With a true pen-name, yes. When it's just a variant of the author's real name and there is no reason to believe the author is deliberately keeping the two names as separate identities, there's no reason to do that. Determine which version of the author's name is most used, and go with that. If it seems to be about the same, the more complete version (Ronald B. Marks) is better, because that way both versions are likely to come up in searches.

Or/and should there be a notation/link put in the edition description cross-referencing to the other? A Librarian Note for the edition?
Or should the Ron Marks editions (newer) just have the author changed to Ronald B Marks and put in that profile?
Or leave the editions in the 2 separate profiles with no cross referencing?
The Librarian Manual, for this particular instance, says the first option, I believe, with the second option advisable . However, when this type of combination comes up, librarians seem to mostly do the fourth option; which never combines the editions. Sometimes a librarian will do the third option.
