Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments My wife and daughter are so wonderful. They are doing everything for me while I heal.

Well I plan to watch some football over the holiday weekend. Fairly certain that I will work Saturday. But, LOTS of football to watch Sunday and Monday, hopefully. Haven't really checked the schedules yet. In the meantime, I plan on finishing Swan Song tonight and making more progress in Devil's Knot: The True Story of the West Memphis Three. Devil's Knot has got me rattled to the core. Such bias and lack of professionalism by the police department!

Take em' with you and make them run while you ride the bike. Gets the nervous energy out. Just kidding, but it's a thought anyway.

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments Good one Cindy! I will have to try that. I have spent the last four hours watching my daughter cartwheel roundoff hand walk, you name it. When I heal up I'm going to try this trick of yours.

I can relate to watching the cartwheels, etc. My granddaughter is trying out for the cheerleading team and I had to watch all of her cheers over and over the other day.

Evans Light (evanslight) My Addiction to Used Books, installment #472, Happy Labor Day everybody edition:

Some nice finds, including a first edition, first printing paperback of The Drive-In, Clive Barker's Books of Blood, Vols. 1-3, the collections Dark Delicacies II and Haunted: Dark Delicacies III, plus a very interesting behind-the-scenes Star Wars book that is currently steeply discounted on Amazon, Creating the Worlds of Star Wars: 365 Days. My horror library is fleshing out nicely. Feel free to stop by and borrow something! : )

Well I got a phone call after work and it was my boss. I have to be at work at 4:30 a.m. tomorrow. Yuck! However, there is a good side to this equation. It means that I can get the weekend work over early and not return until Tuesday. I usually only get one day off. I will have all day Sunday and Monday. Plus, I get part of the day off tomorrow. I won't be online much tonight because I have to get up at 3:00 a.m. Just wanted to drop by and say hi. I started reading Saint at work because both Dustin and myself wanted to read it. Talk to you folks tomorrow. I'm gonna check one more group real quick and I'm off here for the day.

message 809: by Evans (new)

Evans Light (evanslight) Have a great weekend, Cindy. Talk to you soon.

You have some incredible luck with used book shopping. I've read Books of Blood and The Drive In, but I've never read the Dark Delicacies collections. They look great!

message 811: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm off work today and tomorrow. I am so excited because it is rare that I have two days off. Plan on taking one of those days and doing nothing but reading and of course eating. Family will probably have a cookout today or tomorrow so I need to make some quick phone calls. Hope everyone has a great holiday weekend.

Evans and Adam - I hope your mother is doing better.

message 812: by Addy (new)

Addy | 379 comments Lol. Cindy that is a great idea but my kids are little and wont even ride on the attached camper:(

message 813: by [deleted user] (new)

I love kids Addy! Mine are grown, but I do have eight grandchildren. Last weekend I visited with my son and my daughter was there also. AND, all six of the grandkids! In ways it's better when they're grown, but in ways you miss them being little. I love being a grandmother. I see them when I can, but have my alone time once I go home.

message 814: by Sam (new)

Sam Arnold (samharnold) Cindy.

Do you children and grandchildren read. I am interested because both my mum and me read but my younger sister never caught the bug.

message 815: by [deleted user] (new)

Not really Sam. My son used to read a lot when he was younger, but I think it is more of a time issue with both my son and daughter now. My daughter has five children at home and my son has three. However, my daughter-in-law is a reading machine. Even with the kids, she can read a book a day. One of my granddaughters likes to read quite a bit.

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments Day 2 for me with no cigarettes. I am definitely feeling the nicotine withdrawals. This is the longest I have gone without one in at least six or seen years.

I concur with Cindy and Brenda. Good luck with quitting. Slowly, you'll begin to feel healthier all around.

message 820: by [deleted user] (new)

I know before my mother passed away I quit for a little over a year. After she passed the stress just got to me I guess. Not really an excuse I know, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

message 821: by Rick (new)

Rick Shepard My father smoked for more than 40 years, and then tried off and on to stop. When he found he had emphysema, he quit and never smoked again. It allowed him a lot more time then he would have had otherwise. I learned from his experience how hard it can be to quit cigarettes, and I have a lot of respect for you. I know you can do it!!

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments You guys are the best. I have been wanting to put an end to this nasty habit for years now.

Thanks Courtney. It is day 3 and the cravings are still pretty intense. I'm trying to just walk away from them cold turkey. It's working so far, but I know when I go back to work tomorrow it will be my real test.

message 825: by Evans (new)

Evans Light (evanslight) Adam, if you can't manage to quit on your own, I have a good agency I can refer you to for help.
It's called QUITTERS, Inc. Let me know if you need the number.

Evans Light (evanslight) If you don't quit smoking as soon as you start the program, I hear they will take 10% off, sometimes even more.

What a fantastic weekend!! I got to work Saturday, so I get a full week's pay. Sunday I stayed home and sit on my butt all day. Slept almost 12 hours and needed every bit of it. Today I went to a cookout at my daughter's house, got to see my son, and most of the grandkids. Even got some of my house cleaned and a LOT of reading done (for me anyway) this weekend. Added bonus - haven't been in too much pain this weekend. Truly grateful!

message 833: by Rick (new)

Rick Shepard That is an awesome weekend Cindy. Sounds like you finally caught a break! It has to happen once in a while:)

Evans Light (evanslight) My used bookstore addiction, episode #738, titled:
"BAM! Now that's what I'm talking about."

Off to tackle the TBR list, which mean finishing up SWAN SONG, then WHAT HIDES WITHIN, then these two beauties just jumped way up on that list.

Have a great night everybody!

Sorry I've been MIA the last two days folks. Have a great friend who is in the hospital. Her kidneys are not working and she has a nasty spot on her leg (she is diabetic). Haven't been home all day and I really need to unwind. Gonna attempt to read for about an hour and then I will be toast. Plan on going to my fantasy land in my dreams tonight for a great escape. Hope everyone is doing OK.

message 837: by Addy (new)

Addy | 379 comments I've been busy with my son starting preschool and adjusting to a new schedule. But I've managed to keep up with 3, possibly 4 buddy reads and 2 group reads. Its alot to juggle, but extremely fun:)

I've never read any KETCHUM, though I've read a lot of McCammon. Not a big fan of his short stories--or short stories at all really, though I will read them occasional . I did really liked the story BLUE WORD itself, though.

Well, I am officially jealous. I've had my eye out for Peaceable Kingdom for months and haven't seen it anywhere. Great find, bro!

message 841: by Evans (new)

Evans Light (evanslight) Back to school is definitely taking its toll. Glad this was a four day week.
With mom out of town for the night, I'm in charge of cooking, cleaning, homework, lunch packing and all the other things I'm supposed to do but have forgotten about. Just played a little bit of the new Rayman Legends on Xbox360 with the kids, now they're in bed reading and I'm going to make a stab at finishing my next short story tonight

Well, I have made a bit of progress the last couple of days. Finished Saint and making some progress with Devil's Knot: The True Story of the West Memphis Three. Been banging my head against the wall trying to get back into school. I only have one class left to get my M.B.A. and it is a joke the hoops I'm having to jump through. Have some things to take care of tonight but I don't work until 12:30 p.m. tomorrow so I plan to get some reading in later tonight.

message 844: by Lina (new)

I am about to open up the files, make the corrections, and publish the final draft for purchase before Monday. I am still pretty sore from the surgery I had on Thursday, but my mom is okay now, and with the end of all that stress I am ready to be productive again.
