kirstin ✿ (shoutohdoroki) | 639 comments Damien led the way toward their porch and pressed the doorbell thrice, pretending to wait for someone to open the door for them. But in actual there really was no one home that would let them in. Seemingly impatient by their wait, he tapped his foot against the wooden floorboard before dropping his backpack and walking over to a pot at the corner. He lifted it and picked up the key hidden beneath. Trudging back to the front door, Damien wedged it through the whole. With a clicking sound he pushed it open. "Come in," he beckoned Kaelan as he stepped inside. "I thought my parents were home. They must still be at work." He smiled sheepishly at her. Damien didn't know what Kaelan would think of after this. Not that he worried about his image to her.

message 53: by [deleted user] (new)

Kaelan raised an eyebrow at Damien's impatient attitude. Maybe he did have a caring parent around somewhere... she tried not to dwell on the thought for too long and followed Damien inside, looking around in surprise. It was nothing like you would expect from the infamous Damien Hanley. It was a quaint home, neat and tidy and for some reason, she wondered if Damien had OCD. Feeling a little uncomfortable in her current surroundings, she clutched her backpack to her chest and followed him through the house, coming to a stop in a small living room.

kirstin ✿ (shoutohdoroki) | 639 comments "So... what do you want, Pizza or something else?" Damien asked as he clasped the telephone handle. Since he didn't know how to cook might as well just order for delivery. He knew he was being surprisingly hospitable for Kaelan despite the fact that she was the known campus nerd and that it might damage his reputation. But what was there to damage? Damien had long been established himself a name, and it wasn't something to be very proud of really. But he couldn't care less. Shutting off himself to others' opinions was his key to do the things he wanted to and be happy with it. Although he was aware that his doings were not very... healthy, to say the least, it was his choice. And it's all the mattered most. "Well?" he lifted up the phone handle so that Kaelan saw that he's waiting for her answer.

message 55: by [deleted user] (new)

"Oh um... sure, thanks." She finished uncertainly, not completely sure what to think of his hospitality. He seemed uncharacteristically nice right now, and she didn't want to ruin it. Gathering a little confidence, she took a seat on a soft, worn couch as Damien finished up the order. "Do both your parents live here?" Kaelan asked quietly, amber eyes gazing into Damien's. Suddenly, she didn't feel like studying which was a huge surprise in her case. Not wanting to make the situation too awkward, Kaelan took out most of the books from her back and spread them out on the coffee table.

kirstin ✿ (shoutohdoroki) | 639 comments After Damien placed his order he sauntered toward a single couch and sprawled over, pulling off his plaid polo in the process. Only his black V-neck shirt remained, emphasizing the well-defined muscle as it clung to its sleeves. He raked a hand through his dark brown hair, leaving it in a tousled look that somehow suited his character well. When he saw Kaelan took out a book he sighed and said, "You don't give up, do you?" But was actually glad that he had diverted the topic about his parents. Damien really didn't want to talk about them at the moment. Especially to someone he only had the chance to talk to just an hour ago.

message 57: by [deleted user] (new)

Kaelan felt a small tinge of pink rise to her cheeks as Damien pulled off the sweater, her eyes averting his well muscled body. She felt like she was intruding somehow, and rubbed her arm uncertainly. "Well we came here to study... right?" She winced, eyes cast downward avoiding any eye contact with the handsome devil of a guy. She noticed the way he avoided her question, but she didn't push it. Kaelan knew better than anyone that family was a touchy subject.

message 58: by kirstin ✿ (new)

kirstin ✿ (shoutohdoroki) | 639 comments Damien noticed a flustered Kaelan as he removed his polo and flashed her a toothy grin. "Haven't had a chance watching someone strip, eh?" Suddenly he was feeling rather playful. With only the two of them in the house he was free to do whatever the hell he wanted. Most of the time his father would be here to watch his every move, especially when he brought home one of his girlfriends. He hated being watched; it's a constant reminder that he wasn't someone to be trusted. His father always made him feel like he's still a kid. But... well, Damien had done nothing but show them how he's not someone to be trusted. Still it didn't stop him from his search of someone who's willing to believe him without the shadow of a doubt. That's all he'd been looking for. Apparently no one had got that.

