Judah Freed (judahfreed) | 14 comments I want and need your wisdom on the title for my new book. I recently completed a total rewrite and massive restructuring of my book, GLOBAL SENSE. I am planning to release it this fall. To get advance trade reviews (Kirkus, Publisher's Weekly, Foreword, etc.), I need to modify the title enough for the book to be treated as brand new.

Toward this end, I want your feedback.

The one caveat is that I need to keep the phrase "global sense" within the new title. Beyond the time and effort I've spent branding the phrase, one of the goals always has been to add that phrase to the popular lexicon, which has at last begun to happen with people in conversations saying this or that thing "makes global sense," so I do not wish to drop this phrase just as it's finally catching on.

All that said, below is a list of the new titles I've brainstormed so far, listed in the order they arose. I have my favorites, but I will not spoil your objectivity by telling them to you now.

Please scan through this list and let me know if any pop out as the most compelling. If you come up with a better title not on the list, please sing out.

To get a look at the most recent edition (late 2011), please visit my website at http://globalsense.com/

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) Good gosh. That's a list. Without spending a lot of time figuring out exactly what it's about, it's hard to say, but simply "Make Global Sense" appeals to me the most if you can't just stick with "Global Sense" itself.

L.F. Falconer | 32 comments Indeed, that is quite a list. Personally, I kind of like Common Global Sense, playing on the classic Common Sense.

Jerry Ash | 40 comments Geez, Judah. I can't believe I even scanned all those titles. Now I'm suggesting one not on the list: Global Sensemaking. I like short titles and the word Sensemaking or Sense-making is popular these days in the knowledge management field.

Just thinkin'.

Michael Henderson (michael_henderson) | 19 comments I'd help, but I don't understand any of the titles. I don't mean to make a joke, but "Global Sense," and any of its derivatives, makes no sense to me. In other words, they are all bad. They give no idea what the book is about.

As recommended in the initial posting, to grasp the core concept behind the term "global sense," please visit the website of the previous edition: http://globalsense.com

Please note that almost nobody had ever heard the term "tipping point" until Malcolm Gladwell's book, and now the phrase is common parlance.

The "sense-making" process is described with some detail in the book to explain how we make global sense of the whole world, that is, how we develop a global sensibility. The term's connection with business management, however, may mislead readers into thinking this is a business book, which it is not (although I do advocate "natural capitalism" as well as "conscious commerce").

Jerry Ash | 40 comments I get it now.

Soumya V. (SoumyaVilekar) | 8 comments I prefer "THE GLOBAL SENSE EVOLUTION" for any such change or step towards the change would be a giant step in terms of evolution.A more positive approach to embrace the sense globally.

Judah Freed (judahfreed) | 14 comments And we have a winner! (thanks to all of you....)

My wife and I have chosen "The Dawn of Global Sense: Awakening Humanity to Save Our World in the 2st Century"

We chose this one chiefly because it "tells the story" of the book best, and because it conveys that the book itself tells a story, that ideas in the book build like a story.

At this point, the main question is whether on not to keep within the subtitle the prepositional phrase, "in the 21st century." We see pros and cons with and without. Your feedback would be most welcome on this last point.

Here is a fast draft of the cover with the new title: http://globalsense.com/about-global-s...

What do you think?

5. Global Sense Evolution

8. Global Sense and Sensibility

Good job. Much better. Sounds professional, too. I shouldn't have to go to a website to read what a title means. "The Tipping Point" means something in and of itself, even if you don't know what he's saying in the book. Your original title was meaningless. You improved it greatly.

message 14: by Joan (new)

Joan | 11 comments None give me a hint what what global sense means, so I would tend to pass rather than hunt for meaning. Also, nothing tells why you did the big rewrite and what this new edition offers that the last one didn't.

message 15: by Judah (last edited Jun 24, 2013 02:49PM) (new)

Judah Freed (judahfreed) | 14 comments The book mainly is for those who already consider themselves "global thinkers," and the meaning of the phrase in almost every case "makes global sense" to them, I've learned over the years. I have been told that my book brings context and deeper meaning to the now-trite catchphrase of "thinking globally and acting locally." As for "tipping point, the phrase came from Alvin Toffler and was unknown until it was introduced in his book 1970s book, Future Shock, which actually was yet another meaningless phrase that combined two familiar words in a new way.

The rewrite and massive restructuring was done in response to readers' feedback that they loved the ideas but found the book slow going. Now the ideas flow one into the other in a more readable and compelling way, building logically and inexorably toward a climax like a good novel.

The website for existing edition: http://globalsense.com.

I'm wide open to suggestions for improving the subtitle that now begins "Awakening humanity to...."

Judah Freed (judahfreed) | 14 comments Title decided. Now tweaking the subtitle. Sticking with the opening words "Awakening Humanity" since that ties in with the "Dawn" theme.

Judah Freed (judahfreed) | 14 comments Last night, while flying eastward at 39,000 feet above the earth, my wife and I did some brainstorming on subtitles. Here are the best options we developed:

Making sense of the new global awakening

Making sense of the global awakening

Making sense of the awakening into global consciousness

Making sense of humanity's global awakening

Making sense of the awakening into global awareness

Seems like these finally are moving in the right directions as subtitles for THE DAWN OF GLOBAL SENSE. Our goal is to help readers grasp the meaning of the phrase, "global sense" at the same time as conveying the core concept of the book.

Feedback?

Judah
