Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments What size do you like your books to be? Or what's your favorite amount of pages? Some love the 200 page novels while some people like the 600 page novels! Some people like the short ones because they are short and sweet and give other time to read other great books. Other people like the long books so they get more of the plot line, setting, characters, etc.

So what do you prefer?

Raevyn "Lucia" [I'm in it for the books] (raevynstar) | 180 comments Anywhere from 100-400 pages is perfect. But if the story sounds interesting I'll read a 600-page book longer, just for the challenge.

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 72 comments For me it depends on the story and the writing style. I've read books of 250 pages that seem too long and drawn out, and books of 800 pages that seem just right. The story that is being told should dictate the appropriate length and everything in there should be necessary to plot or character development. It's the extranious content that makes a book too long, however many pages there are.

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments I agree, David.

Although I love anywhere from 300-400 pages!

Angela | 17461 comments I guess it would depend on what kind of book it is. Some are too short, and others are way too long. I like books that are at least 300 pages.

message 6: by Beatrice (new)

Beatrice (beatricemasalunga) As long as it's not dragging and I don't like the spacing too close to each other.

probably around 300-500 pages.

message 7: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 4527 comments I agree, it depends on the type of story that it is. I have read books that I felt were too short and other that I felt were too long. I prefer books to be over 300-450 pages generally though.

message 8: by Mimi (new)

Mimi | 205 comments My favourite length is probably between 300-400 pages, although I understand that certain stories can't always be told in a small number of pages and the author is probably the best judge.
However as a reader I'm less likely to buy a book if its over 500 pages just because I find they can drag on after that, unless I've heard particularly good things about them, eg Harry Potter and The Book Thief

message 9: by Grace (new)

Grace | 2 comments I love books between 250-500 pages. Although the Elite ( Selection 2) was around 300 pages and it was waaay too short. Like seriously. Kiera Cass is really getting on my nerves. She seems to write for $ more than fun.

message 10: by Jojobean (new)

Jojobean | 553 comments My ideal book is between 300-400 pages. I love the quick reads (less than 200 pgs) too but for me a good amount of pages is 300-400~ there's enough pages for the author to get the whole story out without it going on forever and me wishing the book would end

message 11: by Mehsi (new)

Mehsi I don't really have a perfect length. It all depends on the book. If a book is horrible then it is best if it is short. But if a book is good I don't mind if it gets over 500 or 600 (or more) pages.

message 12: by J.S. (new)

J.S. Frankel | 410 comments For me, there is no 'perfect' length. However long it is and however long it takes to get the message across is...what it is. I've read books of only around two hundred pages which were great while others have been almost a thousand. As long as I don't get bored (with the exception of War and Peace and that was for school yonks ago) any number of pages is fine.

message 13: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments I agree, Jesse. Sometimes the book is just a little over 200 pages, but it seems like a thousand pages if it is not interesting enough for me. I can finish two 300-page books in a day if I'm into them :)

message 14: by Thegirlonfire (new)

Thegirlonfire | 4 comments It depends on the book but I will say between 300-600 pages

message 15: by Brandon (new)

Brandon The Troll Slayer definitley 400 something

message 16: by Brandon (new)

Brandon The Troll Slayer or just pretty small like 200 something

message 17: by Kristel (new)

Kristel (kristelrose) | 33 comments I don't really care about that. I just want it to be over 300 pages, if its like even 284 or something I get really sad because I will be done reading it so quickly.
Sometimes books over 500 pages are really like, slow to read just because they drag out things. I don't like that, but if they're not slow reads, then I don't mind if they're over 500 pages.

Brandon The Troll Slayer -_-

? LOL!

message 20: by Laura (new)

Laura Fischer | 3 comments I've read a lot of fanfiction over the years, which taught me to appreciate stories of all sizes, as long as I liked the author. Sometimes I enjoyed settling down to something good and long and novel-length, and sometimes I was happy with a short story that only took five minutes. It all depends on if I like the writing and the characters and the world.

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

It doesn't matter much to me.

message 22: by Rosa (new)

Rosa (rosaschlumpf) | 579 comments Ya, if the story is keeping me reading it doesn't matter how long it is.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

I with the Harry Potter books were longer :(

message 24: by Emilie (new)

Emilie I like around the 300 range because its not too short and not too long!