message 59: by [deleted user] (new)

Kaelan flushed and ducked her head behind a waterfall of chestnut waves to hide it from Damien. "No... it's not really an appealing thought." She muttered, opening up one of the large textbooks. Kaelan flicked through the pages until she landed on the human anatomy. Obviously Damien wanted to focus on everything other than actual work, but she wasn't completely comfortable with what he had in mind. "What would you like to work on more- human anatomy or cell structure?" She asked, pulling out a black pencil case from her bag.

kirstin ✿ (shoutohdoroki) | 639 comments ((Gracie! I'm so sorry again. Stupid notifications >.>))

Damien couldn't hold it off any longer; he burst in a fit of laughter. For a moment only his cackles echoed around the living room, and then he realized he must be looking like an idiot laughing at something that was not even an amusing joke. What could he do? He had never seen someone this innocent in his entire life. Or maybe he had, he just didn't get to interact with them the way he had with Kaelan. It amazed him how this girl could know so much and yet know nothing of the real world. Or was he being overly judgmental? Perhaps some other time he could teach her what he knew in life. Get her involved with his stuffs. Bad Damien. Here he was again thinking about influencing a pure soul. Snapping out of his thoughts he leaned closer to her and replied to her question, "Hmm. They both sound... uninteresting. Got anything else with you?"

message 61: by [deleted user] (new)

((No problem ^.^ should we speed up a bit to the exciting part? I though that maybe someone knocks at the door and Damien goes into ninja-mode, then people break in with guns. He can take down a bunch of them then be cornered by one last bad guy, and Kaelan picks up a gun and shoots him. Waddya think?))

Kaelan narrowed her eyebrows at Damien's uncalled laughter. It was obviously directed at her and her compulsion to work, but she wasn't too bothered. Nothing as bad as she hadn't handled before. "Not really, if I can't do anything to your satisfaction, please, enlighten me." She muttered, a little sarcasm poking through the innocent demeanor. Kaelan had always had a feisty temper, though no one has quite managed to light the fuse like Damien can. She stood up abruptly, placing the books in her bag one by one then moving to what she hoped was the kitchen. Kaelan was parched, and developing a nasty headache from Damien's constant smirking, as attractive as it was.

kirstin ✿ (shoutohdoroki) | 639 comments Damien wasn't even surprised when Kaelan walked out on him, for that reaction was not foreign to him at all. People walk out of his life many times before that after a while, he'd gotten used to it. Or was tired the proper word? The point is, it always ends up that way, with people either walking away from him, or walking behind him. Take note: behind him, not alongside him. Damien never let anyone get to him that close. Not after what happened to him and --

A sudden rap on the door snapped him out of his trance. Why would someone knock on it when they could use the doorbell? Ah, it was probably the delivery boy. Perfect timing; Damien's stomach started its protest already. He backed away from the doorway to the kitchen. He hadn't even realized he was heading that way. Was he really about to follow Kaelan there? Brushing that thought away, he composed himself before making his way toward the front door. He yanked it open and said "About time." That's when he noticed he wasn't talking to a delivery boy. That's when he recognized the face of the one person he'd been trying to avoid for a week now. And he's not alone; three other people were with him.

message 81: by [deleted user] (new)

As Kaelan filled up the glass she found in a cupboard, she heard Damien's footsteps. At first they sounded like they were heading in her direction, then a knock reverberated through the house from the front door. She heard Damien hesitate, then change direction, a disappointed sigh escaping her lips. She knew there was some good in him- she just had to dig a little deeper to find it. Bringing the glass to her lips, she took a healthy mouthful before listening again. Damien hadn't spoken a word, or brought in the pizza either. Afraid he ditched her in his own house, Kaelan walked to the main entrance to see Damien standing in the doorway, a shocked expression on his face. "Damien..." She trailed off, all coherent thoughts disappearing into thin air as she saw the dreaded object in the grasp of the stranger at the door. In shock, the glass cup fell from her fingertips and smashed against the ground, her lips partially open.

