Better than Vampire Academy...?
Cecily Cecily Jul 01, 2013 07:19AM
So people say that J. L Armentrout had simply copied Vampire Academy and turned the story into this book. I've read both books and it's true. BUT in MY opinion this book is way better than Vampire Academy...

What do you think?

I can't compare these cause they are too different to me. I mean there are a lot of stuff alike but the plot is so different.

The books are similar many ways but they are also different in many ways. I think comparing the two books is like comparing apples to oranges.

As for whether the Convenant series is better than the Vampire Academy series, I think the Vampire Academy series is better in terms of writing, developing characters and plots.

I love this series. I also like the characters in this book better than Vampire Academy. I did love Rose and Dimitri, but Aiden and Alex are better. I liked the story line also better. Vampires may be overused now so the change up with Gods was really nice and the story flowed quite well.

my favorite would be covenant, GREEK GODS HELLO?!

I think they are both great series but Covenant series definitely handled the triangle better than Vampire Academy. At least Seth didnt get screwed like Adrian!

And altough there are similarities I wouldnt call this one a 'copy'.

Do you guys not know how great Adrian, Rose and Dimitri are? Convent series has nothing on them. There is no character development, the main character is super annoying!

I loved both! Similarities and differences are there in both. But Greek gods and Vampires are basically two different plots!!

Even without the blatent copying, it's clear JLA doesn't do much research when it comes to writing a novel. If this had been a truly original idea, she would have put her all into it but instead she found a novel she thought was good and replaced it with her own ideas. I.e. swaping vampires with Greek Mythology.

The first VA novel wasn't very good IMO. The series did get better and there were some great characters but as a book it was hardly a masterpiece. But it was a bit more original than most of the stuff coming out at the time. It was creative.

Half-blood is an exact replica but without the creativity. At least RM seems to take time in doing world building. JLA just picks stuff because it sounds good. For instance, Titanium being a Daimon killing material.

Titaium was only discovered in 1791 in England. So how have they been killing Daimons with it for the last 1000 years?

(BTW There are no Titanium deposits in Greece. It was simply named after the Titans because it is so strong.)

The entire Pures/halfs etc. hides from the world even though they are apprently a much more powerful species and could easily take over humans if they wanted and given their stance on slavery, there is no realy reason why they haven't? Same with Daimons and Gods for that matter?

At least the moroi in VA had legitimate reasons for hiding away.

VA wasn't a great novel but it was different and it was fun. Half-blood is an imbicles version of plagerisum.

yessss!! the covenant series is my favorite series. Aiden *sigh* lol <3

i love VA series but i never liked Dimitri i'm team Adrian all the way so for me Convenant series are better not much but better

Covenant, hands down. I really didn't like Vampire Academy, especially how the various relationships were portrayed. It's like JLA took everything from that series I despised and made it better. In particular, the romance is better handled, and you actually get to see Alex grow and change by the end of the series... in Vampire Academy, Rose tried, but she never quite managed it. Just consider how their final scenes played out: Rose essentially decides, "I deserve to be happy, screw everyone else" while Alex chooses the opposite, realizing, "I can't put my happiness above everyone else's." THAT'S character change. And THAT'S the kind of heroine I want to get behind.

Yes

Firstly, this is ridiculously similar to VA. But that's forgiven because the story is just as good a second time round.

But i read VA first and nothing beats the experience of reading a really good book for the first time.

Thus, for loyalties sake, Team VA.

Roza and Dimka <3 And I;m pretty sure Dmitri could take Aiden.

THE COVENANT SERIES IS BETTER THAN THE VAMPIRE ACADEMY ALL THE WAY

I love them both :) Fav series would be the covenant series tho

I agree. once I started reading this book I saw the similarities, but I fell in love and I couldn't stop reading. I love both series and they have their own little twists.
Which series is my favorite? ... I would have to pick the covenant series. I'm a sucker for Greek gods ;)

Definitely Vampire Academy.

VA was the first and additionally has better characters. If I were to compare Alex against Rose. Rose would definitely come forth as the better one. I can't help but dislike Alex: she's whiny, annoying and is repetitively irrational.

Despite my small hatred for Alex, the Covenant series is still quite enjoyable.

As a side note, I do not condone copying.

Oh wow, VA and Covenant had quite a few similarities in the the beginning. Technically, it was mainly just book 1 where you found the most relations.
I read VA first, and I find myself leaning towards it even now. It was just SUCH a good read.
Covenant was like experiencing it all again but with different twists and other unexpected things.
I feel like I'm gonna have to go with VA on this one. It's just too freaking good of a series.

I havent read VA but anything JLA does it gold in my eyes.

I have to add something here, the similarities are between the first and second book. Covenant is a very good series, but Vampire Academy is far much better, sorry but it's true.

yes

Love the Covenant series a lot more.

I love VA and when i read half blood i saw similarities in characters, story arc and pace.
My friend said covenant gets better.I read book 2,it was crappy.there were no plot developments, seth was boring, no story. If i just wanted to read extensive sex stuff, only then i might like it.

I was hooked after I read Half-Blood the first book in the Covenant Series. Since then, I've read just about every book I can get my hands on written by Jennifer Armentrout. I will have to read the Vampire Academy series so that I can compare.

I don't think she copied...that like saying that everyone who has a love triangle copied off of Stephanie Meyer. Or whoever else came before. People just have the same ideas or similar ideas.

I like both equally! :P I dunno which one I like more..

I do think they were similiar in the first books but they went off in different directions further in the series.

I loved them both but the Covenent series was my favorite of the two.

I love VA and yeah, they are pretty similar. But I think there are a LOT of differences too. Especially as VA progresses it takes a very different turn, and lots of different situations and characters emerge. What makes HB significantly different is the existence of Seth- for various reasons, and yes, I'm AM team Alex/Aiden. Whereas in VA it would be Lissa.their existence really changes things, and are awesome plot twists. Anyway, point. I love them both. For the simple fact that I love how VA portrays more than just one story, from an unlikely POV and the ingenuity- I think I love VA a littttle more.Still love HB though. So much.
