Addy | 379 comments Had to kick myself out of bed and resigned to the living room. I won't stop hacking! Almost hacked my dinner out! Anyone do anything for a cough that works?

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments Just watched You're Next. I feel like I had a lobotomy. I give it 2 out of 5 stars for movies in general and 3.2 as a slasher flick. It was like High Voltage mixed with Scream and a little Straw Dogs. Lots of potential never reached. It was a fun movie anyway, for reasons I won't write down here, as to do so would be to spoil it.
I watched the highly praised Spirited Away with my daughter recently, and we both loved it. Thanks to Evans for the rec. I am not a fan of anime, but this movie worked on many levels for both of us. Emily loves anime and she thanks you for enlightening me a little. She now has a fat list of movies she thinks I will like.

Kate Take care of yourself, Addy. Get plenty of rest.

I PM'd you about some books. If you want any of them to read while you're resting up, let me know.

Hope you feel better soon Addy, I think everyone is coming down with this flu. How are your kids now? I hope they are feeling a bit better.

I made that icing Joycedale and it worked so well:-) my kids and grandson loved the cake as well, I made the cake a coconut one which they all love. They all requested more though!

Addy | 379 comments My kids are doing better, thanks Angie! My little one actually had an allergic reaction to his medicine, and was prescribed a different antibiotic and ended up with a double ear infection. He was so pitiful, with red splotches all over his body. So much better today!

Poor little guy. I hope he feels better soon. My husband had a infection last yr and was allergic to the antibiotic they gave him, but we didn't know that. They ended up airlifting him to a bigger hospital because they thought he was having a heart attack

My daughter had a growth spurt and i didnt even realize it lol. My mom came over and they haven't seen each other since thanksgiving, Alexis is 2 inches taller than mom now.

message 1615: by Angie (new)

Angie | 623 comments Its amazing how kids grow so fast! My grandson Jamie outgrew me a year ago, I couldn't believe it:-) He's 14 now, and doing really well.

message 1616: by Angie (new)

Angie | 623 comments I've just been on Candy crush saga game again, I die all the time but its really addictive, lol. I'm trying to play the plants v zombies game and I'm so crap at it! So I'm back reading again.

message 1617: by ☆Joycedale☆ (new)

☆Joycedale☆ | 307 comments I like plants vs zombies. Never tried candy crush after I saw all my friends get addicted to it. I'm making dinner and playing around on gr

Okay, this is going to sound weird, but my Nana taught us an old-time remedy. If you make a cup of tea, put a good dose of apple cider vinegar in it, and cut that with a little honey. It sounds bizarre, but I've always found it doesn't taste as bad as it sounds, and it helps with both sinus congestion and coughing!

message 1619: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments It sounds like a hot toddy, Rick. Just sub whiskey for the cider. Either way works, but the toddy will help you sleep, and should be served hot, of course.

Rick Shepard Adam wrote: "It sounds like a hot toddy, Rick. Just sub whiskey for the cider. Either way works, but the toddy will help you sleep, and should be served hot, of course."

Sounds about right. Even if you're still sick, you probably feel better about it:)

message 1621: by Addy (new)

Addy | 379 comments Hmm. Good idea guys. I will try it! Just need the vinegar or whiskey.

message 1622: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments Got any down home - old school - hand me down - mama said remedies for fractured vertebrae? I would love one of those.

message 1623: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments My wife offered to walk on my back.... good grief!

message 1624: by Rick (new)

Rick Shepard Well, I'm pretty sure the whiskey is a good painkiller, regardless of the issue!! Sooo, what kind of mood was your wife in when she offered the "massage"?:X

message 1625: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments That is her good mood, Rick! ;)

message 1626: by ☆Joycedale☆ (new)

☆Joycedale☆ | 307 comments Lol your wife sounds awesome!

message 1627: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments One of my favorite books, Misty.

message 1628: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments Yeah, she is Joycedale. She married me and that pretty much says it all.

message 1629: by Angie (new)

Angie | 623 comments I'm not doing much either, my cat was trying to scratch her way out my bedroom window a few minutes ago. She sounded like Danny Glick trying to get in his window in Salem's lot! She's couldn't get out so she's sat on my feet now. Trying to finish shadow of the wind.

message 1630: by Rick (new)

Rick Shepard Angie wrote: "I'm not doing much either, my cat was trying to scratch her way out my bedroom window a few minutes ago. She sounded like Danny Glick trying to get in his window in Salem's lot! She's couldn't get ..."

