Jill (readinginpjs) (readinginpjs) I'm really loving this book :)

Feeling bad for Xander, I really like him. Reminds me of my struggle of liking Peeta and Gale :D

Jill (readinginpjs) (readinginpjs) ahh I just finished the book! couldn't put it down the last few hours

anyone want to do a buddy read for the sequel? :)

message 53: by jam (new) - rated it 5 stars

jam (jamirUGH) | 64 comments Aww. I'm so jealous!! All the bookstores I've went to say it's still out of stock and really famous at the moment! Hopefully it's available in the bookstore I'll visit a few hours from now. :'(

message 54: by jam (new) - rated it 5 stars

jam (jamirUGH) | 64 comments @Jill Yes please! Could it be next month?

message 55: by Tris (new) - rated it 3 stars

Tris | 678 comments @Jill Yay! Did you like it? I didn't get a chance to read today yet. I am gonna read in bed :)

@Jamira You could try getting an ebook. Or you could probably find a pdf online :)

@Mary I am also jealous of your weather. You get snow!!! It never snowed where I live!!! It must be so fun because you don't have to go to school / college / work whenever it snows!!!

Jill (readinginpjs) (readinginpjs) @jamira I'm not sure i can wait that long lol the way the book ends you really want to jump right into the next!

@tris yes I really liked it! And like I just said, the end really leaves you wanting more.
Also don't be too jealous of snow lol at least where I live, we get a TON and they very rarely will cancel school, etc. The roads get really bad for driving and cars get buried. Not so much fun. Would be nice to live somewhere they got light snow from time to time :)

jam (jamirUGH) | 64 comments @Jill Haha. Okay. Soon? xD

@Tris Thanks for the tip! I prefer reading from actual books more than ebooks. But I guess I'll give it a chance. Out of stock again!! My mom will be checking another bookstore tomorrow. Hopefully it's available! Since I'll be pretty busy this week, I'll be cramming with this book on the upcoming holiday and weekends. I'll literally be reading all day to catch up.

Mary Findley (maryfindley) | 67 comments @Tris,
Yes, I see a lot of similarities between Cassia's love triangle and the Tris, Peeta, and Gale love triangle.

@Jill I had a super busy weekend so I have some reading to do tomorrow but I will absolutely do a buddy read. I'm hoping to finish this one by Wednesday.

Any luck with getting it Jamira?

Tris, where are you in the reading?

I didn't know what to expect from this novel but I love it. This has been a pleasant surprise!

message 59: by Tris (new) - rated it 3 stars

Tris | 678 comments @Mary I didn't get a chance to read yet. I am still on chapter 20 :( I will read later tonight though:)

Jill (readinginpjs) (readinginpjs) I will try to wait to read the sequel! Let me know when you're all done and would like to start :)
I started on the monthly read for now (Across the Universe)

Also I want to talk about the end but don't want to spoil! :)

message 61: by Mary (new)

Mary Findley (maryfindley) | 67 comments @Tris, Jamira and Jill: 63 pages to go. I LOVE this group! I love the extreme nature of the world. I can't wait to see what happens when Cassia defies it, because I think that's where this is headed. I'm going to order the second book in the morning. I have Amazon Prime so it should be here in two days and I can begin it on Monday. No wait--I'm going to Barnes and Noble on Saturday. I'll pick it up then and start it then. Yay! Can't wait to talk about this in more depth. Where are you all with it?

Jill (readinginpjs) (readinginpjs) Can we set up a buddy read for Crossed? I'm new so not really sure how.. And when others would like to start :)

message 63: by Mary (new)

Mary Findley (maryfindley) | 67 comments @ Jill: DONE! I Loved it! Loved it. Ah me. Yes, let's start Crossed but let's see how Tris is doing. I won't be able to get the book until Saturday so we can start it on Sunday or Saturday. We'd have to start a new thread. I can do that if we all agree.

Can't wait to discuss this in more detail.

message 64: by Mary (new)

Mary Findley (maryfindley) | 67 comments @Tris,
How are you coming on it? I am done and really loved it. Can't wait to talk more about it!

Jill (readinginpjs) (readinginpjs) Sounds good! I definitely won't read it as fast as the first, I was off work last week so I had a lot of time but back now :(

message 66: by Tris (new) - rated it 3 stars

Tris | 678 comments Wow!!! OMG I am loving this. I am almost done. I was really busy this week, but I will probably finish tonight!!! I am sooooo close. It is AMAZING. I will let you know when I am done.

message 67: by Tris (new) - rated it 3 stars

Tris | 678 comments I finished the book!!!!!!! Ready to discuss?? It was amazing. We should do a buddy read for Crossed!!!

Jill (readinginpjs) (readinginpjs) yay!!
when do you want to start?

message 69: by Mary (new)

Mary Findley (maryfindley) | 67 comments @Tris and @JIll: I got Crossed today. Do you both have it? We can start it later this week if so--Maybe on Friday, the 17th? That will give people time to get it and join in if they want. How does that sound? We'll discuss chapters per day once we have a date.

message 70: by Mary (new)

Mary Findley (maryfindley) | 67 comments @Tris and @ Jill Discussion! Yes!
Here's a starter question: "Were Cassia and Ky manipulated by the Society into falling in love, or are their feelings genuine?" This is a question that kept coming around and around for me as I read this. On the one hand it seemed as if they were manipulated into falling in love, but then again--the "Match" with Xander didn't promote the same feelings for Cassia, so perhaps it was all genuine and would have happened regardless. Thoughts?

message 71: by Mary (new)

Mary Findley (maryfindley) | 67 comments @ Tris and @ Jill: Question 2: On page 307, Xander says to Cassia: "I came up on the screen, too, Cassia, but he was the one you chose to see." Do you agree or disagree with this statement?

message 72: by Mary (new)

Mary Findley (maryfindley) | 67 comments @ Tris and @ Jill: Question 3. The grandfather, to me, is a pivotal character. Do you think he is important? Examine his role in the novel. I think he's incredibly important. (I'll respond to these after you both chime in.) :-)

message 73: by Mary (new)

Mary Findley (maryfindley) | 67 comments @ Tris and @ Jill: Once we have a start date for Crossed, I'll create a thread for it so others can join in on the read if they want.

message 74: by Tris (new) - rated it 3 stars

Tris | 678 comments Yes Friday 17th is perfect! You can make the thread. I am very excited to start. I really want to know what happens next.

