Lina (booksnotlovers) 02:02 in the morning. Discussing theatre and acting with someone who seriously does not have a clue. And with me being a theatre student and all, he pretty much doesn't even understand that he's getting burned badly. He's being to subjective. "If you don't like a Doll's House it's going to suck either way if it's a professional performance or an amateur performance." And I'm just. No.

Addy | 379 comments Had a great night. Just me and my kindle:) TTFN!

message 303: by Evans (new)

Evans Light (evanslight) have a good night, everyone. Been making some progress on my buddy read of CHOIR OF ILL CHILDREN, and had a fun evening with the family at Wild Wings Cafe, where my kids essentially took over the karaoke operation and brought the house down. Who knew I had such extroverted children. When they all got up onstage to sing and dance GANGNAM STYLE, a whole other threshold over self-confidence had been crossed. They had a dozen people on stage with them dancing along before the were done. Haven't laughed that hard in a while!

Ice Bear (neilar) At work for the past hour and waiting for back up to finish, yesterday was the hottest day of the year, today God is playing his drum kit.

No doubt, Cindy. You can't be doing that; it has a way of a catching up with you.

4:47 p.m. and I'm not feeling well at all. Was OK at work. Don't know what happened there. Anyway, I'm gonna make an attempt to read for a bit, but I might end up just going to bed.

When I used to read paper books I'd read until I dozed off and dropped the book. Then, I knew it was time to call it a night.

Addy | 379 comments Hope u feel better Cindy:) Not feeling that great myself. Gonna hit the hay, but wanted to leave with a ?, mostly because I'm just curious. Does anyone often read with a spouse or a close friend on occasion? I was thinking that would be kinda neat, but mine doesn't like to read. Go figure. Night all:)

message 309: by Addy (new)

Addy | 379 comments Chuck, I do that myself, except I wake up when the phone slaps me in the face...lol.

message 310: by Evans (new)

Evans Light (evanslight) Feel better Cindy! I came home this afternoon feeling blase myself, managed to catch a nap and second wind. Finished up A CHOIR OF ILL CHILDREN. Good book, but not horror and definitely not for everybody.

I read with my kids sometimes, sitting side by side on the couch, them with their books and me with mine, but my wife doesn't enjoy reading much.

I know. Go figure.

My wife and I used to take turns reading to each other. She insisted on reading Little House on the Prairie books, and that was also the only reason I ever heard the first Harry Potter book (yes, I'm the one who hasn't read, or seen the movies, of Harry Potter). It was also interesting to read Legion by William Peter Blatty, and The Poet by Michael Connelly. Gives you a different perspective on some of the darker books.

Courtney | 40 comments My older son sometimes sits beside me and reads, but my younger son is just learning to read (although he loves being read to), and my husband rarely reads :/

Rick, I've never read Harry Potter either. There was actually a discussion about this on the SK group awhile back, and there are a few of us!

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments Cindy, hope you are feeling better. Implemented your edits last night - all of which were necessary fixes.. Thanks again. A little tweaking and it will be ready for birth! As for what I am up to? Work, work, work.

message 316: by Addy (new)

Addy | 379 comments Thanks for the input guys. I really hope one of my sons, if not both, catch the reading bug from me. Right now they are little, but my 4 yr old likes to help me find scary books and likes to be read to:) Evans, do any of ur family members enjoy what u write or helps with the writing process?

Lol...when I bought my tablet, I tried a few out in the shop to see which would hurt less when it hit me in the face... the Samsung won!...I also have a pillow on the floor beside the bed...we have hard floors and the tablet has hit the deck a couple of times when I fell asleep reading!

message 318: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Seaberg (cricketseaberg) | 241 comments I like the hard cover I have for my Kindle. I can lay on my side and set it up like a tent next to me, and just reach out and touch the screen to turn pages. That way I don't have too much worry about it falling - on my face or on the floor! Ingenuity!! LOL!

message 319: by Sharon (new)

Sharon (shazzacatzz) | 45 comments good idea Brenda...I can do the same with my tablet cover :-)

I didn't get around to HP until very recently. As a matter of fact, I'm still reading the first book.

