after our hike. It was... heaven.

Spanish hot chocolate con churrors is freaking amazing, if you can find a local spot that does it right. When made correctly it is like burning hot, creamy near-pudding chocolate soup. The churros allow just a biteful to cling to each inch. Oh, yum.

message 73: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments the best place to get this is find out where there is a large population of hispanics working and then hang out in the parking lot at lunch time. many of the wives or friends will bring lunch to the parking lot and sell it out of their cars. each usually have a specialty and you can get different authentic foods and help somebody out who is trying to get by. i do this often and get to meet and hang out with some really cool people WHILE getting some great food
