Blast from the past! I was always a huge fan of Book-It....what a fun suggestion. :)

Read an author with the same first name as yourself.
Read a book about a place your going on holiday to.
Listen to an audio or read a book your child suggests in their holidays.
If your birthdays are June/July or August, then read an author who shares your birthday (month and day).
August is when football starts in the UK, so read about a famous footballer thats been in the news.

School gets out in June and starts back in August so read a book about school or with school or school related words in the title.
Sports Day is in August...read a book about sports or with sports words in the title.
Start a new series or read the next book in a series you already have started.
Read a book with death related words in the title. Like grave, death, dead, etc. Why? Because I have a couple of books I want to read that have those words in the title. LOL

Wow, that's great! I think for a while Pizza Hut discontinued the program, but if it's back in action that's wonderful.

But Book-It really is an excellent reading program. I LIVED for it when I was a kid. And even my sister, who wasn't a reader (and still isn't), was always anxious to participate. People love free food, no matter how old or young they are. :)

Read a play
Read a baseball book (my brother writes the best ones!!!)
Read a YA to a child.
Read three books by the same mystery or suspense writer. (This would help me finish the Reacher series or more Burke or Evanovich)

I LOVE this one! I do it all the time, even though we all know we're not supposed to.... when discovering new authors, though, aesthetics and presentation count!

This would be a great challenge task since 80% of the books i buy are primarily based on their covers! I can not wait until the summer challenge starts. There have been so many great ideas!

Read two books that tell the same story, but from different viewpoints, (Gone With the Wind/The Wind Done Gone [I think that's the right title:]) or the same story set in different time periods (King Lear/A Thousand Acres). Possibly two retellings of a famous story such as a fairy tale.

June is National Fruit and Vegetable Month - read a book that has a fruit or vegetable somewhere in the book
June is National Rose Month - read a book with something to do with roses in the title (rose, petal, thorn, bud, rosebud, trellis)

Aesop's birthday is in June - read a book of fables or fairytales

A-Z challenge: Read a book that has words in the title & an author name that starts with paired letters of the alphabet (AZ, BY, CX, DW to MN). For example:
Zorro by Isabel Allende
Bread Givers by Anzia Yezierska
Divine Secrets... by Rebecca Wells
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time by Mark Haddon

Summer Lovin' - read a book about summer romance
summer is the time for vacations so read a travel book o..."
Jennifer, I love the reading to kids idea. I am actually making up a reading challenge for my kids. So this is a great one.

Summer's known for its dog days - read a book about dogs or featuring a dog as a main character.
June 6th is the anniversary of D-Day - read a book that takes places during World War II.
Listen to an audiobook that's read by the author.
Summer always makes me want to get outdoors - read a book about the outdoors and/or adventure, OR read a book of your choice while outdoors.

Read a task from a any previous seasonal challenge that you didn't complete before...you can only claim the points the original task was worth. For those who completed all the tasks from the previous challenges then you can revisit a favorite task.
Oi, I hope this makes sense. It does in my mind, just not as I'm typing. Yep, really needing 6 months of summer

Oi! This made perfect sense (and I like the suggestion, too).

Mixed Media: Read a book reviewed in a magazine/TV show/on the radio.

Thanks Elizabeth!
P.S. How's your recovery going from the (knee?) surgery?

There's a penpal program I'm part of that you read books along with school kids and then email them to discuss the book. It's a little longer committment then the challenges normally are, but still doesn't take too much time. Maybe this could be a bonus - volunteer to read to kids, join a penpal program, etc. just something to promote literacy to kids.

Try The Drowned World by JG Ballard, who just passed away. The book is about the after-effects of the polar ice caps melting. It's credited with being one of the first novels to address global warming. It's sci-fi, but it's awfully good. It's good incentive to reduce your carbon footprint.

Gay Pride- Book with a gay positive protagonist.
(As opposed to Ellen's autobiography!)
Read a book from a friends "to read" shelf.

I haven't read all the posts in this thread but here are some my boyfriend and I came up with:
Read an author who writes children's and adult books, and read one of each.
Read a book by someone in a political office (fiction or nonfiction).
Read a travel book of somewhere you want to go.
Read a book you started but never finished.

Wait a minute, how does that work? Must be a very specific show you're thinking of, haha.

Choose somone on TNBBC who has to choose a book for you and of which you write a review.
Read a book of which the title starts with your family name(not the one you got by marriage for instance).
Read a book that was published in its original language in the month and year you were born. The book can be read in any anguage you want to.
Read a book about a place, city, museum,.....tha you visit.
read an auto-/ biography about an actor/actress, singer....and watch a movie in witch the person plays or even a theater play, or listen to a complete cd...and hen tell us what you thought about what you had read and watched/listened to.
