Linda Boyd (boydlinda95gmailcom) | 360 comments Personally, and this is just my two cents. I think B&N making a decision like this regarding their Nook is a good business decision, I love the fact that they ventured out to give us another reading device option other than the Kindle. There was/is a need and they are fulfilling it, if B&N want to take the Nook to the next level - I say collaborate with someone to make that happen. The Nook HD is a really good device and lets see what 2014 will bring to the Nook!!

I agree. I stated the same thing about how B&N would benefit from a strategic move like this. Lets face B&N is not a tech company. But Microsoft will take B&N devices to another level. I know it was stated this was all speculation. But realistically with the way technology is going, B&N will eventually have to make a major change on their devices. They will be knocked out by other tablets that is superior to their operating system. Going to Microsoft will put this device in another class. Amazon will have to step up their game. It will be able to compete with Apple. Sometimes the companies may knock down information broadcast too early so the competitor doesnt know what they are doing. There is always some truth in a rumor. And again, technology does not stay the same, it changes. The Nook without a doubt will change if it wants to compete with other tablets and devices. It just the nature of the beast

Christopher Conn (cmconn) | 135 comments I suspect Microsoft will have an influence since they have a $300 million investment but the rest is irresponsible speculation.

Now B&N can sell whatever kinds of books people want - books or ebooks or audio books - without the overhead of owning a computer hardware company.

My wife and son and I like ebooks but my daughters would rather read print books. I think ebooks are a bit cheaper and we buy more ebooks than we would if we were buying print books.

Veronica (veraj121) | 167 comments That is true. Makes sense.

Jeanie Jackson Veronica wrote: "The only thing that the Kindle have over Nook is the international access for the ebooks. The Kindle is used in different countries. Nooks are only able to access books nationally."

And in the United Kingdom as of this Spring.

It makes sense - big losses, CEO is out.

Nikki (sahminil) | 4 comments I read this week that its just the tablets hd and hd+ that are going away. that simple touch and simple touch glow are here to stay. that even though the tablets are going out the door bn is going to partner with a few tablet makers so that nook is app is preloaded.

Christopher Conn (cmconn) | 135 comments There are so many haters out there writing articles about the downfall of B&N. The articles are all about the way stock prices are right now and of course the corporation is wounded, had to cut it's losses. I think they have a good plan.

I think some of those people never thought twice about buying the next apple product when it came out and look at the nook as a ridiculous upstart.

I think they will. We have reached a point where ebooks are a big part of the way books are sold, no turning back. They tried to make money selling the readers but lost money, costs were too high. Now they can focus on selling ebooks.

I love my nook HD, plan to get many good years out of it! When it wears out I'll buy whatever device reads nook books.

Donna | 126 comments I'm tired of listening to people who are naysayers. I like B&N, for books and for my simple touch. Will enjoy it for a long while. To each there own.

Jean French (jfrench55) | 82 comments Is it true that most ebooks (except Amazon ones) are ePub? I know that Apple's ebook are epubs also. So if this is true then we should be okay. I know that when ereader.com went away, I was able to bring my books to my Nook. I know that ebooks are a big profit for B&N so even if they don't make the readers, they will have someone who will. Also, if B&N goes under, someone will step in to pick up that business. At least that's my hope.

Christopher Conn (cmconn) | 135 comments They are basically the same but the nook ebooks and the kindle ebooks are coded so you can only read them with those ereaders. There are also nook and kindle apps that run on other devices.

You can also read regular ebooks on the nook and you can read kindle books on the nook HD readers.

There will always be a way to read B&N books, whether it's on nook readers or with another app on another kind of tablet.