Jill (readinginpjs) (readinginpjs) I'm in for the 17th! I have an ereader so I can usually get the books quickly :)

Jill (readinginpjs) (readinginpjs) Q1
I think there was manipulation involved, but that they actually did fall for each other regardless. It seemed they had a connection from the beginning (the day at the pool) but cassia was just as brainwashed as the rest of the population to believe in the matching system.
I think she spent her life just believing there were no other options and therefore just focused on that, and never let any other feelings in. Seeing Ky on her screen just opened the possibility for her

message 77: by Mary (new)

Mary Findley (maryfindley) | 67 comments AWESOME! The 17th it is! I'll go in and make the thread. There's probably already one for it so I'll just do the date change and start. Yay!

Do you have any questions to throw out there for Matched? One thing that really struck me was how incredibly important the grandfather was. He was only in the novel for a relatively short time, but his presence was a driving force in this novel for Cassia and for her father. He really stood for breaking out of the Society's control and he gave Cassia some wind beneath her wings.

Jill (readinginpjs) (readinginpjs) Q2
I think it's hard to know if she picked Ky over Xander, or if it was just sort of the thrill of the unknown. She has a great relationship with Xander and never showed any doubts about him. Maybe she was just bored, knowing Xander all her life. She expressed some jealousy over others getting matched and the excitement of actually getting to know your match.

Jill (readinginpjs) (readinginpjs) Q3
The grandfather was definitely an important character. I have a feeling there is still more to learn about him (or maybe I'm just hoping!).
I think maybe he wanted his DNA destroyed for another reason, but I don't really know what. Maybe he just wanted his son to go against the control of the government.
I'm hoping he's left more behind for Cassia to guide her

Jill (readinginpjs) (readinginpjs) More questions

Where do you think the story will go from here? Before we jump into the sequel

What do you think about the tablets? Why don't they affect certain people - or the red at least?

I'm wondering how wide-spread this control is in this world. They don't really talk about it being an isolated area to the world, but they do talk about different areas they can be matched with.

message 81: by Mary (new)

Mary Findley (maryfindley) | 67 comments @Jill (Q2) I agree. I think that maybe she was just too much in the friend-zone with Xander. She was never really excited about being matched with him because she felt she already knew him. I think a big part of her wanted the thrill of the unknown.

message 82: by Mary (new)

Mary Findley (maryfindley) | 67 comments @Jill (Q3) I think so too. I'm kinda bummed the he won't be coming back (though I find that kinda creepy!). He was interesting and I think he knew a lot more than he revealed. I think we will get some more backstory on him too. (By the way, isn't it creepy that they poison the elderly? That's just horrible!)

message 83: by Mary (new)

Mary Findley (maryfindley) | 67 comments @Jill--(More Questions)
I read the beginning of Crossed at the end of Matched. I think it was a chapter or so and I really don't know where it's going to go now because some time has passed between the end of Matched and the beginning of Crossed. They are now out on the Farmlands and I have no clue how she's going to find Ky. It's like finding a needle in a haystack. I really want her to find him and to run off with him. I want them to be rebellious but I don't know if that will happen. I hope that they meet up soon though. I don't want the book to be about the journey to find him, but I'd rather have it be about them together in some way.

Also, the tablets are still a big mystery to me. Why they don't work on Xander and Ky is just strange (and a bit convenient I thought). The blue ones are interesting because they can keep you alive, and the green ones seem to be sedatives. The red ones are the ones that creep me out. I hope we find out what happened the other time they took them.

message 84: by Mary (new)

Mary Findley (maryfindley) | 67 comments @Jill--Oh yes, and how widespread it is. I couldn't really figure that out or get a feel for that. It seems like it's an isolated area (reminded me of Divergent). It seems like everything else is the Outer Provinces.

message 85: by Mary (new)

Mary Findley (maryfindley) | 67 comments I hope they don't make a film of this series. Not yet anyway. It's nice to read a series that isn't already in production (at least I hope not). Besides, I can't see anyone playing Cassia. And Ky--I really hope they end up together!

message 86: by Tris (new) - rated it 3 stars

Tris | 678 comments Well I believe that Matched is in early pre-production :( Ikr, it's nice to have a book without a movie. Click here: http://m.imdb.com/title/tt2382326/

message 87: by Ana (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ana (littlebookbin) | 11 comments Ok I just joined here (not just this particular discussion, but the whole group), and I just finished reading matched a few days ago. And I do have to say that the one thing that annoyed me the most was the artifacts, I mean you only get to have one personal object and then they take it away? Am I that materialistic that I cannot fanthomlife without my stuff?

María | 2037 comments The thing I hate the most from this modern Society it that they kill you when you are old. It reminds me to Across the Universe where the paralysed old people to death

María | 2037 comments 35% They can choose my husband and my food and cloths. Even my work but no my death!!! I hate that is so controled but maybe is the only way this kind of society can work...
I think that is creepy that they can bting you alive. It seems like a cloned process to me!!!

So far the book is good, but at the same time it's a bit boring.
