GeneralTHC Sleepy today. Trying to stay awake--I'd like to finish my book.

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments I had a crazy day at work. Leaving never felt so good. Tomorrow is day 6 and then I am off Sunday. Some friends are taking my daughter and me to the Jaguars' scrimmage game tomorrow evening. I am so stoked. I opted to mow and weed my lawn tonight over writing so I can dedicate all day Sunday to working on my latest project. I hope everyone is having a fantastic Friday!

Enjoying a leisurely Sat morning with hub and puppy. Drinking some excellent coffee. I was up till 2am reading and the puppy woke me up at 5am. Grrr!! Overcast and gray, it rained all night. Have a great day everyone!

Lina (booksnotlovers) Chilling on the bed with my wounded cat, reading a book and generally having a very slack day.

message 506: by [deleted user] (new)

I am doing some reading for an hour or so then plan on hitting the hot tub. Just a leisure-filled weekend planned.

message 507: by Rick (new)

Rick Shepard Have to finish shopping for birthdays today. There are a dozen family members or so who get together, and they decided it's a good idea to celebrate all the birthdays at once. My thought was giving them each copies of books from this site and including a note on their cards about the group, but they're not all readers, so I'm off in search of gifts.

Brenda Seaberg (cricketseaberg) | 241 comments Trying to get a few chapters out for an author I'm beta reading for. Then we have a party at a restaurant at 3, which could be anywhere from 50-70 people (or more), from as far as 4 hours away - then an after-party at our house, along with Decatur Celebration (the largest free street festival in the state). Life never slows down! Some of them will probably hang around until after midnight!

I think he's just been in a fight. It's not bad though, just a small wound on his tail. He'll be alright :)

Chuck, I have a 13 month-old collie who is cute, frisky, and brings me much joy.

message 514: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 40 comments I'm having a great Saturday. I took the pooch for a long walk this morning, read for a little bit, walked to the library with my boys, then the park, and stopped for ice cream on the way home. Now off to do some more reading before dinner while the littles are sitting outside enjoying their ice cream :)

message 518: by [deleted user] (new)

Almost 11:30 and I've been reading for a while now. Think I'm gonna get a bit of sleep. Having a fantastic time at the hotel. Hot tub, reading, even watched a little of the boob tube. We REALLY needed this.

Addy | 379 comments Had a weird, unproductive day:( Need to get back on track!

message 520: by Rick (new)

Rick Shepard It's after 1:30am now. Just finished World War Zzzzz a little bit ago. Tomorrow I have family birthdays, but I have Monday off, so I'm looking forward to good starts on A Conspiracy of Paper and A Short History of the World in 6 Glasses. BTW I watched The Bay, Friday night. Very eerie documentary style movie. Definitely recommend it.

Had a nice little break from the busy life by taking a two day "vacation" with Jeff. Caught up on some badly needed sleep at the hotel and enjoyed some time in the hot tub. Got some reading done, but mainly just took the time to slow down a bit. Back to work tomorrow, but I plan to read for a couple of hours tonight before going to bed.

It sounds as if you got some much needed R&R, Cindy. I'm glad for you. I hope you've been feeling better. I worked six days last week and made the best of today. My wife was sick and hurling up her cookies this morning, so she stayed in bed all day. Emily (my 10 year old) and I nursed her throughout the day and I managed to throw down on some laundry, cooking, cleaning and such. So it was a pretty low key kind of day. I did manage to squeeze in some reading and now I am going to attempt to write an intro for my short story collection. This is proving to be the most challenging part of the whole project. I sit down and start to think of interesting things to say and draw blanks. I was wondering if you had a chance to start on Swan Song yet. Or are you still finishing up on other reads?

message 524: by [deleted user] (new)

I just finished Chapter 1 Adam and must say that I am totally sucked in already. Scary shit for real. Sorry to hear your wife is sick, but you and the daughter obviously came through to help out. Hope she feels better tomorrow.

message 525: by [deleted user] (new)

Going to bed. 5:30 a.m. comes early. Back to the grindstone. If I ever win the powerball, maybe I'll just buy a secluded cabin with a hot tub, pool, and lots of books with a library. Maybe I'll become a recluse of sorts. I'd still be on the net, but I could do with lots more reading time.

