Sending Notifications

Hi,

I get a constant stream of Goodreads Notifications (so-and-so has a new book, a new giveaway, etc.), all from people I've never connected with in any way.

But I don't see any information on how to send a notification.

What are the mechanics of sending out a notification?

Also, what is the proper etiquette?

If you are a group moderator, you can send a notification to all group members which is probably where your notifications are coming from. I don't personally know of any way for an individual to send notifications though.

When I want all my friends to know about something special I'm doing, I write about it in the Friends Comments box on my profile and I make sure that the add to update feed box is checked. So any friends that are checking my feed will get that message. It's not as good as a notification but it is useful.