kirstin ✿ (shoutohdoroki) | 639 comments ((I feel so bad... It always took me too long to reply >.>))

Don't come here, Kaelan. Do not - Damien was in the middle of his mental prayer when the subject of it emerged from the kitchen. She should not have come out. Wait, no... that's not it - he knew he should not have brought her here in the first place. Earlier when he thought of getting Kaelan involved in his stuffs this was not how he pictured it. But here she was standing in the middle of the conflict he supposed to be dealing himself. Suddenly deja vu swept over Damien. A sense of foreboding settled within him. Was it happening again? Without knowing it he clenched his fists, just as he did his jaws. He couldn't let the past repeat itself. Not now. Not ever. On top of it all Damien wondered how these men were able to locate him. He was always careful not to reveal his home to anyone involved in his 'business', but he had been ignoring them for about a week now. They must have gotten impatient.

The sound of glass shattering rang shrilly across the room. Damien had to get her out of here, but first he would have to try his luck. He didn't turn to face Kaelan when he heard his name. Instead he stepped casually toward the men and said, "Hey, I was about to contact you really. Can we talk about this later? My -" but then the biggest man stepped inside the house, eyeing Damien with dagger looks before his gaze settled on Kaelan.

message 83: by [deleted user] (new)

((Haha, don't worry about it ^.^))

Damien resumed a calm look, trying to get the men with guns to leave. The bigger guy at the back of the group pushed his way to the front, staring down Damien with a deadly glare. Almost in slow motion, the living hulk's eyes flicked to Kaelan's, and a hungry expression replaced the terrifying one. Not that it was anymore terrifying- the fact of ever being in the same house as these people made her want to faint. She backed away slowly, coming to a position where she was behind Damien, her hands and knees trembling uncontrollably.

The man who was obviously leading the group of killers was a few inches shorter than Damien, complete with squinty eyes and a balding scalp. "We have waited to long for the money, Mr Hanley. You have left us no further option than to take it by force... the girl will be a nice addition as well." The man smirked before pointing to his men then at the house. Kaelan was trembling in fear, unsure of what to do. Feeling an innate sense to trust Damien on this, she waited for his command. The guys were about to storm the house, one retracting his fist to punch someone- probably Damien- in the face.

message 84: by kirstin ✿ (last edited Jul 12, 2013 07:11AM) (new)

kirstin ✿ (shoutohdoroki) | 639 comments Before the other man could land a blow on his face, Damien raised his toned arm just in time to collide with a solid fist. "Whoa, whoa, whoa! Not my pretty face." He wasn't really worried about his face; he just wanted to lessen the tension building up inside the house. Damien knew this was no time for playfulness, though, and that these men could beat him into a pulp in a matter of seconds. Still, he was willing to put up a bloody fight if that's what it takes to get Kaelan out of here unscathed. Damien was never a 'Knight-in-Shining-Armor' type, but it was just the right thing to do. With Kaelan behind him, he reached for her, trying to secure her in his arms. "I'll pay you. I always do. Just leave her out of it." The tone he used was not a plea, but more of a casual deal. Damien couldn't afford to instill in their minds that Kaelan was of great importance to him. It would give them an idea to use her against Damien. And that's the last thing he ever wanted; to place some innocent individual in danger just by being acquainted with him. Again.

message 85: by [deleted user] (new)