Thanks, Cindy. It is some damned scary shit. Going to bed, all. Early morning ahead. I have to be up and at 'em in about 4 hours. Good night all!

message 527: by Addy (new)

Addy | 379 comments I feel you Cindy. I wouldn't mind joining you there in your cabin:)

Woke up at 500am this morning cuz of another pestering stomach ache. It didn't go away until 2 hours later, so watching Breaking Bad distracted me for a time. I'm soo tired. Feeling better though and caught up a little on some reading:)

message 528: by [deleted user] (new)

Just got home from work and managed to accomplish my goal of reading a little bit in all four books I took to work with me today. Now it's time to get serious for a couple of hours or so.

message 529: by Lina (new)

Lina (booksnotlovers) I cleaned out my closet, and managed to find about two big bags of clothes I don't use. The Salvation Army is going to be happy when I show up with all those clothes. (and I was happy I found room for more clothes)

Rick Shepard Cindy wrote: "Just got home from work and managed to accomplish my goal of reading a little bit in all four books I took to work with me today. Now it's time to get serious for a couple of hours or so."

I don't know how you and Chuck do it! I'm trying to juggle two books for the month, along with whatever life brings, and I'm finding that tricky. It is amazing that you are able to juggle so many books and remember what you've read!! Although, that may actually be indicative of how bad my memory is. It was never the best, but back when I hit 50 it was like someone hit a switch:)

message 531: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't really have trouble switching my train of thought from one book to the other Rick. It's just that I am slow and don't have the time. Frustrating because there are so many I really WANT to read.

message 532: by GeneralTHC (new)

GeneralTHC Memory is not a problem at all for me. Changing tracks is where I have the most trouble, I think. I'm really not in control of it at all. I have to read whatever I feel like reading at the time, which can change abruptly without a moment's notice. For instance, today I'm hoping to finish the last 200 pages of THE TERROR and then read some of THE DEVIL'S KNOT, and I swear I'm going to get back to ULYSSES--I know I keep saying that, lol. But heck I never really can be certain. I truly intend to do that at this point, but heck I could end up knocking out a thriller or a horror book before the day's out, lol. I just never know. It can be pretty helter-skelter this way, but it all works out in the end somehow.

message 533: by Addy (new)

Addy | 379 comments Reading Swan Song before The Dome comes on.

message 534: by Rick (new)

Rick Shepard Chuck, that was me with Ulysses. I kept meaning to get back to it, but something always came up:) I finished it on principle rather than pleasure, but was surprised to find towards the end things kind of took a turn I hadn't expected. Quite a surprise.

message 535: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments Was going to watch Under The Dome but my wife is still sick and went to bed early, so I will catch it tomorrow, which happens to be my day off. Oh, how I need that reprieve from my job. I read the second half of Dweller by Jeff Strand after work today and really had a blast with it. Now I am staring off into space, wondering if I should read some of Swan Song, get back to writing my first full length work Hoarding House, or just veg out here on the couch in a dazed stupor. Decisions, decisions...

Courtney | 40 comments Waiting for caffeine to kick in after THE WORST night of sleep ever. I also seem to be coming down with a cold :/ Here's hoping work goes by quickly, and my boss doesn't expect me to use my brain today (-_-)

message 538: by Rick (new)

Rick Shepard Wow, are we experiencing a viral bug in this group? It's 5:45am, I've been up for about an hour, and got almost no sleep last night, plus I can feel that pre-cold feeling coming on. You and I are coming down with something, Cindy's not feeling well, Adam's wife's been sick...very Rod Serlingish.

message 539: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments Maybe we should do a group read of The Stand.

message 540: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Seaberg (cricketseaberg) | 241 comments Hey, for those of you in pre-cold mode, get Zicam - I get mine from WalMart or Walgreens (which we seem to have on every other corner in this town)!!! That stuff works well! It'll either prevent you from getting the cold, or it'll lessen your symptoms and shorten the duration tremendously!

message 541: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments Thanks for the tip, Brenda.

It's incredible the amount of stuff we accumulate, isn't it? I don't have much closet space so I try to do this at least twice a year, and each time I end up with bags of stuff.

I'm just so shocked that I have so much clothes I don't use. I feel like I use most of my stuff, but then I just... find so much clothes I never use.

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments I just hope it isn't Captain Trips! On that note, my honey and I just caught up on Under The Dome and really enjoy where it is going. I like that I get to experience the story with surprising new twists. Just my opinion, but if it were just like the book, I don't think I would be having this much fun with it. Now feel free to stone me to death!

message 548: by [deleted user] (new)

Well I WAS planning on staying home tonight and reading. It can still happen, but I won't have as much time. Wanted to start reading around 5 or so, but got some phone calls and the daughter stopped by. I really can't complain about that one. I love my family and it was cool seeing the grandbaby. Reading mode now.

message 549: by Dennis (new)

Dennis | 24 comments I've been on the road with work the last three days. My house is quiet. I'm going to pour myself a nice cold adult beverage and read. Hopefully i get an hour or two in before my eyes get too tired.

message 550: by Addy (new)

Addy | 379 comments I've been reading 5 different books today. By the time I got to Swan Song I was falling asleep. So only read 2 chapters of that one. Nite all:) I'm calling it quits.
