The story is an alternate universe like our medieval ages. The history of the story is that generations of Queens ago the ancestor of the current Queen was beyond cruel and the Gods did not like this one bit. The keepers are all ways commoners and they are above all authority save the Gods. The story starts with the princess becoming 18 years old and thus above all laws. She beats a maid badly for a minor thing. When she goes to ride her horse their is a man standing their looking at her. She takes offense but before she can do anything he punishes her.
