I'm a big science fiction fan, and Jack McDevitt is among my favorite authors.

His Academy series is focused on other-worldly archeological finds - mysterious digs of alien races that met extinction eons ago. And for what reason?

I've read some of this series more than once, but I'm planning to re-read the series in the order in which the books first came out.

The Academy series is six books:
'The Engines of God'
'Deepsix'
'Chindi'
'Omega'
'Odyssey'
'Cauldron'

I'm not a big fan of analytical discussion, as I see some others are. I'm hoping to start a group to discuss some of what we'll experience in this series.

If anyone would like to start an informal discussion group on Jack McDevitt and the Academy series; please contact me and I look forward to getting started.

I plan to start reading the first book 'The Engines of God' at the end of July beginning of August.

And Jack McDevitt, if you're out there and watching, it would make my day if you participate in any way. I love your books.

I'd certainly like to participate. I've written reviews of most of the books in the series. If you'd like to read the review of "The Engines of God" it is located at the following link. Let me know what you think!

I don't know that I'll remember enough from past books to participate, but I will when I can. He's one of my favorites, too. I've read the first three Academy novels, all of the Alex Benedict novels, and a couple standalones.

I love Jack McDevitt! The Devil's Eye is one of the best SF novels I've ever read---because Alex and his partner (I cant remember her name) had to solve a world encompassing problem and they did, when no one else could---with no surprise help. Stunning. I just loved it. And I've liked everything else I've read of his---which is most of his works.

Scott I loved the scientific aspect at the centre of this novel, and the part where Chase discovers the truth was a real "wow" moment for me. I still am not ...more

With the exception of Eternity Road, I think Jack Mc Devitt's books are super.
