I started last night. I read the first chapter. Is this the last book in the series do you know?

Well, it's the last one written.....but I think he has more planned. There are a couple short stories out too.

I love how these books just take off from the get go lol.

I think my copy of this book has one of his short stories....I am ready for House of Hades!

Right? Definitely no slow introduction here. Sadie is starting to annoy me more though, this whole Walt thing and the way she talks about him are just grating on me. I GET IT your all sad he's dieing but can we man up and do something about it, not just wallow in it!!!

LOL I am only halfway through chapter 2...not sure where you are. But yes...like how she described everyone when she was in the Duat! He looked like a mummy and had some deep old voice...seriously. Riordan needs to wrangle in her hormones. I dont think a SINGLE female character in his other series had hormones THAT off the chart LOL

And no! Poor penguins :( Poor Felix to experience it lol (but really...that penguin ability probably has a use later on and now just seems pointless)

AND she can't even decide if she's crushing hard on him or Annubis! If she just had one infatuation I could deal but this is just not right. I agree the girls in his books don't act like this!

I have been reading as much as I can this weekend!

My thoughts up to where I am:

As much as I understand WHY they went to the dance...I dunno, I feel like they shouldn't have. Ha. I am beginning to wonder if Walt will pull through or be one of the causalities. My past experiences indicate that when I love certain characters of Riordan's, they die. So...I am still on the fence how I feel about it. Though I like him, I have prepared myself for the worst! I am curious about whatever is going on between Annubis and Sadie...I mean really...he is a GOD...what is her deal? I am not sure how I am supposed to handle her interactions with him because I feel like it should be (as it is) completely forbidden....also...I dont recall the Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus series to EVER have this kind of nonsense. I dont know. Maybe I like those Greeks and Romans more than the Egyptians...lol. I dont know. Right now, I am at the part where Sadie and the Russian went to Uncle Amos, and Carter and Walt are currently in the Duat.

I haven't read any this weekend.....lol I've been at a NASCAR race and haven't had a chance!

I fell like we are missing a connection between Annubis and Walt. Something is up there and I can't figure out what yet. Almost like they are somehow connected, maybe he's a host? I dunno yet but I think that's why she is crushing hard on both of them. I guess we will see. I also can't decide if Walt is going to live or die, but like you I'm hoping he does!!!

I never really searched for a connection between walt and annubis other than annubis knows walt is dying? but is curious to see what, if anything, it is! I am finishing out this chapter tonight. I'm trying to spread time between this, City of Bones and Daughter of Smoke and Bone lol

Oh man those are great books! I'm currently reading Clockwork Angel but I've read the first three in the Mortal Instruments series. Someone recommended I stop and read this one before going on to 4. Daughter of Smoke and Bone was awesome too!

the first time I read city of bones I didn't get it. but after I read clockwork angel and prince I was like "ohhhh" and now reading it again I'm like "OHHHHHHHH" LOL. major ah-ha! moments for me lol. I havent gotten far enough in Daughter of Smoke and Bone to say if I like it or dislike it. its my pick a book read this month.

It's dark and gritty but it was really a refreshing story to read. I felt like I had never really read anything like it before, which is really hard to do considering the amount of books I read...

This books saddens me. It is taking me so long to get through, when normally his books I fly through!

I kind of hit a road block myself. I flew through about 200 pages and now I've only gotten through about 100 more since then... I'm just not enjoying it as much as even the first two.

Ugh, the interaction with Hapi...really? This book, for the first time in Riordan history, makes me feel like I am truly reading a children's book.

I don't understand how this one could be going so wrong here...it doesn't make sense really.

I am still not as far as you, I just finished the chapter where the Egyptian Queen popped out on the Nile and they were attacked by the large hippo and Hapi came when Setne gave Carter the spell to call on him....they took the pills. And then new chapter, which I haven't started yet...

"they took pills" hahahaha. I feel like that summary kind of sums up what I'm feeling about this book. It seems like just a series of weird occurrences that are trying to be tied together.

Yeah, but it is a true statement...they took pills they didnt know from some god they didnt know (or you can say from some person they didnt know). WHY would you put that in a book? that kids read?! it is like saying "hey, this authoritative figure here that you may or may not have heard of has these pills you should take if you want to go places far away" lol

lol Oh I get it, I just thought it was very blunt, but I agree he is usually both more mature and responsible than this what is the deal?

Yeah it was also very blunt :) but then I went off on a tangent...I dont know what the deal is for this one...maybe he just felt forced? maybe I should tweet asking him w hat the deal is...LOL. House of Hades just cant get here soon enough

I think the characters is what my problem is with these books lately. I like Carter and I don't mind Sadie but the cast around them aren't as interesting as the Greek ones. The Percy Jackson series I have characters that I love that aren't him which makes those stories more full or rich or whichever word you want to chose. I don't even know if I'm making sense??? I blame the heat.

Makes sense to me. I am going to try to finish this book this weekend...but no promises. I am ready to return it to the library. I have been trying to suffer through another book and am about half way....I have so many books I want to get through...I still have to finish my pick a book for July (speaking of I will be sitting out for August I think...my friend will be here from Scotland on Weds of next week and isn't leaving until Aug 7th)

I will read it today. after the anubis/walt thing and how sadie reacted it was almost a final straw for me lol. almost said forget it I'm done.

I am almost done. There are a lot of things I dislike about the story. I also dislike a lot of the double standards so to speak. I don't like a house Sadie responded when Walt merged with Anubis and I equally just like how Carter treated Zia when she emerged with ra. when you practice the way of the gods do they not realize they are not the only magicians that will call upon God?

I agree there, it was like they were jealous that the others got gods too. I really didn't like this one but there was one piece of info that I got really excited for but I'll wait til you get to the very end!

YES! When Sadie said something about investigating weird magic in Long Island I was like score! I'd love to see something between the two series even though I didn't love this one.

I would like to see something too...but I think I will be sticking to Percy and the Gang from now on....This series just kinda sucked. I didn't like these extra emotions they were giving...all the love triangles or what have you

The ending was very much more mushy than I expect out of Riordan too.
