Revenge of the tooth fairies

They came in the night, their tinkling and the beating of their wings heralding the invasion; their strength their vast numbers. Who knew there were so many?

They left destruction in their wake; droplets of blood merging into trickles, into streams, into rivers in their retreat back to their portal.

The following toothless morning, it became apparent that the stories were true. The note claimed revenge for a genocide we didn’t know we had committed. Their invasion was their self-preservation - every life lost, a sackful of teeth; every mouth empty but for a handful, like me, who always believed.
