It's been a long while since I discussed tags but yes, the method of tagging does depend on the link type. The & and-? Thing was explained at one time and is as you say. Unfortunately amazon have a rather dubious rule about Friends and family and since the group has started the tags have worked less well because amazon sees repeats orders and eventually concludes we are friends. I'm not sure how they decide but it is their decision and not likely it can be influenced. For instance if I complained that I wasn't getting commission for Patti, they ask how I know she ordered, I say she told me, they say *ah, she must be your friend then.

Rosen is correct, although if you've already clicked on a link there's usually the '?' there already.
That is the first I've heard about a friends and family exemption. How utterly daft. Any business that uses tags is likely to repeatedly attract the same clients.

But if you tell us who to contact, Simon, we can all write Amazon and assure them that not only are we not your friends, we all know that you don't have any friends! :-)
Bought a little laminator and paper cutter for Rainbows (the bundle was cheaper than just the laminator in its own!) and just remembered to add the tag in the nick of time :)

All those wonderful posts are making me dizzy as I am completely non-tech and being a bit dim this morning too. I am not clear whether you put the tag on when you are buying something, where exactly and also does it apply to my own books on Amazon?Supplementary question - I have seen something on Goodreads about linking your books on your Goodreads author profile straight to Amazon but have never been able to find it again. Would welcome some info/advice. If this is the wrong thread, sorry - could you point me to the right one please. Thanks.
All you do is copy and paste the amazon link into a post then add &tag=ethings-21 onto the end of the link before you click 'post'
Please do ask any questions if this isn't clear.
Sorry Patti. I'm still not clear. Since this tread is primarily about the affiliate link, I may be asking my question in the wrong place.I don't do html, so wouldn't know how to add a tag for the affiliate. What I was looking for was a sort of banner/header/link that I've seen at the top of Goodreads pages that seems to indicate that you can link your books directly to Amazon so that anyone going onto the author page can just click to go directly to Amazon and purchase.
Hi, hope I'm still a participant? Have been booged down/tied up with all kinds of dreary stuff, so have not contributed of late. I'm also non-tech but trying to remedy it. Everybody assumes so much knowledge of IT. Verydifficult to cope.

There are also a number of us who are blessed (cursed?) with a high level of IT skills.
Never be afraid of asking questions. There is always people who are more than happy to help.

Good.

I just thought I'd look up the rules of this group, and one of the things you say is 'anything goes'. Well my followed Facebook pages are getting invaded by both sides of the EU debate, and as I've already made my mind up, I see that as a bit of an intrusion. Plus, politics tends to divide communities, not that a decision on the EU should be regarded as politics per se (IMO), but we can't have that, can we! (I thought politics was taboo anyway, but I can find where the rules say that, so perhaps I only assumed it.)
I can only see things hotting up as we approach the referendum date, so how about a bit of guidance?
eg: NO referendum discussion,
or set up a page where only such posts can be aired. Thus we can choose to ignore it or join in.
I'm not quite sure what you're saying, Pete.If you're talking about Facebook, only you can control what gets shown on your pages.
As far as I'm aware, the only place in our group where anything like the EU debate is being discussed is in the 'take it outside' thread.
Please send me a link to what you're feeling concerned about.
You can send me a private message any time.
What I meant was, Patti, I didn't want to see Goodreads get invaded by EU stuff the way Facebook has recently. (The mods on some of my pages are very lax). I haven't seen any sign of EU campaigning on GR yet, and wondered if someone should, or had already, headed it off.Perhaps I'm worrying about nothing as we're all too well mannered on here to abuse the platform.
Never heard of the 'take it outside thread', until now. 'Scuse me while I go off and be nosy!
I'm pleased that we attract sensible, open minded people who are always open to discussing differing points of view in a polite manner. We still have way too much custard discussion, though.

Patti (baconater) wrote: "Of course it does. I apply discipline fairly and equality."is this equally as in the same amount of discipline per individual, or is it same amount of discipline per body area to be spanked, or same amount of discipline per kilo of person being disciplined?
Hi, sorry but would you mind explaining a bit more? When I buy books & Kindles from Amazon and I write a review, do I put the &tag=ethings-21 onto the review? Or do I repost the review onto Goodreads and add it then? Thanks
No, you don't add it to the review. You add it to the link url of the item you are buying, before you buy it.Doesn't have to be just books or kindles. Anything you buy through Amazon.