Yikes the reference to Danny Glick was creepy. I think you should let Adam borrow your pet, then instead of his wife walking on him, he could have a cat scan:)

message 1631: by Angie (new)

Angie | 623 comments It what she sounds like though, it is a bit creepy when she does it, lol. I'm sat watching Blade 2 on DVD, the face splitting vampires are nasty!

message 1632: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments Good one, Rick.

message 1633: by Addy (new)

Addy | 379 comments Kind of a crappy day today. I'm gonna do some reading and make some coffee. That always seems to do the trick:) Angie, thanks for making my day yesterday! You sound comfy with your cat....maybe I need a pet:)

message 1634: by Angie (new)

Angie | 623 comments Its 7am here and my cat woke me by taping me with her paw. She does this a lot now when she wants food. Addy she's such a big softy, a very happy cat. I've never really known one like her. All she does is purr and snuggle down next to me:-)

Would you have a pet with two small children? I had a cat but didn't get a dog until they were a little bit older. And I rescued her as she was being kept in a small bedroom and hit. So I took her home with me. Why was your day crappy?

message 1635: by Addy (new)

Addy | 379 comments Just crappy weather and kids were driving me crazy! Lol. I had a cat once and it was a beautiful white Persian but we gave it away when our first child was born. I don't think I would get a cat now, but maybe when kids are grown, for company. Miss cozying with my kitty. He was such a good cat, but didn't take well to the baby.

message 1636: by Addy (new)

Addy | 379 comments Got a copy of It, Lost Boy Lost Girl by Straub, The Listeners by Pike, and a copy of To Kill a Mocking Bird at GW today:)

☆Joycedale☆ | 307 comments Well this sucks. Its 10 degrees out and our furnace quit. Just called the landlord they're going to try to get someone here 2day.

message 1640: by Angie (new)

Angie | 623 comments That is bad, at least when my boiler broke I could still use the heating. And you've got little kids as well, hopefully it'll be fixed tomorrow.
I'm not doing much, I picked up Salem's lot on DVD today for £1 so I think I'm going to put that on. Then the cat can scratch the windows at the same time as danny glick and scare me bad,lol

message 1641: by ☆Joycedale☆ (last edited Jan 23, 2014 04:13PM) (new)

☆Joycedale☆ | 307 comments The hvac guy just left yay :-) turns out the electric ignition in it had went out.

its been so long since I read salems lot and I never saw the movie, is Danny the baby?

message 1642: by Angie (new)

Angie | 623 comments He's the young boy that infects all his family, and the scene where he's floating outside someone's window tapping on it all vamped up gave me nightmares when I was a kid! But I think that's what influenced me in my reading choices. I started raiding my mums books and read a lot of John Saul and James Herbert's early work as well as Stephen kings books as they were released.

message 1643: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments Poor Angie, hunted by Danny Glick... I can relate. That was pretty scary as a kid. I am on the lookout for a cheap copy of that myself.

message 1644: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments Glad your heat got fixed, Joycedale; it was so cold here today I saw a lawyer with his hands in his OWN pockets!

message 1645: by ☆Joycedale☆ (new)

☆Joycedale☆ | 307 comments Lol best joke ever!

message 1646: by Addy (new)

Addy | 379 comments Maybe a buddy read for Salems lot? I found a copy and it was pricey. Maybe because of the cover? Idk, but I've never read it or seen the movie. It'll prob be a reread though.

message 1647: by Angie (last edited Jan 24, 2014 07:03AM) (new)

Angie | 623 comments I'd buddy read Salem's lot, its been a while since I read it. A few years back when the last dark tower book was released I bought a reprint of Salem's lot in hardback. Its had more put in the book but I've still got the original paperback so it won't be a problem. I think he just wanted to put more of Father Callahan in because he was in the dark tower.

I bought the miniseries from a second hand game shop, they sell of films for cheap as well. I got lots yesterday including the remake of The Omen, the special edition of Species, Kentucky Fried Zombies and The Host all for £5.

message 1648: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments I am warching the miniseries right now.

message 1649: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments Salems Lot is one I would reread as well. It has been a loooong time.

message 1650: by Angie (new)

Angie | 623 comments I still like the mini series! I've got most of SKs TV shows and films on DVD. I liked Rose Red as well.
