In a way I'm happy and angry that Levi didn't clap. I'm happy because I liked him bit I'm angry because he made a commitment to Mai and the other guy ( I keep forgetting his name, I think it's Blair) and they both held up their side of the deal and he was too scared to do it himself. I was upset that risa is paralysed from the waist down but I was proud of her for deciding to stay paralysed instead of taking body parts from people. (hide spoiler)]

--Just what is it the "borrowed" frontal lobe in Cy's head wants him to do in Joplin? Lev is obviously nervous. Cy's body is showing signs of both nerves and maybe pent-up aggression? This does not seem like the sort of homecoming I'd want to be caught in the middle/body of...
--We know by now Roland is more the controlling type than the type to sit back and be controlled, so...now that he's surrounded by a bunch of "unknowns," I imagine he's soon to be a powder keg of emotions. And I bet I know who his first casualties will be.
--It's interesting to me how the chapters are set up. Most of them switch between Connor/Risa and Lev/CyFi...but every now and then, the POV pulls back to an adult touched by the kids or in some way connected to them. I wonder what the point of this is--is it to show us the characters through outside perspectives? To help us better get their "whole" imagine instead of always being caught up in their thoughts/opinions/panic?
--The extra snippets (write ups of the law, of scientific articles, etc.) is helping to better build the world around me as the reader. A lot of information (that might not be considered important but really IS if you want to understand what's happening) that might otherwise be ignored for the front story takes the front seat in these sections. I like that Shusterman took the time to include them.

Connor and Risa are definitely my favorite characters and i totally knew they were going to end up together! Roland i so wanted to be unwound and when it happened i was a bit sad but at the same time not because he was a total jerk! Lev is definite iffy on my like and dislike list at first i didn't care for him then i started to like him then he got all weird and i didn't like him then at the end though i started to like him again so i guess we will have to see whether i do like him or not when i read the rest of the books. It's interesting to have a character like Lev who has such a different world view from the others (and from the readers too, hopefully). Indoctrination is a truly scary thing. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[This entire concept is just getting more and more ridiculous, having read Scythe and Thunderhead I feel like Neal Shusterman has really improved in his writing since writing this book. Although Scythe similarly has a really outrageous premise and deals heavily with issues of morality and ethics, it's far more believable and and makes much more sense.

So much of this entire premise is just completely illogical, but I'm hoping that maybe things will get better explained later on?

I am definitely enjoying this book so far though, it's fast paced and exciting, and I like that both Connor and Risa have quite abrasive personalities but can also work together when it's necessary.

I feel bad for Lev, he's just a kid and he seems like a genuinely good person, he was just unlucky enough to be born into a family that fed him such horrible beliefs. (hide spoiler)]

Who exactly are the clappers? And are people really so gullible to think that anyone clapping their hands are part of the terrorist group? That is comical. I'm glad that Connor and Risa found someone to help them get away. How lucky that the teacher took the baby at the exact moment they needed her to. I wonder what will become of Lev know that he is having a change of heart but is separated from Connor and Risa. (hide spoiler)]

I love all the philosophical questions that these kids are raising, and they really haven't begun to talk about what happens to the soul if you are unwound. How is it that religion (which seems to still be around) has forgotten about the soul? What happens to it?? I love this book. (hide spoiler)]

Finished - Wow, just wow. Freaking Shusterman is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I just love how he weaves a story together. Ok so now the question is (view spoiler)[ Will society change how they think of Unwinds? It still doesn't look like they will change their minds about the question of if it is killing or not, but at least they may reconsider the worth of these kids as people instead of parts?? I can't wait to find out what happens.

I agree with you to some extent, Claire. I do think his writing has improved and I love seeing how the evolution has come about. I think what makes me like Shusterman so much is that he seems to pluck an idea from the real world and then fashions a society that has twisted that idea into an extreme position. It makes you begin to question all the ins and outs of an issue. I love it and think it is brilliant no matter how unrealistic it might be - it is supposed to be extreme, it's fiction.

I understand that it's fiction and therefore unrealistic but I have limits to my willing suspension of disbelief and the premise of this book surpasses it. I didn't have this same problem with Scythe. I'm bad at explaining things so I can't properly express what my exact problem is, but hopefully that made sense.

I get it. I guess I am more willing to accept over the top scenarios from Sci-fi/Dystopia stories, but have less acceptance in say Romance - those drive me crazy! LOL. To each their own, we all have our thing, right?