Addy | 379 comments So here's my 5 seconds of gripe time. I'm getting ready to go to my house church which was suppose to be a family thing and now my husband has bailed...for good. I'm just going with my son now:( Also I think my son put soap on my toothbrush and I now have a soapy aftertaste. Really hoping to get some major reading in tonight!

message 322: by [deleted user] (new)

4:03 p.m. and I just got home from the hospital. I have been dealing with a LOT of pain in my hip, leg, and foot on the left side of my body for a couple of months now. Told my family Dr. that my body really hurts and he gave me Naproxen 500 mg. That helped for a little while, but then I just started trying to deal with the pain on my own again. Well, today my body finally decided that I wasn't going to ignore the pain any longer. My left leg just gave out at work not once, but twice. Since my Dr. is not open today, I went to the E.R. Told the Dr. that the pain wakes me up from a dead sleep five or six times a night. She said she is surprised that I sleep at all. Diagnosis - Degenerative Joint Disease A.K.A. severe arthritis in my hip and lower spine. Was told that it can become debilitating to the point I won't be able to work. WTF!! Told to be off from work the rest of the day today and tomorrow. Sorry for the rant, but I'm most fearful of the day I lose my independence and this just scares me a bit.

So sorry to hear about this, Cindy. I have been dealing with DDD in my neck for several years. It was caused by a rather traumatic car accident. I have also been advised that eventually I will be reduced to living on disability, so I can understand what you are going through. They told me surgery might fix it, but you can imagine the words neck and surgery don't mix well with me. But sometimes I am reduced to agonizing and spewing profanity at the pain, especially when I am at work (in a cubicle at a computer) or writing (which is pretty much the same situation). Hang in there.

Thanks Adam for listening to my rant and being a good friend. Sorry you are going through this as well. Yes, she mentioned surgery, but I have not insurance. Just plan on taking it one day at a time AND following directions for once. I'm gonna listen to the Dr. and do as told.

That sounds really bad. hope they're able to control your pain

message 328: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Joycedale! I'll just have to see what the family doc has to say in the morning and go from there.

Addy - I am so sorry the family time didn't work out. Family time is extremely important to me. On the flip side, and I apologize in advance. It took my mind off my own physical pain for a few minutes thinking about soap on a toothbrush. Now I'm gonna be cautious anytime the grandkids have been over to visit.

message 329: by GeneralTHC (last edited Jul 24, 2013 03:21PM) (new)

GeneralTHC I just about broke my neck in a car wreck a year ago. I broke my back in two places just right below it, T1 and T3, I think they said. It healed on its own without surgery and I have been fine for the most part but lately it's been bothering me pretty bad. It mainly hurts in my shoulder/neck area. When I did it, though, it hurt in my chest.

message 330: by [deleted user] (new)

Ouch!

message 331: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments Chuck, in the same accident where my neck got messed up, I also managed to break my L1. That is the bottommost vertebra (sp?). It healed on its own, too. The neck, that's a different story. It feels like someone jammed a bunch of broken glass inside my spine. My wife has begun to call me Mr. Wonder because I spend so much time rolling my neck from side to side.

message 332: by Rick (new)

Rick Shepard Yikes! I can't believe you guys have had these injuries. This is starting to sound like that scene in Jaws, where Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfus and Robert Shaw are sitting around comparing injuries of increasing severity. Only worse. They were having beer while doing it, it sounds like you guys could use some too!

message 333: by [deleted user] (new)

Attempting to read for a bit, but the pain meds are making it a little hard. Still, I would rather be in less pain and worry about catching up on reading later if need be.

message 334: by Brittany (new)

Brittany (crackedx_spine) Worst I've had done was brain surgery...

message 335: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments My attempt to put the finishing touches on a new story is a total fail. I can't seem to focus when there is no peace and quiet in my house. I guess a beer does sound rather tempting right now. Hopefully I can finish up this weekend if I can find a hole to crawl in.

Oh man, that sounds awful--sorry to hear that Adam.

Most of my pain is in my shoulder and sometimes the side of my neck sort of tingles. But you know sometimes I go quite a while and forget I was ever injured. Then there are days like the last few where it really bothers me if I sit like in the same position at a desk too long or whatnot. Maybe I'll get to where I can predict rain, haha.

It's amazing how the human body is so resilient and yet so fragile.

message 337: by Adam (new)

I think the thing to do is point out to your husband that if your books are placed in cases along the outside walls, it will increase your insulation value, and cut down on energy costs, thus making it energy efficient and cost effective to buy more books!
