Ashley (icecheeseplease) Hi everyone! Annie is going to be busy around the beginning of July so I'm going to get the Monthly read started for her and then she'll come take over later on.

There was a tie for the July book of the month for 1Q84 and Empress Orchid. I chose 1Q84 because last month when 1Q84 was in the poll it was tied then as well with Lies of Locke Lamora with each having nine votes.

This book is split up into three "parts" so pay attention to that when viewing the reading schedule.

Reading Schedule:

July 1 - 8: Part I Chapter 1 - Part I Chapter 20

July 9 - 15: Part I Chapter 21 - Part II Chapter 16

July 16 - 22: Part II Chapter 17 - Part III Chapter 12

July 23- 31: Part III Chapter 13 - Part III Chapter 31

Just letting everyone know that there's a great documentary video on youtube about the writer as well. I added it to the video section of the book club here:

In Search of Murakami

I haven't been able to participate very much for the last little while -- life's gotten the better hold of me, but I'll be joining the group on this read :)

Alex Tveit (vikingabroad) | 33 comments Will be interesting to hear what the group thinks about this book. For me, it wasn't an easy read, but Murakami is always very interesting to say the least.

Ashley (icecheeseplease) @Emma, you can still participate if you've already read the book. Feel free to drop a line in the discussion at any time :)!

I really want to join in this one but like Ashley said, I'll be a bit busy so I'll be most likely try to comment at my own reading pace. I love Murakami as a writer, his others works that I read have all been favorites of mine.

For those who don't know, there's a Murakami thread on reddit!

Out of curiosity, which one was your favourite? I liked 1Q84 more than I did the
A Wild Sheep Chase. So far those are the only two that I have read.

I cannot pick a favorite, it has to be both Sputnik Sweetheart and After Dark I just devour those books. Ugh. I'm trying to really catch up on my reading to join you guys!

Steve (mixmix) I won't be reading, I devoured this one last year. I haven't read every Murakami, but I'm a huge fan. 1Q84 felt like all his elements shown on display. Some of it worked, some didn't, but the story held strong and should be enjoyable for everyone. I still recommend new readers start somewhere else, this much Murakami at once might sting.

I haven't posted in a long while...life has gotten the better of me, but hopefully next month I can have time to actually read a book! Yeah! I love Murakami and loved Hard-boiled Wonderland. I haven't yet read IQ84 but have it and hope it someday.