As Damien pulled Kaelan into his arms, not as an embrace, but as a form of protection, she buried her face in his chest. The reality of the situation she was facing was utterly terrifying, though no tears escaped her eyes. She hadn't cried since she was a child, and that wouldn't change now. With a final nod, the man at the front signalled for his men to do something. Obviously it wasn't good, because the guy who had tried to punch Damien before took another swing at him, clocking him in the side of the head. The second burly man ripped Kaelan from his grasp, his hands dangerously close to the no-go zone. With a growl, Kaelan kicked into his shin as hard as she could, and it worked. The guy stumbled backward, his gun clattering to the floor as he clutched his shin in agony. Of course, the distraction only lasted for a second. He was back on his feet in a matter of seconds, following Kaelan up the stairs as her eyes opened wide in fear.

kirstin ✿ (shoutohdoroki) | 639 comments ((Hello Gracie! Just got back. Hope this post makes up for the wait ^^))

If there was one thing Damien had to be glad about at this moment, it was the mere fact that his parents were not home to witness everything that's unravelling under their own roof. They had no idea at all regarding their son's illegal dealings, so it would be much easier for him to formulate a believable account of today's unforeseen events. His parents used to trust what Damien had to say about things, but over time they learned that his words always contained lies and, since then, had been reluctant in believing him. Still he knew he had to try his luck... or the consequences would be dire.

As the other man charged toward Damien, he countered his attack using his opponent's momentum; dodging then burying his knee on his abdomen. A sharp sound slipped out of his mouth, but Damien ended it abruptly with a handful of fist against his jaw, making his head whiplash with its force. The man dropped unconscious to the ground.

One down, three more to -- no... Damien could only see two more with him at the living room. That's when he realized Kaelan was not beside him anymore. His eyes snapped toward the stairs just in time to see a burly figure disappearing into the second floor. His heart pounded against his chest with an apprehension he hadn't experienced in a while. Grabbing the vase sitting on a side table, he threw it towards the two men's direction without really aiming. Then Damien bolted up the stairs.

((Awesome ^.^))

Kaelan heard a crash downstairs and a worry for Damien spread through her. Sure, he annoyed the hell out of her, but she didn't want him to die. The overly muscled man advanced upon her, the same hungry gaze she had seen in his eyes downstairs. It made her realise that this was reality- these men were capable of horrible things. Scared for her life, among other things, Kaelan was frozen in fear. it was like all of her bones had locked up, her amber eyes wide and unblinking. The man approached her, his hand reaching out to curl around her throat. "Poor girly, you shouldn't have come here today- we will make you regret the day you were born." He hissed into her ear, then let his tongue flick out onto her flesh. The action disgusted Kaelan greatly, but her heartbeat quickened in realization what he was planning to do with her. Half hoping for Damien's safety and for someone to freeze time, Kaelan shut her eyes and begged to be put out of her misery.

message 91: by kirstin ✿ (new)

kirstin ✿ (shoutohdoroki) | 639 comments Even with the little distraction Damien had pulled off, the two men still managed to catch up to him at the stairs. He gripped the bannister tightly, hoisting himself up in the process, then whirled around just in time to swing his left foot in an arch. A knocked-out tooth came flying into the air as the man toppled backwards, and onto his companion until they landed with a thundering crash at the base of the stairs. Not wasting any time to check on them, Damien rushed toward the second floor. He immediately located Kaelan and the biggest man at the narrow hallway, with the latter evidently molesting Kaelan. Rage instantly fueled the fire sleeping within him. A rage long buried in the depths of his being. Damien might have been known for his short fuse, but he never let great anger take over him at all. They were reservef for the best. Or rather, for the worst. With a long cry of his emotion he lunged himself toward him and shouted, "You son of a bitch!" Then they grappled on the floor.

