I marked that to read last week. Actually, I marked several of those books. I also want to read AND THE BAND PLAYED ON and Elton John has a book out about the AIDS epidemic too that I want to read. The guy who wrote CUTTIN FOR STONE, Abraham Verghese, is a doctor (IIRC) and he has a book about AIDS too that I bet is really good. Lately I have become really interested in AIDS and cancer. I think we are pretty close to a cure for AIDS. There has been a few people cured actually.

Cindy, so glad your son will be OK. You sure have had a lot to handle lately! **Hugs and good wishes**
Anybody want to trade lives for a week or two? Now my poor Jeff is really ill with the flu :-(. Oh well, I'm looking at it this way - nowhere to go but up. Gonna cook a bite to eat, take a shower, and read for an hour or so before my nightly running begins.

Yikes Cindy. I think, at this point, the book of Job should be required reading. Proof there is light at the end of the tunnel.
You know what Rick, it has been a while. Great idea!

Yeah, lets do a Buddy Read on Job, I've read it many, many, times, read scholarly interpretations of it even, and I certainly didn't come away from it thinking there was light at the end of the tunnel. Not that the Book of Job is necessarily proof of anything... it is quite a fascinating book, though.
Chuck wrote: "Terri wrote: "It's called Borrowed Time: An AIDS Memoir by Paul Monette--a story of a gay couple very early on in the epidemic. Very powerfully written."

Chuck, I read As the Band Played On and it was outstanding. I learned so much about the gay community and how promiscuity developed because straight society wouldn't tolerate long-term loving gay relationships. I also learned about how the Reagan administration worked actively against research against the disease and how it's homophobia was devastating during the early years. A truly excellent book.

It's also been a while since I read it, but doesn't God restore Job's health and provide him with wealth greater than it was before the trials?

Would that make it all right? Yeah, that's the standard Evangelical take on it, but I don't buy it. I mean, children can't be replaced as if they're cattle or something. And why were they murdered to begin with? Why was Job deprived of his property and physically and mentally tormented, why was all this suffering brought upon Job? Because of a bet with the Satan. So God can make a point. That is pretty brutal, I think. Job, who is the most righteous man in the world, knew it wasn't right too, and God shows up in a whirlwind and overwhelms Job with his Allmightiness. You, Job are a peon, and I am God. You know, I can't help but think about that quote from Epicurus when I read this story: “Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?"

Grandma and I watched several of those. We both always enjoyed Hitchcock, and his token appearances in each of the films. Did you enjoy?

The second one is good. Ties in with the first in some scenes in a unique way. A lot of horror cliches, though.

Thanks a lot, Jason.
I have decided to read just two books at a time. One ebook and one hard copy. I plan to concentrate on the ebooks I've gotten free from either new or struggling authors. Plan to read for a while tonight and go out for a bit. Have a few things to do.

I saw INSIDIOUS 2 last weekend after much anticipation. I enjoyed it, but the first one was much better. The sequel was more interesting/amusing than scary. No genuine chills or thrills for anyone whose already seen a handful of horror films, but my young teen boys loved every minute of it. I hear they've already greenlighted the third installment. Hopefully it'll bring back the scares.

Biting nails now! Stopped smoking today and I'm going nuts.

Who needs to eat? : )
I've accepted the fact that collecting books is officially my hobby. At least I stay out of trouble by collecting used paperbacks instead of rare collector's editions.

Congratulations, Cindy. I have made it 3 weeks as of tomorrow. It has now become a point of pride. You can do this!!

I agree Evans. I certainly can do without food. And if I get really hungry, I take another bite of that Bentley Little book The Vanishing. It tastes so much better than it reads.

Thanks Adam! And congrats to you! I can't even imagine three weeks right now. Just taking it one day, or hour, at a time right now.

Thanks for the support. It means a lot to me. We're in this together buddy. I would imagine that the worst of it is probably over for you?

Gonna sign off GR's for a little while and read some. I have to work in the morning, so it might be tomorrow before I can post again. Hope everyone had a great day!

I loved The Last Exorcism, haven't seen the second one yet.
