Good to know!
I've got In the Best Families up next. I love Nero Wolfe - started out watching the A&E series years ago (ok, in 2004, why does it feel so long ago?) and now I read the books and hear their voices in my head. It's fantastic.

I just started it and am on chapter 6...seemed a little slow to begin with but has really picked up and I am enjoying it so far.
A favorite "quirky" series (A Meg Langslow Mystery) is what I will be reading next.
by: Donna Andrews.
I have so many unread books and ebooks, it is hard to decide! I'm thinking about reading the mystery comedy Sailor, Take Warning! by Kelley Roos next (I still need an "R" for my Read the Season challenge).Has anyone read this book or this author before?

If this is a good one, please let me know. Also, the title refers to boating to some degree??? I enjoy stories told around the seas/oceans or bodies of water,so I wonder if your next book actually has a sea setting?

Now I really want to try it.It will be interesting to see how you like it.

This mystery takes place in New York City during WWII, and is written in the first person {of which I'm not such a fan -- too often used to cheat the reader of some important clue} from the viewpoint of the wife of the husband & wife team (similar to Pam & Jerry North or Nick & Nora Charles but not as funny).
"Also, the title refers to boating to some degree??? I enjoy stories told around the seas/oceans or bodies of water,so I wonder if your next book actually has a sea setting?"
The sailors from the title are sailors of miniature boats at the lake in Central Park, so no sea setting.
Overall, an enjoyable quick read (only took me one day to read) but not topnotch. Too bad :(

Not only is that a water cozy, but I was lucky enough to visit two of the islands in the BVI's. This is one I have to try.

That one is also my favorite of the series so far. She has a lot of characters & a lot going on in one story but she handles it with such skill. I call her(Donna Andrews) the Queen of Chaos.

Hummmm! Not what I was hoping to hear. :) And I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Nick and Nora Charles. (& Asta)

Thanks, good to know and glad you are enjoying it.
Next for me is The League of Frightened Men by Rex Stout but I'm not sure Stout's books qualify as cozy. After that, I plan to read That Affair Next Door by Anna Katherine Greene or a Sherlock Holmes -- don't know which yet.

I like Sherlock Holmes and have a few on my bookshelf that I read periodically. Have you seen the new Sherlock Holmes movies that came out? I thought the first one was really good, but the second one was great. (IMO).
Rex Stout............is that Nero & Archie? I like those too.You have some good ones there.

I concur. I just read it and liked it.
DonnaCarol. --I did see the Sherlock Holmes movie with Robert Downie Jr.... Glad to here the next one is even better! Have you seen the modernized S.H. on PBS Masterpiece Mystery? Well-done but a bit odd IMO

Yes I have seen it on Masterpiece. I have issues with the way Sherlock is portrayed. I know he had "character" flaws (in the books as well) but for me, he is just not likeable in the PBS shows.

In "honor" of my families big August Birthday Bash I decided to read one called " The Happy Birthday Murder" by Lee Harris. It is A Christine Bennett Mystery. New to me author & series. Hoping for the best.

They DO make me hungry sometimes!!
I'm reading "Death, Taxes, and a French Manicure" by Diane Kelly. It's the first in her Tara Holloway series. Tara is an IRS agent with the heart of Evanovich's Stephanie Plum. Loads of laughs.
I've been doing a lot of crocheting lately, so I think my next mystery will be
Hooked on Murder by Betty Hechtman (1st in the series). I haven't read anything by her yet.

I took a sneak peek at the first page. It was a doozy! Is the whole book a little...um...off-color? Or was that just an attention grabbing ploy? Unless it calms down a little, I think it might be a little much for me...although I do like Evanovich.

I just finished the 3rd and newest in this series the other day and thought it was great! I really like this series.

I don't remember the beginning of this book very well, but I had mentioned in another thread the other day that this series tends more toward "chick lit". There is sex in them, though nothing I would consider graphic, however what I consider graphic and what you consider graphic may be worlds apart. There are also "colorful metaphors", including the "F" word which I know offends some people, but since I pepper my own rants and conversation with the word sometimes it doesn't bother me!

Thanks for the info! :)
I'm with you Melodie. I am not a prude but I see no reason to read page after page of sex and cussing that add nothing to the story except filler pages. Just give a good plot with a reasonable ending and I'm happy.

Hi Lori,
I just finished the book last night. Yes, the first page was a bit startling as an attention getter. In fact, I had to reread to figure out what you were talking about. However, she does not use lots of bad language or graphic sex. It was just a fun book.
Lori wrote: "I took a sneak peek at the first page. It was a doozy! Is the whole book a little...um...off-color? Yes, language, and yes, more detailed romance than cozies, but I wouldn't call either excessive. YMMV.