Kaelan was thrown back, her head knocking hard into the door frame. She blinked slowly, black spots covering her vision. Worriedly, she let her gaze flick over the room until it landed on Damien and the bigger guy, and a thread of worry laced through her. Kaelan was emotionally disturbed, possibly concussed and a whole lot more, so she looked around for a weapon to defend herself. It happened that right next to her was the sleek material of a gun, and it was calling out to her. Kaelan looked back to the two men grappling for the top position, and it was painfully obvious that paired with his weight and strength, the huge man had the advantage. Not knowing what she was doing, Kaelan took the gun in two trembling hands and pointed it at the man who's back was to her. After taking a deep breath, she pulled the trigger. A loud noise peeled through the room and Kaelan gaped in horror of what she had done. The man on top of Damien had a huge bullet hole in his back, blood dripping from it. She brought her trembling hands to cover her mouth to prevent a terrified scream from leaving them, for the fact that she had killed a human being. Footsteps sounded from below the stairs exiting the house, and Kaelan thought it was either from the sound of the gun or they thought Damien was dead. Her eyes were wide and unblinking, sprawled against the ground, Kaelan looked nothing more than a disturbed porcelain doll.

At the sound of a gunshot Damien automatically recoiled; his eyes, which always gleamed with mischief and humor, were now swimming in a sea of horror and fear. He braced himself for the sharp pain that would surely explode from whichever part of his body had been shot, but, after a moment of anticipation, nothing came. Not quite believing it, he ran his hands all over his torso. He was more confused than relieved after finding absolutely nothing. He was certain he heard a gunshot... or did he just imagine it? His disoriented gaze lingered around the scenario before it came to rest on the bulky figure lying bloodied and motionless on the floor. A moment ago Damien was grappling with him, but everything happened too fast he had no idea what he had just done. Then he remembered a gunshot, him miraculously unscathed, and... Kaelan. Pieces of puzzle clicked into place.

His now concerned oculars snapped up to where Kaelan stood staring in space, hands on her side, clutching a pistol. Almost instantly he bolted upright and scampered toward her. Damien held her shoulders gently and turned her body to face him. "Oh, god... Kaelan. Are you alright? Did he hurt you?"

message 97: by [deleted user] (new)

Kaelan felt her body being moved, the warm feel of Damien's hands against her skin lacing through her senses. A few words left his mouth, but Kaelan couldn't hear anything. Her eyes were glued to the body sprawled on the ground, the lifeless body that she had killed. A choking sound became caught in her throat, horror and disbelief clouding her eyes. She had killed somebody. The shock of that realization flooded her, causing Kaelan to collapse into the ground. SHe couldn't move- all she could do was stare at the body. He hadn't deserved to die... what if he had a wife, waiting for him to come home? It was unlikely, yet Kaelan had not felt a worse feeling in her entire life. She could feel the weight of the guilt settle on her shoulders, and she wondered if the burden would ever be lifted. Gorgeous eyes filled her view, those belonging to Damien and her eyes began to glaze over with tears. Kaelan never cried in front of anybody, but she felt vulnerable and distraught. The racking sobs followed, her hands moving to cover her face.

Damien had seen people break down in front of him in the past, but no one was able to pinch his cold heart the way Kaelan did. He could feel - and tell - that her conscience was destroying her in the inside. Her hands would now be tainted with blood forever; the blood of the person Damien was supposed to be dealing himself. It was all his fault! His inner self was screaming with rage. Rage not directed to the men, but to himself. None of these would have happened if he just acted with extreme cautions. He brought this to him and to Kaelan. Kaelan, who was such an innocent lady... An hour ago all she had to worry about was getting Damien to study, but now it was so much more. Something he knew she couldn't handle herself. "Sssssh," he cooed as he gathered her trembling body into his arms, right hand caressing the chestnut mane. "It's gonna be alright." There was no guarantee that it would be. At least not at this moment. However, Damien made a vow that he would do anything and everything to help her get through this. No matter what it takes. "Sssssh," he cooed once more, his chin resting on top of her head. For a while they stayed in that position, with him trying to comfort her. Still Damien knew they had to get out of here. As he scooped Kaelan's face into his hands, he fixated his now determined gaze on Kaelan's terrified ones. "Do you trust me?" he asked with a solemn voice.
