Bill The Poll has been closed and the two books chosen for the Jul/ Aug Group Read are The Red House Mystery (a classic) and Time Killer, a new mystery; a nice mix. Threads will be opened for them on the 15th. Enjoy!

Nominations are now open for the Jul/ Aug Group Reads.

General rules for Group Reads

1) If your nomination wins - you will be the discussion moderator.

2) One (1) nomination only per person. Neither self-nominations by authors nor nominations by their respective publishers or publicist will be accepted.

3) Do not cheat or manipulate results. It is not acceptable to create fake accounts to nominate books or vote in polls and it is not acceptable to invite people to the site for the sole purpose of nominating a book or voting for a book in a poll. It is not acceptable to ask for votes or influence the poll in any way. If the moderators feel that a group read poll has been manipulated, the book in question will be disqualified. If the moderators feel that the user(s) are fake accounts, these will be reported to Goodreads for further review.

4) Please do not repeat an author we have read in the last year. Check the bookshelves to see the authors we've read in the past year. http://www.goodreads.com/group/booksh...

5) For your nomination please include Title, Author and Link (Use the "add book/author" link at the top of the comment box).

Since we are an international group, please check to make sure the book is readily available in more than one format. the last thing we want is to nominate a book that no one can get.

Finally, a word about series - the joy or bane of a mystery reader's life! Please consider whether the book you are nominating would be best read by someone who has read all the previous books in the series or can be enjoyed by someone new to the series too.

Nominations will be open until Fri Jul 5th. Thanks for your nominations.

I've been wanted to read The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes. The story is about a time traveling serial killer and a woman who hunts him down.

Bill Soumyashri wrote: "One Shot (Jack Reacher, #9) by Lee Child"

We've read a Lee Childs mystery within the past year, Soumyashri. Can you think of another mystery author you might like to nominate?

message 13: by Bill (new)

Bill Ronhummer wrote: "I've been wanted to read The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes. The story is about a time traveling serial killer and a woman who hunts him down."

Ron, unless I've read it wrong, the book was just published this past month. I see it's available in many formats, but it might be a book that's better nominated once its been available for a longer period. I agree it looks interesting but maybe hold off nominating until a bit later in the year?

One of the moderators suggested I stick it up here. But of course, you're right. I can't nominate my own book. Thanks, Tad. Nomination withdrawn.

What Tad said, Cash. Sorry about that. You can promote in the Author's corner section though. Good luck.

Bill Diana wrote: "I nominate Twisted Echoes"

I can only find one reference to this book in the goodreads library. I've checked his wiki page and he has published about 5 books, with this one in 1993, so I'm willing to take a chance on including it in the poll, but I'm kind of worried it might not be an easy book to find for our members. We'll see.

Bill Renee wrote: "While I'm terrified of moderating my first discussion, I do want to nominate Always Watching by Chevy Stevens. Hippies and communes and free love can be murderous, even after 40 years have passed."

Renee - sounds like an interesting book but check my comment to Ronhummer earlier. This book didn't come out until Jun 2013 and seems to be only available in hard back at the moment. I'd suggest you might want to nominate later in the year when it's been out for awhile and possibly available more readily. Is that ok?

Can this be read as a standalone, Shannon? Does it matter if we've not read the first books in the series? It does sound interesting.

Absolutely it's ok, Bill. And a good point. Besides there are so many good nominations so far. Sigh, so many books, so little time.

Grant - I don't know if you're nominating your book or just promoting it, but either way, if you read our guidelines, you can't nominate your own book and also this really isn't the place to promo it as it just confuses the other nominations. Request you use the Author's Corner thread to promote it. Thanks very much.
